We stayed at Pagua Bay House Oceanfront in July 2021 (for our mandatory quarantine on arrival in Dominica). Initially we were blown away by the breathtaking ocean views. The Cabanas are all clean and have a modern/rustic decor which is nice. We stayed in Cabana Suite 6 which has its own deep plunge bathtub within a spacious bathroom. The resort operates on a WhatsApp “on demand” service so you can text the hotel manager if anything is needed. Unfortunately the overall experience was tarnished due to a few aspects which would have gone a long way for any guest who stays more than 2 or 3 days. There are no TVs in any cabanas. Water was not provided in the Cabanas- this (even if they use refillable bottles of tap water) should have been provided free of charge given the heat. No tea or coffee is provided in the Cabanas. Good quality Dominican tea and coffee is inexpensive and would go a long way. The menu did not change the entire week (you would typically - in a quality resort - at least have a soup of the day etc) , the bar was under stocked, we asked for a mimosa the day we arrived but were advised there was no sparkling wine/Prosecco) - when we asked on day 5 and there was still none we paid the hotel’s driver to pop to the local store which he kindly did … only to return with the wine and then we are told the bar has no orange juice (or any juice for that matter) …. no juice all week, other than a cloudy apple juice made from the local custard apple, which was not to our liking. Given there were no TVs in the rooms - we hoped the TV in the restaurant might work, but it didn’t- all week. Our bedding wasn’t changed the entire week (although perhaps if we had called up and requested this might have been done) That said, the staff were amazing and in particular, Taureka constantly asked how we were and if we needed anything- she even brought coffee up for us one morning as she saw that we were up. Also the view truly is spectacular so if you are after some solace and tranquility then the above points may not bother you so much. The facilities make this a 2-3 star resort but the view and staff elevate it to 3-4 star.…
Pagua Bay House is a beautiful property that offers comfort, relaxation and good vibes for all. The food is so fresh and delicious I think I put on five pounds with no regrets. Dominica is an island like no other, with plenty of interesting ways to get lost in its natural beauty. I took on the challenge of hiking Boiling Lake and it turned out to be one of the great experiences of my life. I can't say enough good things about Rick and Alicia, they're so warm and friendly you won't want to leave. I can't wait to go back and experience it all over again.
Pagua Bay is stunningly beautiful, no doubt. And, my room was fantastic -- especially the tub! But, what I really loved was how helpful the owner was. She went way out of her way to suggest things for me to do, sending me a long, detailed message about each activity. That she'd take time out of her busy schedule meant a lot.
The only thing I would change about my stay here, is how long I stayed; I wish I could have extended my stay. Pagua Bay is a special slice of paradise in paradise aka Dominica. The ambiance, the location, the food, the staff….my list can go on. I’ll definitely be back for another stay.
Let me begin by saying I’ve never ever had such amazing hospitality!! My mom & I were very nervous about having to quarantine & Alicia did everything in her power to make us feel at home, even before we got there. THANK YOU GUYS so much !!! Words honestly aren’t enough , the place is beautiful, the food is amazing, the staff is so tentative just amazing . I had a terrible toothache while there & Alicia & her staff found a way to get my medication & asked me every day until we left if I was ok she even helped organize our testing after we left her & my gosh was that a blessing as well . Alicia I will be back & will always be happy to stay . Thank you guys again - Shannia & Her mom❤️❤️❤️❤️
