For a long time owner, Sandra, wanted to write by the sea. She went in search of a remote world, quiet, where the blue was obvious. One day, she landed in Cancun and the attraction of the Mayan land was overwhelming. She took a small plane and flew over the island of Holbox.Nothing was more attractive to her than the Feast of the colors of nature, barefoot fishermen with their gold teeth, women weaving hammocks or sheathed with their heels in the sand. "I want to do something here, " she said and began to imagine in her head this project now called "the hotel with a human touch" on this very beach. The land of more than 150 species of birds, whale shark, or Damero world's largest fish, mangroves in each corner, all were an inspiration to this artist. Then she wanted to welcome friends from around the world and to express, through a hotel on the island of Holbox, a point of view on life: "peace and art are a great treasure for humans. " Because of this she thought of a place that is romantic, sexy, creative, where the personalized, warm, rustic atmosphere in a luxurious twenty rooms that look to the sea, where one could meet the privacy and whims of its guests. All done out of love and passion. The same place where one can dream and create, and in the best case, where one can rest. The joy of giving and expressing a new way of caring for guests, has been the commitment of the hotel. Every detail has a reason: from the small art gallery with paintings by renowned artists to the beautiful furniture that inhabit the halls.Feelings, emotions, poetry, touches of color, aromas of black coffee, hammocks, fabric on the balconies, fluffy sheets, the sea at every angle, and romantic evenings create the magic of the "place of your dreams."

We had room number 1. Beautiful sitting room, lovely bedroom for me and perfectly acceptable smaller room for my son.
The staff were charming and delightful. The grounds are lovely and the beach area was well managed which took some doing as loads of people walking along the beach seemed to think the hotel sunbeds were a sort of free amenity and would just sit down. The staff were very polite to everyone but did maintain the beds are for hotel guests only and hogging them with towels was also not allowed. Early towel hogging is a particular bugbear of mine and not to be expected in expensive hotels. No issue here.
They gave us some Buck’s Fizz and a little cake when I told them it was my son’s birthday which was very sweet.
We dined at various local restaurants and liked Luumo very much. A short stroll from the hotel.
We were also allowed to stay later in our room on day of departure which we really appreciated.
A lovely hotel with kind, welcoming staff. They did not know that I had had some very bad family news just before I arrived but I found the chilled vibe very soothing. Thank you.

I'm wary to let Holbox visitors in on this boutique paradise where we stayed for three nights, left for another property and then returned. The staff is incredibly supportive, helpful and kind. I was at first upset about our room allocation but then realized what a win it was to be in such a large and renovated Room 5, which overlooks the communal dining and beach area as well as a slice of the ocean. Our family of two adults and two toddlers fit incredibly comfortably in the massive space. When we re-checked in later in the week we stayed in Room 11, which has yet to be renovated and was slightly smaller but still lovely, authentic and plenty of room for us (with a much safer for kids balcony). The only downside to the rooms is the seemingly nonstop blasting of music from Raices (luckily ends at 830) and other loud spots which felt counter to the otherwise quiet experience of the island. The food was fantastic and I am shocked at any negative reviews previously posted. We ate at over 16 different restaurants during our stay on the island and both Ser Esencia and Mojitos were some of our favorites. Breakfast, which is included, consisted of fresh fruit, breads, yogurt and granola (plus pancakes or eggs/omelet if you can even have room). We never had to wake up early to "grab a beach bed" like so many resorts and other hotels on the island. There was plenty of space to spread out, towels at the ready and drink menus plentiful starting at noon. Mojitos was the perfect spot for a barefoot lunch and I highly recommend the mixed ceviche and pork tacos. Prices were in line with other hotel beach restaurants and the vibe was relaxed (unlike some of the more clubby and loud music spots that line the beach). The staff here was so nice to our kids, and they loved watching Eric, the bartender, mix cocktails. We had dinner twice on property and while it is pricey for the island, the food was delicious, as were the cocktails. Our kids ran barefoot between the beach and the small pool all day, and everyone always said hello and asked if there was anything needed. Small touches like bottled water, snacks, in-room Nespresso, free sandals and our welcome drink are just a few of the things that made this stay superior to many others we have had in Mexico. Thank you to Leticia for everything (including arranging childcare!) and Martin for answering all of our questions. We hope to return!

