First of all, let's get something out there: please do not go to La Sagesse expecting it to be some sterile Hilton or La Quinta plopped on a beach. It also is not a Starbucks or McDonalds. This place, perhaps uniquely, is a stalwart of what the REAL Caribbean beachfront hotels were...and still should be..but mostly are not. It is a diamond among rhinestones. We stayed in Ted's Room. The a/c was so efficient we had to turn it down. It was superb. The bed was 100%. The shower worked fine after we figured out to turn the hot water up all the way FIRST then add cold water. The staff are the best I have encountered in all my years of international travel, and I treat them as fellow travelers, not servants. The beach never had more than a dozen people on it in a week of good weather. Mike has something really special here, and we will be coming back as long as we can. As for the restaurant, Mike invited us to see the fish just brought from the market which I later that day had as a meal. Marlin is tasty! Go here and find the true definition of "laid back" without slackness.

This family owned small hotel excels at treating guests as friends. You can have total peace and quiet or you can join with meeting other like minded couples from around the world. The hotel is special because it is small with only 12 special comfortable bedrooms which have their own bathrooms and in many cases their own beach view shaded deck.
The family and staff always have a smile on their faces and the service is quiet, thoughtful and always top quality.
Mike, Lin, Sammy and Eldridge run a hotel that gives you those ‘special moments and memories’ that you will not receive at any of the larger hotels.
The beach, which is only less than 10 metres from the buildings is heavenly white soft fine sand and there is plenty of shade to sit or lie down to soak up the sounds of the gentle waves lapping the gently sloping beach. A balmy 26C when we were there last week!!
There a few kayaks & paddle boards if you want to explore. Snorkelling is best closer to the side shore of the bays where there are rocks and coral.
Taxis to airport are easily arranged by staff and you will want for nothing except some good books to read.
The catering first class with a wide choice of fish, meat and salad and vegetarian options. A good range of drinks and cocktails are also on offer all day.
This was a truly memorable holiday that we will try to repeat in years to come.

Pros: steps from beach, only place on this pretty little beach till they finish sixth sense (a reaaally expensive place I think they destroyed some mangroves for). Clean and comfy, includes sea kayaks and paddle boards, pretty good food, probably the best service we experienced on island (and that’s a tough bar since they were all great)

Cons: there were ants (which we didn’t say anything about-just chalked up to the location), water never really very hot (again, not a big deal for us-content with a lukewarm shower)

Who should stay there: people who like quaint little out of the way places, who don’t mind not having a pool, who want the fewest steps to a nice beach.

A little story: we showed up sweating bullets and asked the woman there to show us rooms just in case (long story) and she said we can check out whenever we liked as next day no one was checking in. She also said we could just use one if the rooms to shower, change, put our stuff somewhere, etc even if we didn’t stay at no charge! We didn’t take her up on either but thought that was so nice of her.

How can one have anything but good things to say about a room within yards of the softly breaking waves on the white sandy beach? A comfortable room with no distractions of TV, phone or A/C but with ceiling and floor fans (only the ceiling fan was needed) and a view to die for. The front desk staff, kitchen & bar staff, and the attentive owners made it a great experience. For those looking for an authentic island experience instead of a bland hotel this is your kind of place

When we booked our accommodation to Grenada we had to choose a Pure Safe hotel that was approved by the government. We opted for La Sagesse as we had stayed there 8 times in the past so we knew what to expect & were hoping it had the same friendly welcoming ambience.
We chos to stay in one of the rooms in the duplex cottage at the end of the hotel’s accommodation because of it’s superior outside space & excellent overhead solid shade.
Although the rooms do not have A/C the sea breeze & fan keep you cool. The room also had a small fridge & we were provided with a tea kettle.
The restaurant was very close to the sea & the food was of very good quality, reasonably priced & our requests were responded to flexibly.
We can recommend the fruit plate & 2 eggs scrambled for breakfast, the boneless beef roti (big enough to share for 2) for lunch & any of the fish dishes for the evening meal.
The beach was clean & loungers were available to guests. Sometimes due to heavy rain the small river that runs into the bay carries into the sea a few sticks & branches which can make getting into the water a little bit less easy at times but not impossible. We wouldn’t hesitate to return.

La Sagesse was the first property we booked when planning our visit to Grenada. We knew we would need to quarantine for 2 days minimum, and thought the property would be ideal. Luckily, it exceeded our expectations in every way. Upon arrival we learned our room had been upgraded to an Ocean Suite, as close to the beach as you can get! We spent hours on our balcony and fell asleep every night to the sound of the waves. Since we were confined to our room, we enjoyed room service for every meal - the food and drinks were delicious! By the second night, John let us know we had been cleared from quarantine, and enjoyed hours of time on the beach just steps away from our room. Sammy took excellent care of us and was always just a text or a phone call away, answering our every question. It was a much-needed tranquil location to unwind after a stressful pandemic year, and we hope to return in the future! Hoping the masses don't discover this spot, it truly is a hidden gem.

