Close to JFK, we booked this as the free shuttle meant it was worth it for saving us cab fare, as we had a 15 hour layover.
Unfortunately they had a staff shortage, and we had to wait 30 mins to be picked up (it wasn't terrible, but they advertise that wait times are short, as they usually have a mini van at the terminal already) Also we had to wait 20 mins past our departure time in the morning, as again they said they had driver shortage. So be aware if you need to be on time at the airport to allow for this.

The lobby was comfortable with complimentary hot drinks.

The rooms were spacious, with armchair, desk & chair, plenty of storage and a mini fridge. The beds were comfortable but we wanted extra pillows, however when we asked at around midnight, we were told housekeeping had left and we couldn't have any. I thought this was pretty poor, especially for a airport hotel, which people are arriving to at all hours, people on different time zones after international flights, i would expect housekeeping to be on 24hours.

Within walking distance were shops and restaurants, so it was convenient.

Overall it was good value with the free shuttle (also i believe free breakfast, but we left before it started) So I would stay again and recommend for short stays close to the airport.

Upon arriving for an overnight stay late Friday the gentleman at the front desk was not welcoming at all. He barely looked up and was more concerned with his personal phone. The rooms are very small TV monitors outdated and there was a musty smell but I was as equally surprised by the bed & pillows after a long travel this was welcoming. The toilet water pressure was an issue but I was checking out.

Five Towns Inn is close to the JFK airport and the free shuttle came within 15 minutes of the call, good!
The hotel is somewhat tired but the rooms are big enough, very clean and tidy. The first room's air conditioner was at the end of its usefull life, rattling and refusing to close. The room I got after the complaint was fine.
The complimentary breakfast was adequate, no more.
This hotel is ok for one night's stay, and this seems to be its mission.

I stay at Five Towns Inn frequently and they always go above and beyond. The staff of Franky, Johnny, and Greg always go above and beyond for me as they’re customer. The rooms are clean and great for a good night of solid sleep. There are plenty of food options nearby within walking distance and the surrounding area is safe. My company has put me up in other high priced chain hotels near JFK airport and the rooms aren’t as clean as Five Towns and there are people running up and down the halls making loud noises at all hours of the night. If you are worried the van to Five Towns, Ubers cost depending on the time of the day between 23-28$$ between JFK and five towns. I know there were some complaints but you will wait just as long for the other vans for the other big expensive chain hotels just to put things in perspective and that comes from first hand experience. Five Towns Inn is the right hotel for some quiet, safe, and solid sleep if you’re gonna spend time in the JFK Area. I can’t recommend Five Towns Inn enough, and I hope this review helps you in selecting Five Towns for your next stay in the JFK area. Cheers!

After sitting 13 hours in JFK on our way to Iceland, my friend and I swore we were NOT doing that again upon our return. I booked us into 5 Towns based primarily upon its proximity to the airport and that it offered a shuttle. We were pleasantly surprised to find a really comfortable and accommodating retreat. Upon learning that our flight was not leaving for the west coast until 4:30 p.m. the next day, the manager extended our check-out time to 1:00 p.m. Everything was spotless, the beds were extremely comfortable and the breakfast had a bit more variety than the usual hotel fare. This place is already in my contacts for future stops.

I'm honestly surprised by how many positive reviews this hotel has because frankly, it wasn't great.

First of all the spot is very remote, so it's important to really research the area before booking. For example, if you need to do anything in the New York City/Manhattan area then look elsewhere because there's no nearby subway station. There's only a bus stop which will take about 30 minutes to get to a train station. If you want to book a ride to the station or city through an app then it's going to cost you a lot depending on how long your stay will be. Other than that there's basically nothing in the area. There's a Burger King and Popeyes just steps away and a few small shopping centers, but nothing that you would go out of your way for. Basically, unless you're visiting family in the area or just there for a layover, this isn't a good location.

