Stayed for one night. The hotel is traditional and independently run. There are intersting photographs of the hotel from the late 1800's. Room was clean and of a reasonable size for a single room. Initially dripping sound from toilet cistern, was promptly repaired, Reception was freindly and helpful. TV Arial cable was damaged and initially tv did not work, after... More

Made welcome as we had a dog with us. Sat in the garden and enjoyed a really lovely lunch. Steak sandwich was excellent as was the Welsh rarebit sandwich! Service was ok, one man seemed to be doing everything!

Stayed a night . With my wife . Was going to try the restaurant as heard great reviews on the place , but upon going into the bar and being met by load of drunk young lads . Talking about fighting with locals etc decided not ,as for the hotel , it's starting to show signs of age . Considering... More

Thank you for taking the time to write your review. Our gastro bar is a relaxed, friendly and welcoming environment enjoyed by our lovely guests and families alike for which we are praised on. We have wonderful attentive bar staff who had they been made aware would have attended to any issue you found. We also have a separate lounge... More

Decided to stay on a whim and we're happy to have found this lovely hotel. Set on the edge of the Main Street, very nice hotel, clean and welcoming. We had a room in the annex which was lovely. Didn't have dinner but breakfast was lush. No complaints, would def return.

Whims can often lead to the best finds. . .but many are disappointed when turning up on spec in our busiest summer period to find we are fully booked! We pride ourselves - and hotel inspectors rate us highly for - welcoming staff, cleanliness, excellent rooms, and 'lush' breakfasts. . .as well as amazing 2 AA Rosette lunches and dinners,... More

We were staying in Blaenau Ffestiniog but decided to stop in Porthmadog for something to eat. Not many places were open but we had seen some good reviews of The Royal Sportsman on here so decided to have a look. We sat in the bar - the barman was very welcoming. We were very pleased to see that both the... More

Sooooo glad you found us and decided to believe the many other excellent reviews we receive from your fellow travellers! We are probably the only eating place open every morning for breakfast, day for lunch, and night for dinners and, as well as our friendly bar where you sat, have a lovely patio garden, relaxing lounge, and elegant restaurant (Porthmadog's... Hotel is friendly, well positioned for tourism with a great bar and good restaurant - great menu. The hotel supports those with disabilities as it has rooms with easy access. Some of the rooms indoors are in need of refurbishment but they still charge the same price. Overall comfortable, friendly and accessible. Tip: Free wifi only works for phones and... More

Glad to hear the vast majority of everything we offer at our AA 3-star hotel and 2 Rosette restaurant was great for you, especially the access for customers/guests with disabilities. We are gradually re-furbishing our rooms - though the vast majority were only done a few years ago under the previous owner - and we believe all our rooms are... More

Staff were very friendly/helpful. Hotel/room spotlessly clean. Good central location. Breakfast was nicely prepared and plentiful Some of the carpeting/décor could do with a freshen up. A hairdryer would be a good addition

We are so glad you enjoyed our staff, your room, the location and breakfast. We are in the ongoing process of freshening up some carpets and decor in our public areas - while retaining our essential Victorian character - and there is a hairdryer in a clothes drawer of each room, which is explained in the information folder or can... We had a courtyard family room, with a small area to sit outside. It was too wet to take advantage of that! Room very comfortable, but the current trend to just provide wall lights in hotel rooms meant it was gloomy especially in bad weather. Breakfast was good with a nice selection of fruit and pastries, although the full breakfast... More

Thanks for a lovely review overall of your stay. Our rooms are all comfortable but we will consider the lighting given our very changeable weather now even in the 'summer'! Our Continental and Full-cooked breakfasts are rated as among the best in Snowdonia by hotel inspectors and many other guests. Our 'risotto' - and indeed quite a few of our... More