I had read about Isla Holbox for years and decided to do a solo long weekend for beach, rest and spa. This was a bit of an adventure out of my comfort zone. The trip is a 4.5hr flight from LA, a 2hr drive north from Cancun and a 1/2hr ferry to the island. The town of Holbox is charming with no cars and dirt roads with plenty of restaurants. It's not the usual posh luxury boutique hotels you can find in Tulum. It's a simpler, quieter experience. The hotel staff were all charming, always helpful and responsive to every question or situation I had about the hotel. The public spaces are gorgeous as is the beautiful beach. I found the hotel and beach area to be quiet enough and not crowded. The beach service was fine as was the dining experience every evening. I didn't venture out but stayed in hotel for all meals and was happy they were able to accommodate my child-like palate. The dinner menu looked adventurous and interesting I'm sure for most other people. I also enjoyed a wonderful massage and reflexology treatment at the spa. I wasn't thrilled with my first room and they very quickly and happily accommodated me with another room that I preferred . After a day at the beach, the pool was a lovely spot to refresh and nap before dinner. I found the hotel to be reasonably priced for what they offered and would recommend Ser Cassandra to anyone who wanted a peaceful, lovely spot to enjoy the food, beach and people of Isla Holbox. I send my thanks to all at Ser Cassandra who made my trip exactly what I was looking for! One note: would have like a better selection of pillows. Obviously that is not something that should discourage anyone from enjoying this lovely spot!

We were pleasantly surprised with this hotel. We booked the hotel on a whim - without knowing much about it or the island of Holbox, not knowing what to expect.

The hotel was incredibly comfortable. We enjoyed the boutique furnishings. The interior design was relaxing and stylish. The massages were obviously a little more expensive then what you would find on the beach but they were professional and good quality.

I gave it a 5 star not just because of the comfort and beauty, but because the staff went the extra mile for us. Im a vegan and wanted breakfasts that were as delicious and big as the meat eaters! They went out of their way to bring me wonderful dishes every morning. Tell the front desk if you're vegan and they will make special dishes every day. Thank you to the staff and management for all of your extra care!

Since we traveled during the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, we were looking for a small and quiet hotel to enjoy with our children (7-8 year old). We booked this hotel because it was walking distance to the beach (30 feet). The staff was so kind to set up a large room with two twin beds for our kids. Our king bed had a beautiful canopy for privacy. We enjoyed the nightly turndown service when they would change your towels and turn on the incense in your room.

We also wanted something that included breakfast as it is difficult to get ready and go find breakfast with little ones. Breakfast was filling, delicious and healthy. Many complain of the slow service, but you have to realize that this is island-time. This is not a Cancun resort that is created to cater to American or European fast life. The small kitchen needs time to build your meal.

We also really enjoyed the pool. It provided at nice change of scenery for the children to play while we read on the pool deck drinking.

We also really enjoyed using their bikes to move around the island and bike to Mosquito Island. Be aware that cars are not allowed in Holbox. You must walk, sue a bike or golf cart to get to places.

We will definitely be staying there again. If you are looking for an haute hippie experience just a few feet from the beach, then you will like this boutique hotel. This is not a resort. This is not Cancun. This is island life in its purest form.

We had been recommended this boutique hotel on Isla Holbox by our travel agent. We were fortunate that they had a cancellation and we therefore had the opportunity to stay ( in an otherwise full hotel).
The ferry crossing was prompt and lasts about 30 minutes.
We were escorted by our driver on the ferry and also to CasaSandra.
The welcome was slightly less than friendly by the young man on reception.
We were shown just next door to the reception to our room....
This was obviously, on the ground floor, with double doors and a large window overlooking the pool. Fortunately when outside, the shadows are such that you can’t see into the room.
The room itself was reasonably compact, nowhere near enough hanging space but a lovely, comfortable large bed.
The bathroom was fine, with a shower and plenty of shower gels, body lotion etc.
Housekeeping was very good, I returned one morning to find the maid actually ironing the white quilt cover!
Breakfast, taken outside each morning was lovely, always tasty items to eat and the offered coffee was acceptable.
The staff are very friendly and helpful (except the young man on reception).
We had dinner one evening in the restaurant, but it is very expensive and the wine particularly so.
We ate out the following evenings.
The cinema night ran as advised on the Friday evening, but no-one seemed to go.
The beach and beach club were delightful and we must have been lucky as there wasn’t any accumulation of seaweed whilst we were there.
The chairs on the beach and the available towels were good too.
Our main gripe, was that the head of our bed was up against the dividing wall with reception, so when the cleaning started before 7am the broom banging systematically against the wall woke us, then when the reception staff arrived soon after and they chatted, we could hear them. Not ideal at all.
Check out was efficient.
If you are a cat lover, there is a resident cat here, and she regularly left us ‘gifts’ at our door, natural but ugh...
The included yoga each morning was excellent with a friendly, professional yogi and was popular with both guests and other hotels guests, who paid a fee.
It is without doubt a lovely setting, just sad about the location of our room.