Also as a lot of users have mentioned, the staff were not friendly. Particularly the front desk clerk during the morning shift. The gentleman who worked the desk at night, however, seemed much nicer and more helpful.

The rooms are also small and musty. We were in a no-smoking room, but it smelled very humid even with the AC running. There was also no vent fan switch in the bathroom (the cause for the humid air?) and we didn't receive a "do not disturb" sign which resulted on our room getting skipped for house cleaning (the other side of the sign notes when you need room service).

And the "free breakfast" they offer is just cold food. If you want waffles, eggs, breakfast meat, etc. then you'll need to order it from a nearby restaurant. If you're fine with cold cereal, small pastries, bagels, and English muffins, then that's what you'll get first thing in the morning.

The small positives I will give is that even though this hotel is very close to JFK I never heard a single plane, so that was good. They also keep coffee and hot & cold water in the lobby all day which is convenient.

All in all, I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone planning a trip to the New York area.

Thank you for taking the time to review our property. I am sorry your experience with us fell short of your expectations. I will be sure to follow up with our maintenance team concerning the fan in your room as well as to speak with the morning shift about the level of customer service. Since this is a public forum I do think it is important to clarify to other readers some things in your review: Our hotel is ten minutes away from JFK but in Long Island, NY so a more accurate comparison is against other airport hotels not New York locations. We are one of two airport hotels with transportation that is in a safe area with food and shopping in walking distance.. While we are 30 minutes away from New York City via the Long Island Rail Road – we would never market our hotel as one in a city center. If you don’t want to pay to New York City prices the a $20 +/- round trip ticket on the train is a good value. We are a highly ranked hotel because of our value proposition to guests – we offer transportation to and from the airport, light fare in the morning, and clean and reasonably priced accommodations compared to the branded alternatives in the airport. If you are looking at our favorable reviews – and expect to walk into a full service Four Seasons Hotel – you will likely be disappointed.

This is the worst hotel on the planet. Everything was filthy. Breakfast was awful. The incompetent staff missed my wake up call caused me to almost miss my plane . Everything in the hotel was filthy including my room. Peeling wallpaper mold in the bathroom chipped paint everywhere floors carpet had holes in them. Was truly an awful hotel if I wasn't so exhausted I would have got up and left. Probably one of the worst hotels I've stayed at in the last decade. Avoid it all costs. By the way the hotel is actually 25 minutes from the airport and they only have an hourly shuttle. Shuttle is imperative because it's so far from anything. Breakfast was awful pure starch cheapest products you could possibly buy. The location for the street wasn't bad because there was a Burger King which was I was able to get breakfast at. There's also a shopping street about 200 m down the street that has a Marshalls. Everything about this hotel was terrible the TV was even filthy the carpets should have been changed 15 years ago. Avoid this hotel at all costs.

Response from Michael Morash, General Manager at Five Towns Inn - JFK Airport

Our entire staff has worked very hard to over the last two years, battling through labor and supply shortages as result of the global pandemic. If a housekeeper or maintenance overlooks something in a room and puts it back into service before it is ready - all we ask is for the opportunity to correct the issue by brining it to our attention. Our staff could have easily accommodated a room change in the time it took the guest to take multiple 10X zoomed pictures of every room imperfection she could find and post it on the web. To put this review in context - I am including links to a sampling 7ContinentGALS 240 prior reviews on Trip Advisor – which speak for themselves. This hotel has the smelliest hotel rooms in California. This is a Hyatt so where is the English speaking staff? I think this hotel is a rip off and a moldy dump. How did this dumpy hotel rank number one? Clean your bathrooms!! No fridge no coffee maker no TV terrible internet is the best description for this dump! The rooms in this hotel are filthy and the bedspreads look like they belong in a homeless shelter!! No AC,NO phone in room,no bars of soap in the room no way!! This hotel is in desperate need of a deep cleaning!!

