For a long time owner, Sandra, wanted to write by the sea. She went in search of a remote world, quiet, where the blue was obvious. One day, she landed in Cancun and the attraction of the Mayan land was overwhelming. She took a small plane and flew over the island of Holbox.Nothing was more attractive to her than the Feast of the colors of nature, barefoot fishermen with their gold teeth, women weaving hammocks or sheathed with their heels in the sand. "I want to do something here, " she said and began to imagine in her head this project now called "the hotel with a human touch" on this very beach. The land of more than 150 species of birds, whale shark, or Damero world's largest fish, mangroves in each corner, all were an inspiration to this artist. Then she wanted to welcome friends from around the world and to express, through a hotel on the island of Holbox, a point of view on life: "peace and art are a great treasure for humans. " Because of this she thought of a place that is romantic, sexy, creative, where the personalized, warm, rustic atmosphere in a luxurious twenty rooms that look to the sea, where one could meet the privacy and whims of its guests. All done out of love and passion. The same place where one can dream and create, and in the best case, where one can rest. The joy of giving and expressing a new way of caring for guests, has been the commitment of the hotel. Every detail has a reason: from the small art gallery with paintings by renowned artists to the beautiful furniture that inhabit the halls.Feelings, emotions, poetry, touches of color, aromas of black coffee, hammocks, fabric on the balconies, fluffy sheets, the sea at every angle, and romantic evenings create the magic of the "place of your dreams."

We had been recommended this boutique hotel on Isla Holbox by our travel agent. We were fortunate that they had a cancellation and we therefore had the opportunity to stay ( in an otherwise full hotel).
The ferry crossing was prompt and lasts about 30 minutes.
We were escorted by our driver on the ferry and also to CasaSandra.
The welcome was slightly less than friendly by the young man on reception.
We were shown just next door to the reception to our room....
This was obviously, on the ground floor, with double doors and a large window overlooking the pool. Fortunately when outside, the shadows are such that you can’t see into the room.
The room itself was reasonably compact, nowhere near enough hanging space but a lovely, comfortable large bed.
The bathroom was fine, with a shower and plenty of shower gels, body lotion etc.
Housekeeping was very good, I returned one morning to find the maid actually ironing the white quilt cover!
Breakfast, taken outside each morning was lovely, always tasty items to eat and the offered coffee was acceptable.
The staff are very friendly and helpful (except the young man on reception).
We had dinner one evening in the restaurant, but it is very expensive and the wine particularly so.
We ate out the following evenings.
The cinema night ran as advised on the Friday evening, but no-one seemed to go.
The beach and beach club were delightful and we must have been lucky as there wasn’t any accumulation of seaweed whilst we were there.
The chairs on the beach and the available towels were good too.
Our main gripe, was that the head of our bed was up against the dividing wall with reception, so when the cleaning started before 7am the broom banging systematically against the wall woke us, then when the reception staff arrived soon after and they chatted, we could hear them. Not ideal at all.
Check out was efficient.
If you are a cat lover, there is a resident cat here, and she regularly left us ‘gifts’ at our door, natural but ugh...
The included yoga each morning was excellent with a friendly, professional yogi and was popular with both guests and other hotels guests, who paid a fee.
It is without doubt a lovely setting, just sad about the location of our room.