Visited La Sagesse last week on the strength of a couple of newspaper and magazine articles reinforced by reviews such as these here. Happy to endorse comments made by others regarding the warmth of the reception given to guests by the owners and staff. The beach is beautiful - everything you might imagine (although the backdrop now being rather spoilt a bit by new development). Swimming great but a bit of caution advised as the breakers are huge and powerful. Cooking pretty good but restricted and unchanging menu - a real shame.

This is a wonderful small hotel and restaurant on a small bay with a nice beach in front. Owners Mike and Lynn and the entire staff went out o their way to help up have a good stay and accommodate our requests. We could hear the ocean all night from our room, and Mike and Lynn showed us some trails we could walk out to points on the ocean for great views. The hotel and beach were very laid back when we were there. The restaurant has great food and saved us from having to drive at night on the Grenadian roads, which is something that probably should be avoided. This place is all we are looking for in a Caribbean island hotel, and if we go back to Grenada we will certainly stay here again. The only negative to this site is a large hotel that is being built about a half a mile away across the bay. We could hear no noise from it and did not pay any attention to it after a few days. When it is all finished it would not be a detraction for us.

I stayed at the La Sagesse in late October 2021. Due to Covid restrictions upon arriving in Grenada, I was required to quarantine for 2 days at the hotel. Honestly, as bad as you might think quarantining in a hotel could be this experience was the complete opposite. Although we were restricted from moving about the hotel property and were limited to our rooms and cottage balcony (50 ft from the water!!), the staff made it seem as though we were royalty at the hotel. Constantly checking on us to see if we needed meals, drinks, or anything at all. Truly exceptional service. Once we got clearance to leave quarantine we decided to stay several more days. The property is gorgeous. Very well kept up, The landscaping is beautiful. The rooms have a rustic feel (No A/C or TVs) but the constant ocean breeze keeps things very comfortable. All the rooms and cottages are literally steps from the beach and the hotel restaurant/bar. The food is just superb. From local island fare to traditional seafood and steaks. I have traveled all over the world on business and vacation and I can honestly say my stay at La Sagesse is one of the best experiences I have ever had.

Warning: if you stay at la Sagesse Hotel you may never want to leave. I arrived intending to stay a few days and ended up staying for nearly a month. And I was not the only one.

It was love at first sight: I arrived from JFK and needed to stay two days in quarantine. My room was so nice, I was actually disappointed when my quarantine was over! But I didn't venture far, just hopped the wall on my terrace and ventured 20 feet to to meet the waves I had been listening to all night.

I usually love to explore the islands and countries I visit but once settled in at la Sagesse, it actually took a lot of effort just to get in my rental car and leave. However, I found it worth the effort as I headed out every couple of days to go scuba diving with Eco-Dives, or to venture up into the magnificent mountains to bathe in wonderful waterfalls.

One of the best parts of staying at la Sagesse (and there must be a hundred best parts) was the daily Hike with Mike, the owner. Mike will take you up into the hills and out along the spectacular coastline with him each morning -- and then, if you have the energy for it, out for a swim in the bay.

The managers Sammy and Eldridge and their amazingly efficient, friendly and professional team at la Sagesse all cook, clean and care for the guests in a way you will think you are staying at Windsor Castle with the Queen. And the fact that the British could only dream of such as place as this must explainwhy I do believe I spotted her while was there.

I could go on and on with my review but will stop here before this turns into a tome. I write these words with some reservation, as I hope to be able to get a reservation when I return to la Sagesse. And I will return, as soon as I can.

Is this hotel baby-friendly? If I booked, I’d be bringing along an 8-month old.

Hello, thanks for your question! We LOVE babies but don't often get to see them on the property. We can certainly accommodate you and your little one! Our beach also has plenty of shade trees to escape the bright sun for your little one.

How is your establishment for a single female traveler? Also, is it better to taxi or rent a car?
Answer from Hendrik M
Garching bei Munchen, Germany12 contributions4 helpful votes
It is very quiet with only 12 rooms. Not sure what you mean with suitable for a single female traveler. The owners are very helpful. It is quite remote 20 min by taxi to the main town also possible by bus during the week. Quite a hoot to go by bus. They have a great "associated" taxi driver that you can call and arrange tours quite easily with. He is an excellent guide and I really recommend him. If your stay is longer a rental car may be not a bad idea to be more flexible, but off the main roads can be quite an adventure.

I'm sorry I don't recall. The owner has a local guy he uses. Perhaps ask him to organise the transfer.