We were told the shuttle would be 10 minutes & it turned out to be 75 minutes. The next morning before we left, I found a live bed bug on the corner of my bed and brought it to the front desk where they agreed that it was. A few days later, a manager named Michael called me. We had several calls where he assured me he was on my side and negotiating with their accounting department. Keep in mind, I was only asking for a room refund and replacement of my luggage which I refused to bring into my home. I shared with him that I probably only paid $100 total for both pieces. He provided me the pest control report which basically stated that the inspector sprayed and could not rule out that the bug shown to him was a bed bug bc they had crushed it! How convenient that it was crushed. He basically wanted me to feel guilty for costing the hotel to have the room sprayed, refunded only the base rate without the taxes I had paid, refused to replace my bags, and implied I may have carried it in from JFK. Overall it was already overpriced for a dingy room but we were in a pinch with a canceled flight. Then the bug experience...... It happens at hotels everywhere & I get that. HOW they handled it is where I have a problem.

I am sorry for the issues you experienced at our hotel We are an airport property and have a standard procedure in place for cleaning and sanitizing our rooms in between stays. As a matter of policy if we suspect a pest issue during the housekeeping process – we take the room out of service, along with the two adjacent rooms, for inspection by a licensed pest control specialist. • In this case – the guest stated she found ONE bug on the TOP of her bed on the day of check out. We immediately brought in a pest control specialist who cleared the room of any other pest issues meaning nothing else was found in the room. This inspection report was shared with the guest & I would be happy to share it with any potential guest with concerns after reading this review. • The hotel refunded the cost of the room as token of good will. I say good will because there was an extremely high probability the first and only bug entered the room along with the guest. The fact that there was one bug on top of the bed in plain view, during the day, suggests was brought into the room. The hotel spent $500.00 to treat the room, additional money to inspect the adjacent rooms, plus the cost of keeping these rooms out of service. This is the cost of doing business and maintaining a pest free facility. • Management felt New Luggage was excessive since housekeeping cleared the room prior to the stay and an exterminator could not find any evidence of anything afterwards. I explained the economics of the situation not to make the guest feel guilty or bad - but rather to show why we could not spend more money on this matter. • The guest also stated she was sensitive to the issue because she previously experienced an issue while travelling. Perhaps the two matters are related, perhaps she was unlucky enough to pick something up at the airport a second time. Regardless we feel we stepped up to the plate and handled this in a professional manner. -Michael

I’m not sure what I was expecting but I never get my hopes up with hotels. However, in actuality, I found the $135 room rate ($150 incl tax etc) very reasonable, since I was looking for somewhere cancelable, with a free shuttle to the airport (JFK) and breakfast included. The Five Towns fulfilled all my criteria.

I was also pleasantly surprised by how clean and modern the place was. The room wasn’t huge but plenty big enough for one person, the bed was comfy and the decor was nice (with a fridge for the couple of beers I brought with me - there is no bar). The staff were very friendly and helpful and the driver of the shuttle next morning was a really nice guy. We chatted throughout the journey to the airport. Breakfast was basic (bread, bagels, choice of cereal and tea/coffee) but I don’t think one could expect more for the price.

I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again if I have an early flight.

My flight from JFK was cancelled and Delta put me up in this hotel. I wasn't expecting too much, but this was a very nice and new, very clean, lovely place to stay. I left my IPad in the room and the Manager called me everyday until he made sure that I got it back and was happy. This hotel is very close to JFK and I would highly recomend it to any travelers in serach of a clean, very nice place to stay that is a very good value for the money. The continental breakfast is great to grab in the morning also.

I would take the Long Island rail road to Penn Station - which brings to you to 38th street. Have you booked your stay yet? Also most tickets into the city are considered off peak - which are cheaper than peak pricing. Finally make sure you buy the tickets before you get on the train. There is a ridiculous surcharge if you purchase on the train. Remember but round trip off peak. Regards Michael