An address that should be kept secret.
A special and timeless place where you feel like home.
We had small villa 14 with two bedrooms , it was magical.
We really felt like home.

The whole team was great from the beginning , booking process , help with various questions ...

The beach of casa sandra is the most beautiful on the island.
The restaurants are very qualitative and the breakfasts of a high quality.

Sunday evening grill on the beach is highly recommended.

Morning yoga classes are free and really great.
Massages are also great.

Thanks to Martin who accompanied us throughout the stay.

Thank you to the whole Casa Sandra team for their professionalism and for making us live this unforgettable and timeless week.

WARNING: Customer service at this hotel does not match their pricing. I have emailed them 3x with a question and tried calling them. In none of these attempts did they respond to me OR answer their phones. I'm in the same time zone so that isn't the issue. It must be very nice for them to do such great business they treat their customers like this.

We stayed in an Ocean Suite for 3 nights at the end of our short trip to Mexico and we loved the room and hotel! We would definitely recommend staying here if you want understated luxury. The staff were very friendly and kept offering to organise something for our 25th anniversary, which we were celebrating! We arrived to a bottle of bubbly in our room, which was very kind of them! They organised for our collection from Tulum and also for our airport drop off and the car was much better than other taxis and the driver very professional (we had experienced an awful taxi ride to our previous hotel - not organised by Casasandra! The drivers in Mexico are fast and drive so close to each other!) The hotel was very chilled, but we felt very cared for. The pool area and beach club were great and you don’t feel you are walking over the road to get to the beach club as it’s a sandy track. The food here is delicious and the prawn pasta with truffle (also can be lobster) was amazing, so you should definitely eat here! The breakfast and lunch was also really good. The hotel is within walking/cycling distance of other bars and restaurants. We would recommend taking a bike out to the end of the beach area where you can then wade along the water in the sand bank (out at sea) to mosquito coast to spot rays and fish. You will see other people do this in the sea so follow them and don’t make the mistake of following the path which takes you to flooded mangrove. We did this and then found out there were possibly crocs in the water where we were walking! As we were in shorts (not swimmers) we hired a canoe, but went back the next day to walk through the shallow sand bank in our swimmers. I would also recommend wearing a sun top, hat and taking a water bottle! We walked as far as all the other boats. The only tiny thing we didn’t like was the mojito cocktail in the main restaurant and they weren’t generous with the measurements of wine by the glass! We didn’t taste the cocktails by the beach, though.

We paid $1800 pesos for 2 people for a day pass to the beach club. This hotel appeared to have the most comfortable luxury beach club on this stretch of beach. After paying for our day passes + food and beverage minimums, we were told we could not sit in any of the loungers in the first two rows as this was reserved for guests. But this rule was not enforced to everyone - other day pass holders with wristbands moved to the front beach chairs and nothing was said to them.

The service here is absolutely terrible. 2 servers for the entire beach club and restaurant. Anytime you wanted to order something, it took 20 + minutes to flag down your server and another 45 minutes to get whatever it was you ordered.

Everything was SO expensive, we ended up spending close to $3700 pesos for a beach club, lunch and drinks for 2 people and it ended up being a hassle anyway. Go to the Mystique Royalton if you're looking for a beach club for the day. They are much more welcoming, better at service all around and are WAY more cost effective.

While the hotel looked beautiful at first glance, the service definitely lacks luster.

Hello! Thank you very much for contacting us! My name is Dianela, I am the sales and marketing director of Ser Casasandra and it will be my pleasure to answer your question. There are several ways to get to Holbox Island, but undoubtedly the safest way to travel to the Island is to book a transfer that will wait for you at the airport and manage your ferry tickets and the taxi to transfer you to the hotel once you have arrived on the island. At Ser Casasandra we can support you with all the coordination of the transfer if you decide to stay with us. Also, at the moment we have an offer available, if you book 4 nights or more for the months of May, June, September and October, the one-way transfer from the Cancun airport to the hotel or from the hotel to the airport will be included in your reservation . Please let me know if I can help you with anything else.

Hi Damien, It will be a pleasure to have you back home. Sargassum on the beaches of Holbox are seasonal, the season lasts approximately from October to February. Our workers clean the beach every morning. and by February it must be very little. Right now, it is already January and you can hardly see the seaweed on our beach.
