Overdue review from a few months ago that I felt I needed to leave. We were looking for a warm retreat in the middle of freezing April and chose Holbox for its tropical and natural appeal. Well, we fell in love with the island and its people, but not so much with our hotel. The breakfast was barely anything, we were actually left hungry and ended up paying everyday, the restaurant overall was disappointing, and Im unsure why because we ate so well in the rest of the island, even in small little huts and food stands, the food was fantastic and rich in flavor. This is an eco hotel, but I think thats just an excuse for running things slowly and poorly.
We just returned from a relaxing and wonderful week at Isla Holbox. We stayed at Villas Delfines. I highly recommend this hotel for their friendly/helpful service (kudos to Ibrahim and Luis) and their bungalows (love the composting toilets and solar powered hot water). Cant beat it's location, It's located on a quiet and the most beautiful stretch of the beach. The Mantaray beach club is located next door where you can easily get fresh fish and drinks (the club respectfully close early so no worry about noise or music), and you can lie on their water hammocks. We enjoyed lunches and sunset cocktails at the club. We took taxis into town (40 pesos) and hotel will call taxis for you. We enjoyed walking to Punta Mosquito during low tide and eating at some excellent restaurants in town (just ask Ibrahim for where to eat). We were surprised by the great Italian food in town. Mosquitos were only an issue after sunset but mosquito repellent works great. Good breakfast at Villas Delfines. We did not eat at the hotel restaurant and we did not use the pool (too occupied by the beautiful beach). Enjoyed the beer selection at the hotel bar (esp. the local Pescadores IPAs). We will definitely stay at Villas Delfines again.…
Great room in front of a paradise beach. The staff is really nice. Special thank to Ibrahim who is very nice and helpful. The pool is big and a lot of iguanas live there, peacefully, enjoying sun. I recommend :-)
We stayed at Villas Delfines in one of their bungalows with a partial ocean view. Loved the shell showerhead. The bathroom takes some getting used to because you can’t flush it. You just use wood chips. There is a lot of recycling everything which is good for the island. The restaurant has good food and is not pricey. The location is perfect with a most amazing and large white powder sand beach. Absolutely beautiful! It’s about a 1km walk into town. Shout out to Abraham who was very helpful and accommodating.
I visited this gorgeous island 1 week ago. Villa Delfines is an incredible location. Exceptional view. Very quiet. All the staff was very friendly and helpful. All the confort in the rooms. I recommend it 100%!!!
If you want intimate, comfortable rustic, super eco, with fantastic food, a darling swimming pool, and a perfect beach—come to Villas Delfines. Wonderful service. Barefoot and swim trunks all the way.
I really loved Holbox Island. The location of Villas Defines is the best on the Island. It is located a little bit outside of town so it is quiet. The beach is out front of the hotel, with just a small road to cross, as there are really no cars on the island it is little more than a sandy road that bikes and golf carts use. The staff at the hotel were all wonderful. Abraham at the front desk was very helpful with arranging a golf car rental, transfers and general information. Our hotel room was a free standing bungalow. The bungalows are definitely on the rustic side. The hot water is heated by solar panels, we never had a problem with hot water. The toilets are composting, but more like a pit toilet. They are unconventional, but I appreciated they weren't using water or flushing waste into the ocean. Ours did not smell. Our room had two double beds. I really wanted a king size bed - or even a queen, but it seems the superior and oceanfront only have the two doubles. The beds were very uncomfortable - like sleeping on a box spring. I could even feel the springs! I loved the deck with chairs, a table and two hammocks. The biggest problems I had with the room was the swinging doors into the bathroom. They don't provide any privacy and I almost smashed my fingers in them. In the shower they had this conch shell shower head that did not work as they probably hoped. The water came out unevenly and splashed very close to the overhanging light. Get a real shower head! The room also had air conditioning. We didn't use it because we kept the windows open and used the fans. My last complaint is about the restaurant. It is a small enclosed space with mediocre food at best. Some outdoor seating would have been welcome. Overall I really like most of the things about this hotel. This is definitely not a luxury resort. But the location and the staff made up for any shortcomings.…
We enjoyed our stay very much. The night watch man. The older man that didn’t speak much English; was always there with flashlight in hand waiting to walk us back to our bungalow. Abraham was wonderful and heart warming. The iguanas were everywhere pretty cool. Beautiful place to be. We felt safe and secure. The breakfast that came with it was wonderful. Very nice and huge rooms. Would love to go back. Easy drive from the airport. Ferries run every half hour. Golf carts are only 15 dollars a day. Just ask the front desk they will help you in whatever you do.
Wonderful spot. Beautiful ocean-can relax in the shade, a bit out of town so quieter. You’ve got to love the rooms to love the place-composting toilets. I think they are just fine and the hot water is solar heated. Great hosts. Wonderful freshwater pool. Lovely screened in dining area. Just an all around good spot.
The hotel staff were amazing. The made the whole experience amazing. This was one of the best vacation we have ever had. The staff went out of their way to recommend and guide us during our stay. We plan on returning soon.