I'm wary to let Holbox visitors in on this boutique paradise where we stayed for three nights, left for another property and then returned. The staff is incredibly supportive, helpful and kind. I was at first upset about our room allocation but then realized what a win it was to be in such a large and renovated Room 5, which overlooks the communal dining and beach area as well as a slice of the ocean. Our family of two adults and two toddlers fit incredibly comfortably in the massive space. When we re-checked in later in the week we stayed in Room 11, which has yet to be renovated and was slightly smaller but still lovely, authentic and plenty of room for us (with a much safer for kids balcony). The only downside to the rooms is the seemingly nonstop blasting of music from Raices (luckily ends at 830) and other loud spots which felt counter to the otherwise quiet experience of the island. The food was fantastic and I am shocked at any negative reviews previously posted. We ate at over 16 different restaurants during our stay on the island and both Ser Esencia and Mojitos were some of our favorites. Breakfast, which is included, consisted of fresh fruit, breads, yogurt and granola (plus pancakes or eggs/omelet if you can even have room). We never had to wake up early to "grab a beach bed" like so many resorts and other hotels on the island. There was plenty of space to spread out, towels at the ready and drink menus plentiful starting at noon. Mojitos was the perfect spot for a barefoot lunch and I highly recommend the mixed ceviche and pork tacos. Prices were in line with other hotel beach restaurants and the vibe was relaxed (unlike some of the more clubby and loud music spots that line the beach). The staff here was so nice to our kids, and they loved watching Eric, the bartender, mix cocktails. We had dinner twice on property and while it is pricey for the island, the food was delicious, as were the cocktails. Our kids ran barefoot between the beach and the small pool all day, and everyone always said hello and asked if there was anything needed. Small touches like bottled water, snacks, in-room Nespresso, free sandals and our welcome drink are just a few of the things that made this stay superior to many others we have had in Mexico. Thank you to Leticia for everything (including arranging childcare!) and Martin for answering all of our questions. We hope to return!

Since we traveled during the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, we were looking for a small and quiet hotel to enjoy with our children (7-8 year old). We booked this hotel because it was walking distance to the beach (30 feet). The staff was so kind to set up a large room with two twin beds for our kids. Our king bed had a beautiful canopy for privacy. We enjoyed the nightly turndown service when they would change your towels and turn on the incense in your room.

We also wanted something that included breakfast as it is difficult to get ready and go find breakfast with little ones. Breakfast was filling, delicious and healthy. Many complain of the slow service, but you have to realize that this is island-time. This is not a Cancun resort that is created to cater to American or European fast life. The small kitchen needs time to build your meal.

We also really enjoyed the pool. It provided at nice change of scenery for the children to play while we read on the pool deck drinking.

We also really enjoyed using their bikes to move around the island and bike to Mosquito Island. Be aware that cars are not allowed in Holbox. You must walk, sue a bike or golf cart to get to places.

We will definitely be staying there again. If you are looking for an haute hippie experience just a few feet from the beach, then you will like this boutique hotel. This is not a resort. This is not Cancun. This is island life in its purest form.

If you like disco music with bongo drums you will like this place. Upon check in when I asked about the loud music I was told it was a party down the beach and because of the unusual wind it could be heard. In fact the music is a bar directly next door that plays music from breakfast to late night. You will not hear any waves. We were shocked that they lied.
They are money hungry. Your complimentary breakfast is better at a Hampton Inn and if you order a cappuccino they charge you $4.50 which is not a real cappuccino and made from coffee grounds.
I watched an employee chasing after a woman who was checking out because she hadn't paid her service charge from her complimentary breakfast.
The pool is not heated and small, some of the towels are thread barren.
A small bottle of water is $6.00.
No luxury bath items not even a face cloth.
The hair dryer doesn't work, nor the bath plug.
Stinking seaweed but I suspect they pump raw sewage into the ocean as you can't put toilet paper down the loo because of environmental reasons.
So much more to add but really don't stay here. There looks a nicer hotel at the end of the beach, hotel nubes or whatever cloud is in Spanish.

