#2 of 4 Specialty lodging in Waitomo Caves
Our cottages are situated on the highest point of our 1666 acre family farm. Fantastic views of the mountains and central North Island . We have two self contained cottages. Each cottage has its own bathroom with walk in shower, toilet and wash basin. Each cottage is one room with a queen bed down and two single mattresses in a loft above the queen bed. There is a small kitchenette and table in each cottage. We are situated away from the hussell and bussell of the Village and are a great place to get some rest and respite from travelling. Best of all you have Waitomo's World famous Glowworms at your doorstep

We stayed 2 nights in this guest accommodation, which is made up of 2 identical cottages, each with a small kitchen, loft for additional guests, and an external full bathroom. The drive on the property up to the cottages is a few kilometers -- you're definitely out in the middle of nowhere, and it's so beautiful. And yet, you're just 15km from the town of Waitomo, and 15km in the other direction to some great natural features, the best of which is an enormous waterfall that's just a 10 minute walk from off-road parking. The owners, Rachel & Angus, were helpful and friendly. When I had questions about our next stop she brought me into her house to chat with one of her son's friends who happened to be from that town. They gave us good suggestions on places for dinner and which of them any cave tours would suit us. And right near the cottages is an area of with naturally occuring glow worms. We saw them in a cave tour earlier in the day, but we got to see them up close right on property was pretty neat. The only thing we'd change was for them to add screens to the windows. We wanted to keep them open at night for the breeze, but the bugs were a bit much. Lastly, it's one of the best views we've ever seen -- hands down. At all times of day it was gorgeous. We definitely recommend Te Tiro.

A stay at Te Tiro is an experience: hill-top views of the farm and limestone hills, fantastic starry sky and glow-worm grotto. The cottage had everything we needed and a comfortable bed. Caveat: no way to regulate temperature when it got hot (a fan would help), and the space is very tiny — keep self-catering simple!

Lovely place for a short getaway for our anniversary. Beautiful setting up on the hills in the countryside, surrounded by native trees that attracted a variety of birds including tuis, kereru and piwakawaka plus a great view over the valley that was such a pleasant sight to wake up to in the morning. Friendly hosts, the room was comfortably set up with a good range of breakfast food to choose from. Close by to Waitomo village for glow worm cave tours, plus a number of short bush walks within a short drive. We had a very relaxing stay.

So glad we stayed for two nights in the area! Angus' advice spot on - we caught the waterfalls looking spectacular & loved both short walks he suggested, as well as having heaps of time for a cave adventure. Glow Worm Grotto was a bonus & the cottage is well laid out for a small space for family time!! Thankyou to Angus & Rachel & we loved reading the property's history!!
