About
Magic Mountain Lodge is surrounded by the Lyngen Alps and has a great view of the Lyngenfjord. On request we serve breakfast and home-made dinners. The lodge is family-run by (former) travellers.
During winter you can book activities like northern light-tour, dog-sledding, ice-climbing and cross-country skiing, rent some of (5) pairs of snowshoes. Price-level is about half compared to most tours in Tromsø. You can cancel everything for free and we can also cancel if conditions doesn't fit the activity.
During the summer you can find great hiking nearby and spot some of the highest and most beautiful mountains in Northern Norway. We also have bicycles for rent.
In addition to 15 en-suite single- and double rooms we have a dormatory for 6 persons. There is also a chill zone with huge TV where guests can relax on the couches and also a table-tennis room.

Good parking, but might get tight on crowded days.
The rooms are spacious, the beds nice and bathroom is downright acceptable (although I worry about the long-term ramifications of showers that are directly on the wall).
The breakfast is worth the money, and there are also kitchen-facilities available should you want to cook for yourself.
The walls are thin so you'll hear anyone bumbling about the hall in the night.
Most importantly the people are nice and friendly. It is a good starting point for numerous hikes and bike-rides (you can rent mountain bikes at the lodge). And as an added bonus the view is breathtaking.
This is perfect base camp for your activities, there are also tools and things you can borrow or lease.
Thank you for wonderful stay!
Would like to visit in winter and see the white mountains.
The lodge is very well sign posted when you arrive in Lyngseidet but the signs were all covered with snow when we arrived so it was a bit of a race to the hotel as the Northern Lights started as we got off the bus at 6pm! The hotel is on a small hill but a very easy walk for anybody but be careful in winter as it is slippery.
We stayed a total of 6 nights at the lodge in a very spacious double room with a private bathroom and a gorgeous view of the Fjord. The room was lovely and warm and you have control over the thermostat in the room so you can turn it up or down. There is a television with some popular English channels like MTV and BBC if you fancied a lazy relaxing day or waiting for the Aurora in the evening. The room was very clean and the bed was very comfy! The rooms are priced very reasonably and we even got a bit of discount for staying the whole week. Norway is very expensive and this lodge has very competitive prices and is cheaper than Tromso! Rooms range from £30 for a dorm room (Also very nice!) to £80 for a double room, all with private bathrooms.
The lodge is run by Patrik and Henrika who are very active skiers and cyclists. They really are wonderful hosts and will do anything to make your stay perfect and tell you to make yourselves at home. They have a beautiful little daughter called Majken who is always happy to see guests and will really light up your day and you have to appreciate this is their home as well as the lodge, which I think adds to the comfort of this wonderful place. The lodge itself is very cosy and modern with beautiful decorations around Christmas time and has everything you need to feel at home. There is a very cosy sitting area with sofas with books, DVD's and some games next to the dining area which is very spacious. By no means is this a luxury hotel, but I can assure you it is run incredibly well and has all the necessities for you to have a wonderful holiday. They also let us use the kicksled down the hill which was great fun! I'd never tried sledding before and you really do pick up some speed even if it is just a gentle slope.
There is a shared kitchen with everything you need to cook your own food like we did, and a supermarket at the bottom of the slope where you get off the bus. They offer a nice breakfast for 75 NOK extra and home cooked evening meals but you have to tell them the morning in advance so they can cook for you. The food looked amazing! One night was seafood tagliatelle, another was Swedish Meatballs and another guest ensured us the food was brilliant and very generous portion sizes. Henrika made some amazing traditional Norwegian waffles one day while we were sat on the sofa. She brought out a big tray of waffles, cloudberry jam ( A Must try if you're in Norway!), cream, chocolate spread, strawberry jam and brown cheese. A really nice treat and unexpected! So yummy !!
We came to stay here because Lyngseidet benefits slightly as having a drier climate than Tromso and it is away from the city lights completely. Myself and my Boyfriend are interested in photography and the Northern Lights after seeing them last year in Iceland, and this place really did not let us down. The Northern Lights were fantastic here, they were so active and we found it was cloudy in Tromso on the nights we saw them so it really was a lucky find!
There are plenty of things to do in and around Lyngseidet but maybe not as much in December due to the lack of light hours. The Lyngen Alps are some of the most wonderful places to Ski and hike and I recommend you take advantage of Patrik and Henrikas knowledge of the area and their skiing experience if you want to try this out! There are a few nice places to photograph around Lyngeseidet, the harbour is beautiful and there is a very picturesque church. There is a tour company based in Lyngseidet that offers pick up from Tromso and offers dog sledding, reindeer sledding, cross country skiing on the Lyngen Alps and much more. I'm sure you will get a discount if you are also staying in Lyngseidet as they don't have to come to Tromso to pick you up and drop you off. And of course the Northern Lights! (Not guaranteed of course but the weather is generally more favourable here than Tromso).
