Detailed Reviews
Spent a week in Hopkins Belize. People there are wonderful! Very friendly and hospital. We honestly felt so welcomed. You didn’t pass a soul without a “hello”, “good morning”, “beautiful day”.
Dorothy and Jabbar were our hosts at Lebeha Cabanas. You just can’t ask for someone to go over and above more than they do. Right from the start of planning, Dorothy was so helpful with all our newbie questions. She never lost patience with us, giving us many helpful tips along the way. There were a few problems with the water during our stay but nothing that would stop me from visiting again. The large deck facing the sea made up for any kind of bump in the road that we encountered.
No A/C, no problem. The breeze you get from the water kept things at the perfect temperature. The beach area is kept clean and raked regularly. We had 2 cabanas rented between 4 friends. All of us had comfortable beds, including the futon in Del Playa, Grocery stores, fantastic restaurants and bars within a close walking distance. Our new friend Barry the guard dog took good care of us during our stay.
The only thing that we would have changed would be that we should have rented both the larger cabanas, as they are side by side. We didn't need that much space, but our shenanigans did disturb our neighbors. Just having too much fun!

I loved this experience! Kenima and her brother were wonderful hosts. I went there to cook a traditional dish, hudut, drank from a fresh coconut, and wore traditional garb. I learned so much about the Garifuna culture from her. Jabbar was great and taught us traditional drumming! I thoroughly enjoyed my time there and they got to know us and didn't rush our experience. I would love to go back and cook another dish!

Drumming the seven Garifuna rhythms at the Lebeha Drumming Centre was a real joy and a great learning experience. Not be missed by anybody who is interested in the Hopkins community, its Caribbean cultural routes and its musical tradition. This experience enriched our vacation so much.

We don't understand all the good reviews. If we could rate it 0, we would... Where shall we start? Yes it is located on a nice stretch of beach but do yourself a favor and skip this place. At first we thought this place has bedbugs but then we realized that the mosquito screens are just a decoy, full of holes and not properly attached to the windows. One night one actually completely fell off the window and onto my head. We were completely covered with bites from head to toe. Also, the wifi at the cabins doesn't work and we had to beg to get the password for the wifi at the drumming center. Since the location is quite off and there is no public phone we also found ourselves begging to use Dorothy's mobile and though we even offered to pay for the call we didn't get her help. There was no dishwashing liquid nor sponge and we had to ask for that too. You might also not wanna rent a crappy, overpriced bicycle that has no brakes from her.

I specifically came to Hopkins to learn about Garifuna drumming and had heard great things about the Lebeha centre and drumming teacher Jabbar. However from the moment I met Jabbar he appeared hugely disinterested in teaching travellers. During the one lesson I had he spent the whole time looking at his watch. I was expecting a lot more passion and enthusiasm for drumming and Garifuna music, especially as he had such great reviews. It was extremely disappointing. I was intending to stay for a few weeks but was done after one hour.

by sheer luck we stumbled onto this hidden treasure. If you are looking for a 5 star resort well go somewhere else. This is a bare bones site....cabins are clean - lots of hot water and the owner "Dorothy" is a super host. You are only a walk away from excellent local dining. The cabins are very similar to the old style cottages in Canada - yes they are secure and clean - besides who visits this country to live inside. Yes you are on the beach so yes you will drag some sand into your abode - that's what the broom is for - for 50 bucks a night don't expect to be waited on hand and foot. For the back country traveller this is a hidden gem!!!! Thanks Dorothy you are the best.

If you are not into diving and want to learn more about the culture of Hopkins then find the Lebeha Drum centre, take a drum lesson with Warren and get the scoop on where the Garifuna Drummers will be playing during your stay! The drummers are incredibly friendly and love to share The Garifuna Culture especially during Garifuna Settlement Days in November - The drummers are truly the heartbeat of Hopkins! We went last November and are looking forward to our return visit this November!

Lebeha was a dream come true for us, family travelers who truly appreciate autonomy and quality experience over touristy glitz. To wake up each morning on the beach in our beautiful and well kept cabana was a dream! Then take a few classes at the drum school and ride bikes to local spots. I will definitely be back to Lebeha the experience is highly recommended!

We stayed at Lebeha for our first week in feb 2015 and we had an AWESOME time. We found the quiet town to be relaxing. Of course, we always found stuff to do when we wanted and the people there were among the friendliest people we met in belize.
Make sure you stop by tina's kitchen for some great authentic food (walking distance from lebeha)
Thanks to dorothy and jabar for the wonderful experience and we will definitely be back.
Check out my film i put together of our trip - https://youtu.be/pE0fwANpCWU

Quiet, beach-front cabana with a view of the sea. Unfortunately it was stormy (which we expected, given that it was late July) and we couldn't swim as much as we would have liked. The drumming was wonderful and we went back for a private session the next day. Keeping Garifuna culture alive into the 21st century will be a wonderful legacy for this little place.
