NUMBER OF ROOMS
We had an overnight stay at the hotel and after reading other reviews we werent expecting anything flash. The hotel was a step back in time; nothing has been modernised however it is charming. The staff (all 2 that we saw) were friendly, helpful and on hand when needed. The our room was dated with worn carpet and a shabby bathroom, that being said it was clean as were all areas of the hotel that we saw. The bed was comfortable with excellent pillows, all linen and towels were crisp white and clean. There was ample space, a small fridge and tea/coffee making supplies. The bathroom was well stocked with toiletries. We heard very little noise from other guests (the carpark was full) and apart from crickets chirpping it was nice and quiet. The location is good for accessing the local tourism options and its an easy stroll down to the village with a bar just at the bottom of the hill. The hotel was fun to explore with lots of stairs leading everywhich way and some grand paintings on display. The hotel could be amazing with alot of $$$ spent on it but as is it is a comfortable place to stay. We ate in the dining room for dinner; the food was home cooked style, nicely presented with good sized portions. Best test I suppose is would we stay at Waitomo Hotel again? Yes.…
This place is a slice of paradise and perfect to rest after a long day around the Waitomo area. The hotel is very clean, beautiful and the restaurant is quite cool. Also the staff are polite, profesional , very friendly and the de happy to talk about the place if you know how to ask. In this place you can travel back in time and that’s the real magic of the hotel along with the energy of the Waitomo area. I’m in love with this place and I be back in winter.
The main hotel is a little dated, but it has atmosphere. The rooms were comfortable and did have some newly appointed facilities. A short walk to the town down below, and a short walk to the Waitomo Caves.
A very old hotel that is showing its age, but is a wonderful place to stay. A great location, the rooms are very big (bathroom/toilet not so much). Carpet is worn as is the paintwork - but that does not deter from the character and ambience of the hotel. Would have liked to catch up with a ghost (hotel is supposedly haunted). Outdoor area by the bar/dinning room is great. Food was excellent. Beer, wine etc. excellent. Service was excellent - from start to finish. Massive bed - very comfortable. Amenities in the room were relatively basic but ok.
If you want your hotel to be spick and span, everything new and spotless then don't stay here If you want a bit of history to read up about and think how splendid it was in years gone by and wonder if it really is haunted then this is the place for you. Yes, it is a bit drab inside and you could trip on the carpet in the restaurant and it could do with a major uplift but it could then lose much of it's character. I had a single room with a double bed, chair, TV and large bathroom for not a lot of money. Family staying nearby in their motorhome joined me for dinner for which there was a good choice including childrens meals and a decent choice of wines all at reasonable prices.
