We stayed here so we would be right next door to the rafting place ready to go in the morning. It feels a bit neglected but has everything you need. Cosy sitting area, kitchen with everything to cook etc. The bedroom was fine, usual dorm beds. All in all, I'd recommend it if you're doing the rafting as a basic,... More

We got lucky and were the only guests in the entire place. Nice decent kitchen and dining area. It comes with three or four rooms and we got the double bed right at the end. If you are driving, there's a abundant of lots right in front of your hostel. I think the staff don't live there and you will... More

This place is fine. It sleeps ten, two rooms that each sleep four plus one double room. I was there with one of my sons and we got very lucky as we had the whole hostel to ourselves. The kitchen is well stocked and the lounge is comfortable with a large selection of dvds and a tv. The shower and... More

Traveled to Waitomo to do some caving and arrived at this hostel just as a place to sleep before traveling to Rotorua the next morning. After a cold afternoon/evening in the caves I arrived to a clean, warm bed with good bathroom facilities. The woman in the office was even kind enough to drive me to the bus stop the... More

We booked this place because we had a long drive in from Auckland and song drive out the next day after our glow worm tour out to rotorua. We weren't expecting much. It's a bed and bathroom w a kitchen and yard. Heated blankets. tv and laundry. Sure it's a bit dirty. But you get what you pay for.

We showed up in Otorohanga without any reservation, and since it was high season there was not much to choose from. The visitor center suggested this place, which has one double room, and two rooms with multiple beds for backpackers. We booked the double room. The staff was very nice and helpful, but the place was so dirty! There were... More

We originally hadn't heard of Kiwi Cave rafting, but after a bit of research we plumped for them, basically because it was the cheapest. Our room was heavily discounted when we stayed in their hostel, and it was thee cheapest price we had seen for abseiling, rock-climbing etc... (I think it was part of a deal). not really sure what... Clean, small, right next to the rafting office. Got there late and managed to find the key after a bit of confusion. It was pitch black and the security light only stayed on about 3 seconds...not easy when trying to enter a code in a box to retrieve the key! The most expensive hostel we stayed in in nz but... It's a good place for the night if you're doing the caving with them. They drove us into town the next day for the bus. There isn't much to actually do there though (it's out of the main town). Staff was very helpful and friendly. No one else was there, bit it was kinda nice to just relax.

This family owned and operated facility is priceless. From the moment I arrived to the moment I left something in the air made me feel like home. I received a larger room at no extra price and enjoyed the amenities. Nothing over the top but clean and well maintained. The hostel is unlike the hustle bustle of others and isn't... More