Response from casasandraholbox, Director General at Ser Casasandra

Dear Mrs White I was surprised to find this review published yesterday morning as I agreed with your husband to meet with you the very next morning. Nevertheless, I am glad you did, so I had the chance to comment in person on some points mentioned. I would not normally respond in such detail to a review but feel obliged to, given the nature of your review, so that the trip advisor community has clarity on the points you have raised: First of all I’d like to rectify your accuse that we pump sewage into the ocean. This is absolutely untrue and a defamation of our good practices and established procedures in the hotel. During our conversation I have personally asked you to correct this false claim immediately and you agreed to do so, unfortunately your review is still published unchanged! Disco music: There is a Beach bar west of Ser Casasandra that plays music and live Latin music during the day from 11am to 7h30pm. The winds come normally from east to west, which means that the sound is blown away from the hotel. Sometimes however we have a wind called “el norte” which brings cooler air to Holbox and as the name says, is coming from the north and the sound is blown towards the hotel and some can hear the music better. Nonetheless, we have many guests who enjoy to listen to their music and even walk over to their bar for a drink. However, I do fully understand that this is not everybody’s taste. The receptionist did not lie to you, I personally investigated after our conversation and yes, it results that they had an event that day and not their usual program. Breakfast: Sorry, I have never stayed in a Hampton Inn, therefore I cannot assess if their breakfast is better than ours. I still believe though, that we offer a very nice selection of different items for a complimentary breakfast. Coffee, tea, juice of the day is also included, specialty coffees or other juices can be ordered of the menu with prices clearly displayed. There is no service charge included on your complimentary breakfast bill, guests can tip but don’t have to. We offer different kinds of water in the Restaurant; bottle of Mineral water 600ml, bottle of Natural water 600ml and Perrier 330ml, all between 3.50 and 6 USD, which is a normal price in the whole Riviera Maya area. There is purified complimentary water right next to the entrance door of the restaurant for guests to enjoy and two big bottles of purified water in the rooms refilled on a daily basis. We don’t chase anyone nor are we money hungry! Swimming Pool: It is correct, our swimming pool is not heated. Most guests coming to the tropics wish to refresh from the hot sun. Our pool is 15 meters long. Bath items: The amenities we are offering are 100% organic and produced on the Yucatan Peninsula. We prefer to offer a local product rather than import a brand from the US or Europe. Guests love the products, sadly they did not fit your taste and expectations. Your comment on the face cloth however is something I will look into and possibly change. Thanks for this tip. If there is anything in a guest room that does not work, we are happy to exchange this item immediately, and so does every luxury hotel in the world. It confuses me that you haven’t mentioned to any staff that your hairdryer is not working. Of course housekeeping was sent to check on it immediately. Thank you for the opportunity to clarify a number of points for you and for the TripAdvisor community and I feel sorry that in general Holbox wasn’t the right choice for you. Best regards Jacqueline Aere General Manager

We paid $1800 pesos for 2 people for a day pass to the beach club. This hotel appeared to have the most comfortable luxury beach club on this stretch of beach. After paying for our day passes + food and beverage minimums, we were told we could not sit in any of the loungers in the first two rows as this was reserved for guests. But this rule was not enforced to everyone - other day pass holders with wristbands moved to the front beach chairs and nothing was said to them.

The service here is absolutely terrible. 2 servers for the entire beach club and restaurant. Anytime you wanted to order something, it took 20 + minutes to flag down your server and another 45 minutes to get whatever it was you ordered.

Everything was SO expensive, we ended up spending close to $3700 pesos for a beach club, lunch and drinks for 2 people and it ended up being a hassle anyway. Go to the Mystique Royalton if you're looking for a beach club for the day. They are much more welcoming, better at service all around and are WAY more cost effective.

While the hotel looked beautiful at first glance, the service definitely lacks luster.

Ser CasaSandra came to our rescue. After a poor experience at another hotel, we rented a day bed at Ser CasaSandra and told the staff our misfortune. They could not have been more accommodating and worked to have us settled into our new room immediately. First, their beach is beautiful, it has to be one of the best, if not the best beach areas for a hotel I have ever experienced. The service at the beach area as well as the food, drinks and view were just impeccable. That same level of service extended to the property itself, with a welcome drink and staff that could not be any more accommodating.

The facilities themselves were stunning. The grounds extremely well maintained, the design throughout was beautiful and the smart use of artwork really gave a sense of pure luxury throughout. The location is ideal, as its close enough to walk right into town and the staff provided great recommendations for dining. The complimentary breakfast was also far above expectation.

