We arrived at Holbox with my group of friends from Cancun not knowing where we would stay that night. We searched the internet and found this hotel as an option. The reception lady was very friendly and patient with us and guided us through the whole process of being able to book a room at the best price as in her system she had no availability, so we used ExpedĂa on this occasion. The room was very comfortable, clean, with good amenities and facilities, however, caused us some conflict the bathroom door as it was Glass and there was an opening where you could see from the outside. It was uncomfortable as I stayed with my friends in the room.
We had breakfast at the hotel, overlooking the sea, had a very comfortable time at breakfast, had a very rich green juice, provided us with bread for coffee and ordered some green chilaquiles, they were fine, but I didn't love them.

This hotel is so far from what we expected from the star rating, photos and price we paid. Overall its very run down, the furniture, the restaurant, decor and the common areas. We ate at the restaurant for breakfast once and it was a terrible experience, barely any of the staff can speak English so it was very difficult when ordering, the food was some of the worst I have had on the island, very underwhelming and the orange juice was watered down. Unlike the photos, there’s actually only one restaurant and it’s on the beach, there are so many flies and the staff cleaned the table with a spare napkin before setting it up for the next people. The pictures this hotel advertises are not accurate at all! There are not enough Sun loungers, the pool is very small with no seating around it. The gym is good however disinfectant and paper towels should be provided to clean. It took us 45 minutes to check in at 3pm, the simplest tasks seem to be over complicated and there’s no sense of urgency, I have found this with general things such as getting towels, reserving the gym, even ordering room service. The rooms are nice and clean, fresh towels are provided each day. The only issue with the rooms are that there’s no privacy and you can hear the neighbours talking. WiFi is not great but this is not uncommon for Holbox. The location is very good, far enough out of town to be quiet but not too far to walk in for amenities.
This hotel is meant to be “luxury” but having travelled a lot and stayed in another hotel on Holbox, which was a fraction of the price, I would not recommend Mystique and would advise staying elsewhere.

The hotel itself was enjoyable, very clean and the service was outstanding. Our beach front view room was nice and there was plenty of room to spread-out. The beach front rooms are in front of a road, so there was some noise from taxies and dirt bikes. All staff were extremely friendly, and always very helpful with any questions we had. The food and drinks were average, nothing bad; but nothing remarkable. As a Titanium Elite, I was able to select a set breakfast as an welcome amenity (I did need to the show the app indicating breakfast was an option). The pool is on the smaller side, and well maintained. There are only a few loungers and we enjoyed the peacefulness of the area. The beach was well kept, and on days seaweed was present, it was raked. The only downside was the loud music, which made it difficult to relax. It is an easy walk into town from the hotel; however, would definitely recommend getting a taxi when arriving / departing (around 100 Pesos each way). The walk to/from the ferry terminal is too far with luggage. While Holbox was not a good fit for us, we are glad we stayed at this hotel while on the island.

My husband and I stayed for 6 nights in the Presidential Suite, and we had a wonderful experience. The room was beautiful - it was honestly too much space for the two of us but it made me feel very pampered. We ate our meals on the balcony, which has a lovely view of the beach and ocean through the trees in front of the hotel (the suite occupies the second and third floors of the building). We didn't spend much time on the private rooftop, although it did storm one evening and it was very cool to go up top and watch the wind and the waves. And of course we got some amazing pictures up there for the 'gram.
The customer service was phenomenal. Jessica at the front desk took exceptional care of us. She booked two kayak excursions for us, and arranged all of the transportation that we needed during our stay. Hector was delightful and brought me a steady supply of pina coladas on the days that I spent reading and relaxing in the tents they have set up on the beach. The hotel was clean and housekeeping did a great job on the days that we needed them. One evening the thermostat started randomly beeping - I asked the front desk to have someone come check it out and they addressed it as though my minor annoyance was an all-hands-on-deck emergency, and the issue was fixed immediately.
I ordered room service breakfast one morning and it was a bit underwhelming, but there are so many food options all over the island that we didn't have much need for food at the hotel since we wanted to try so many places.
When I come back to Isla Holbox (and I plan to after this experience!), I will be staying at Mystique again.

Let me start with the positive parts of this hotel. The location is great, the beach and restaurant (see my separate review) are amazing, and it's clean and well kept up. The staff are very nice, but do not expect them to be responsive to your needs in the way you would think you get at a 5-star hotel. Fantastic beach.
Now to the rest. They do not answer their phones. Get a WhatsApp number for them if you want any kind of response. They do not help organize tours, you will need to do this with other partners. They are super nice, they just get things done very slowly if they don't forget. One day our room was never made up until we went out to dinner and asked them to do it. One day I asked for a towel since they had only given us 2 (we were 4 people), and it never showed up. The next day when I asked again, we got 3 extras. I asked for a luggage rack upon arrival, or a small table to put our suitcases on, nothing ever showed up. Also, don't come to this hotel for the pool. It is really small - you come to Holbox for the beach anyway and this hotel has a gorgeous beach.
My suggestion to the management. Invest in luggage racks (2 per room). This will cost you less than $15 each, and most guests do not like putting luggage on the floor. What people expect at a star rated hotel is service. Invest in a concierge desk or have one of the local tour operators open a kiosk on your property. Guests want to book tours, fishing, excursions and more. The fact that your staff cannot help with this is a big deficit. Keep up the good work, but recognize that people who arrive are expecting much better service.

Holbox is truly a magical destination, and we had one of our best beach holidays ever.
I checked in with some hesitation after reading recent reviews but was pleasantly surprised by certain aspects of our stay.
We enjoyed our time at Mystique primarily due to the excellent service from the moment we arrived. The staff were friendly, attentive, and quick to handle any issues. They provided great restaurant recommendations and efficiently arranged a tour for us.
Our ocean-facing suite was spacious, clean, and featured a comfortable bed and a good shower. The in-room coffee-making facilities were a nice touch. We especially appreciated the two large outdoor spaces, including a private lounging area with sunbeds.
The location was also ideal—close to the town center with easy access to excellent restaurants.
Why Only Three Stars:
Unfortunately, several aspects of the property fell short:
• The common areas felt dated, poorly maintained, and quite claustrophobic. The bar/lounge area seemed poorly designed. Oddly, there were two elliptical machines placed there instead of in the gym where they belong.
• The pool was extremely small and felt unnecessary given the beautiful beach nearby.
• While the gym was well-equipped, much of the equipment was in poor condition and in need of repair.

Unless management takes steps to fully renovate and refresh the property, I would recommend exploring other accommodation options in Holbox. There are plenty of choices to suit every budget.
I checked in with some hesitation after reading recent reviews but was pleasantly surprised by certain aspects of our stay.
We enjoyed our time at Mystique primarily due to the excellent service from the moment we arrived. The staff were friendly, attentive, and quick to handle any issues. They provided great restaurant recommendations and efficiently arranged a tour for us.
Our ocean-facing suite was spacious, clean, and featured a comfortable bed and a good shower. The in-room coffee-making facilities were a nice touch. We especially appreciated the two large outdoor spaces, including a private lounging area with sunbeds.
The location was also ideal—close to the town center with easy access to excellent restaurants.
Why Only Three Stars:
Unfortunately, several aspects of the property fell short:
• The common areas felt dated, poorly maintained, and quite claustrophobic. The bar/lounge area seemed poorly designed. Oddly, there were two elliptical machines placed there instead of in the gym where they belong.
• The pool was extremely small and felt unnecessary given the beautiful beach nearby.
• While the gym was well-equipped, much of the equipment was in poor condition and in need of repair.