We feel this would be a great base for an active holiday in the Summer for hiking or from Early Feb-May when the Skiing season is in full swing.
Overall this place was definitely the highlight of our holiday and an amazing first impression of Arctic Norway! We will certainly be staying here if we visit Norway again. This is the perfect getaway from the city and offers a calming and relaxing scene. Or on the other hand, a great base for all of your activities like hiking, skiing, dog sledding ect! It is perfect for both scenarios.
I've included lots of pictures and if anyone has any questions about the lodge then feel free to message me :) You won't be disappointed if you stay here.
Thank you Henrika and Patrik for a wonderful stay! We are so happy we found you :)
Xanthe and Kyle.
Magic Mountain Lodge is situated about a 5-10 minutes walk from the bus station - be sure to grab some stuff from the supermarket before walking in! Whilst there are options to have breakfast and dinner at the lodge, the cooking facilities are adequate for self-cooking - in fact that seems to be what most people do.
Don't come here expecting lots of activities to cover; the pace of living here is more laidback. At first I was wondering why, but after doing half a day of snowshoeing (kindly provided by the lodge itself for free! But of course you do it yourself without a guide - just ask the people around where they'd recommend, and also bear in mind there are only 2 pairs to borrow), you'll really understand why it is so - the activities are so tiring for people who aren't used to it!
That being said, be sure to book your activities in advance. They are indeed cheaper at the lodge, but get booked up so quickly it is almost impossible to get anything if you decide to book it the day itself. That being said, the owners Patrick and Henrika are genuinely passionate - they will NOT conduct northern lights tour if it is expected to not have good lights that night, saving everyone of their precious time and money.
Moreover, the other staff there, Erik (I hope it's spelt right) and Patrick the cook are also very friendly and helpful. It was through their recommendations that I knew where to snowshoe, and have a very private northern lights sighting - simply walk down 10 minutes away from the city, find a quiet spot and wait for the lights to appear. It was really surreal sitting in the snow all by myself, reading my Kindle and looking up to see green lights formulating and dancing in the sky above.
Would totally recommend all to visit there for a personal and cosy northern hospitality!
Magic Mountain Lodge is located just outside of Lyngseidet town centre, probably less than 1km from the main junction, but very close to the ferry to Olderdalen. To get here from Tromsø, I recommend that you take the Breivikeidet-Svensby ferry unless you prefer hours of detour, which I didn't do but considering the beauty of this part of the world, why not?
This two storey large house has a ground floor that houses some of the dorms and a ski store and the second floor is where the reception, lounge/dining room, kitchen, laundry and en-suite room is located. During my lazy days, I spent hours hooked up to the wifi in the lounge researching locations to visit and doing some writing. Do so while going through the owner's epic europe-asia cycle trip.
This is a family-run place, and being so, the hosts are extremely friendly and helpful with tips. And anything that is within reason is probably do-able, which makes the place more personal than the establishment-run joints.
During my stay, the other guests were there to ski, and while I didn't do it myself, I was told that Lyngen was a great ski destination, minus the ski lifts but perhaps that means that there are plenty of virgin snow for those that prefers the more natural ski adventures.
During my stay I reserved a single room with en-suite bathroom, and I got a room for 3 and was charged only for 1 person. There's also a full board package where breakfast (which is always included) and dinner is included and you could also pack out lunch sandwich from the breakfast stock. The dinner was just perfect, and this place also employs professional cooks during the peak seasons for this reason - and I dont think I have anything to complain about it. I think I had too large chunk of salmon steak on my second night, and that's because it was too good to pass up. The food here is supposed to be local sourced, so it is an economical way to experience norwegian ingredients without stepping into one of those 5 star restaurants in Tromsø and spend an astronomical sum of money on food. I recommend that you include full board if you plan to be around the area for dinner around 6:30pm to 7pm.
The room is very clean and spacious with comfortable bedding and lots of space for luggage. There’s a common kitchen with the basic utensils/ kitchen table and just remember to clean up after you leave. The dining area is cozy and the owners allow you to bring your own food to the area.
Dinner can be arranged one day in advance.
The owner is helpful and helped us to check our routes/ roads during the winter online.