Although we only stayed for one night, we are certain to come back (really want to join the yoga class next time). Ser Casasandra really was our hotel in shining armor.

The hotel staff was friendly and ready to assist you in whatever you needed.
The place had free rental bikes in case you wanted to use them. Which I did to explore Holbox.
There wasn’t a lot of people staying in the hotel, in the island in general so it was peaceful for the most part.
The rooms had a nice set up and they had free water and some other beverages as well as a nice breakfast with a good cheese platter and fresh fruit.
In my opinion the bathroom needs remodeling. As well as the doorknob to enter the room, mine didn’t locked twice which in hindsight was dangerous, but most rooms where occupied with my family members so I didn’t care to report it till the end of the trip. When they said they would fix it immediately.
I really recommend this hotel and would come back for a relaxing trip.

We had room number 1. Beautiful sitting room, lovely bedroom for me and perfectly acceptable smaller room for my son.
The staff were charming and delightful. The grounds are lovely and the beach area was well managed which took some doing as loads of people walking along the beach seemed to think the hotel sunbeds were a sort of free amenity and would just sit down. The staff were very polite to everyone but did maintain the beds are for hotel guests only and hogging them with towels was also not allowed. Early towel hogging is a particular bugbear of mine and not to be expected in expensive hotels. No issue here.
They gave us some Buck’s Fizz and a little cake when I told them it was my son’s birthday which was very sweet.
We dined at various local restaurants and liked Luumo very much. A short stroll from the hotel.
We were also allowed to stay later in our room on day of departure which we really appreciated.
A lovely hotel with kind, welcoming staff. They did not know that I had had some very bad family news just before I arrived but I found the chilled vibe very soothing. Thank you.

Thank you CasaSandra for being my “home away from home for February and March!! As a guest, from the first moment you are in contact with reservations (kudos to Yaima), you feel as if you are part of an elegant estate home, not merely a hotel. The concierge team (Carla, Yailen and Hiran) are so organized and attend to your every want and need - before you know you need it! The restaurants are incredibly yummy and creative for breakfast, lunch on the beach, and dinner; and made so much more special by Chef Andres, David, Carlos, bartender Mario and everyone there who work with love and care in everything they do. After the first day, they knew how I liked my coffee and were ready for me each morning! I can’t describe what a special place this is... from the incredible artwork, the elegant modern Mexican decor, the beautiful rooms, the location near town, the picture perfect beach club, and most especially every member of the team who make it all possible every day, and always with a smile. Thank you CasaSandra!! I very much look forward to seeing you again soon.❤️

We stayed in Ser Casanadra 3 yaers before and was perfect and hotel location is very good and all workers are nice and treat you with nice vibs. Hotel condition and room was very inferior to how we remembered the hotel and it feels rooms not taking the care as before. The towels always smell not so fresh and like more chemics which my wife felt very bad about them. Holbox is beatiful and very nice for everything but expesnive for food and drinks. This is a positive comment because hotel has potential and looks great but they needs to fix the smell from the towels and renew bathrooms and furniture for this price.

Hello! Thank you very much for contacting us! My name is Dianela, I am the sales and marketing director of Ser Casasandra and it will be my pleasure to answer your question. There are several ways to get to Holbox Island, but undoubtedly the safest way to travel to the Island is to book a transfer that will wait for you at the airport and manage your ferry tickets and the taxi to transfer you to the hotel once you have arrived on the island. At Ser Casasandra we can support you with all the coordination of the transfer if you decide to stay with us. Also, at the moment we have an offer available, if you book 4 nights or more for the months of May, June, September and October, the one-way transfer from the Cancun airport to the hotel or from the hotel to the airport will be included in your reservation . Please let me know if I can help you with anything else.

Hi Damien, It will be a pleasure to have you back home. Sargassum on the beaches of Holbox are seasonal, the season lasts approximately from October to February. Our workers clean the beach every morning. and by February it must be very little. Right now, it is already January and you can hardly see the seaweed on our beach.
