Pleasant venue where one has access to their own personal pier , allowing visitors to fish for free. No fish were caught this time but we feel we were too late or too early to fish this very clear water coral environment!

An OK place for backpackers and budget aware visitors. The rooms are extremely clean if basic (avoid half of those located on the ground floor- #4, 5 and 6- as you'll feel like you're overnighting in a prison cell) and the bathroom is in good conditions. Most of the staff, especially the housekeeping one, is very nice and helpful. There is a general lack of training however, whick can lead to many...misunderstandings when setting the bill upon check-out. Make sure to verify what is being billed to you on a regular basis... The restaurant area is actually quite pleasant but the food was... a catastrophy. None of the dishes served over our 4 day stay corresponded to the menu descriptions. As soon as more 4 guests shoed up for dinner, the whole thing turned into a complete chaos. An hour waiting time to get a simple salad seemed to be the norm... If the hospitality aspect of the hotel is moee or less under control, its Food & Beverage section is completely lost at sea. As a matter of fact, the whole place seems to be managed by ghosts...

On our walk into town from our cruise ship, we popped into the souvenir shop at Waterfront Lodge, as much for relief from the hot sun as anything. To our surprise, out the back was a lovely, open-air restaurant, right on the water. With cool breezes wafting over us, and a local band playing, we enjoyed excellent fish (mackerel), chips, and cool beers. The toilets were clean and the staff friendly and helpful, even standing out in the hot sun to hail us a taxi. And we did buy some nice wooden souvenirs which later passed through Customs without a problem.

Behind the Alotau Waterfront Lodge is a beautiful bar and restaurant, called the Hauswin Restaurant and Bar. The perfect place to sit and relax and enjoy the view across the bay. The staff are very friendly and the facilities very clean. We enjoyed cold beers and very flavoursome Tarot, Sweet Potato and Banana chips. There is a good menu of dishes with people making very good comments about the fish. The prices are very reasonable. The bar is located at the rear of the Alotau Waterfront Lodge, look for the Likalili Gift Shop and go through the building to the rear. You won't be disappointed.

It's a nice enough place to stay. Even though they said they would pick me up from the airport, they didn't. There were taxis outside but I managed to get a lift in with some kind people (and had a great conversation). They apologised but what can you do? They use a local driver, but he was busy or not notified, whatever. The rooms were basic but clean. There was a town wide blackout and the generator that was powering it all was outside my room. A polite request had me moved to the other side of the building and was much quieter. Don't expect the free wifi or internet to be in any way faster than snail pace. I measured the Lodge's wifi speed with speedtest to 0.1Mbps. I got a Digicell sim card and it was 3x faster. The text version of Facebook was free though. It's useful for something like WhatsApp, too slow for emails. The food at the restaurant was average and slow to come but I wasn't going anywhere and just kept reading my book. It's a pretty chilled out place and ok for the price.
