Stonefield Castle Hotel is an outstanding example of Scottish baronial architecture. Built in 1837, the Castle stands high on the famous Kintyre peninsula, commanding spectacular panoramic views over Loch Fyne. In keeping with its unique location and character, many of the original period furnishings have been retained to complement the timeless ambience that is Stonefield Castle. Guests can relax in the traditional elegance of wood panelled lounges with fine corniced ceilings, unwind on leisurely walks through the sixty acres of woodland grounds, or simply enjoy a leisurely pace of life far removed from the stress of city living.

This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.

Nestled in a remote area with breathtaking views of Loch Fyne, Stonefield Castle Hotel captivates many guests with its historic charm and picturesque setting. While the hotel's location is somewhat isolated, limiting nearby dining options, the ambiance is often described as warm and inviting. Guests generally receive outstanding service from attentive staff, though some have encountered reservation rigidity. Room experiences can vary, with praise for the views and comfort but some dissatisfaction with cleanliness and datedness. The amenities, including the pet-friendly policy and the scenery, are widely appreciated, despite occasional Wi-Fi and furniture concerns.

Second visit to this wonderful wee gem. Before I start, know this, it's a wee bit tired. It is also however very clean, staffed by people who quite clearly take pride in their castle hotel, the rooms are very comfortable, the food is absolutely tremendous, the setting is wonderful and the views from the dinning room are quite frankly absurdly jaw dropping. The gardens in summer are also quite magnificent. The sitting rooms downstairs take you back to a time when the world was just a bit of a better place and the ambience of the place is pretty hard to describe.....in a good way. I've been very blessed to have been to many amazing places in my life and fortunate enough to have stayed in many lovely places and this, on paper should not figure.....but we don't live our lives on paper and the Je Ne Sais quoi of Stonefield makes it my favorite place, it really does. Particular shout outs to Issac and the Aussie lad at dinner. The reception lady (Italian?) and the lad from Ayr who showed us to our room. All of the staff are an absolute credit th the hotel. If you are of a "Flash Harry/Flash Harriet" disposition, probably best pass on this place. It's really special and only really for people who "just know" :)

We had a wonderful experience staying at this stunning castle! We loved the ambience, the bar, the views from the dining room, the dinner, the breakfast, the grounds ! The staff , as has been often mentioned in previous reviews were so friendly and engaging. Special mention to Isaac for his bar service and morning service, to Marica for the pack of cards and to Grady who we hoping will be appearing at the Edinburgh Fringe soon on account of his sense of humour! Would love to visit again!

Exceptional. This is a lovely hotel in a quiet location with fabulous views over the loch. Our room was beautifully decorated with a comfortable bed and high quality linens. There was a large shower room and this was the one and only little disappointment- I love to soak in a bath after a day walking so I would make a plea to the owners to retain at least one bath as they renovate the bedrooms. Staff service was first class. Every single member of staff went out of their way to be helpful , welcoming and courteous. The food was excellent. We had great seafood at dinner. The brownie was delicious. Breakfast was also delicious with a great choice. The grounds are also beautiful with lovely woodland walks leading down to the loch. The hotel’s USP is its welcome for dogs. There were dog treats on the reception desk and water bowls here and there. Dogs were offered a sausage for breakfast. The dining room is dog free apart from assistance dogs but other dogs can go anywhere else including the bar. We had a wonderful stay and would definitely visit again. Next time I will book well in advance in the hope of securing a room with a bath.

Everything about this castle hotel was completely on point. The room, the location, the food, the staff and the overall ambiance was just sublime. It was pure escapism at its very best. We stayed in a principle room that was beyond all our expectations. We have travelled extensively and I can honestly say it doesn't get better than this. I would thoroughly recommend anyone to stay here and soak up all that it has to offer. Absolutely stunning in every regard. Thank you to all at stonefield castle, it is a very special, romantic and fascinating place to stay. The island opposite the castle which you can access is an adventure in itself and the walk to nearby tarbert was just beautiful. Go and experience a Scottish castle at it's very best and lose yourself in all that it brings. Johnny and Natasha

Got to be one of the best hotels I’ve stayed in. Staff were amazing from start to finish, beautiful interior, food was fantastic, dog friendly with great walks onsite. Dinner & Breakfast were both delicious. Staff couldn’t have been any friendlier, even took out bags to the room and showed us inside to make sure we were happy. Loved it, hopefully be back sometime soon.

We stayed here as a party of 2 adults and 1 dog. We were thoroughly welcomed as soon as we arrived and shown to our room. We had a great view overlooking to loch. The room was great for what we needed and the large size of the bed was ideal. All staff were personable, knowledgeable and hard working and nothing was too much trouble for them from recommending walks in the area to the service in the bar. The hotel itself is stunning and set in beautiful, peaceful grounds so provided us the perfect base for us to chill out and explore the area with our doggo. Really enjoyed the food during our stay too which is important to us, especially after all the steps we packed in! Thanks everyone so much for our warm welcome and peaceful stay - exactly what we needed.

What a stunning location to have an hotel. An excellent venue with attentive and friendly staff. The bedrooms are spacious, clean and well furnished. the bar and food service is excellent, the views across the loch from our bedroom and especially from the dining room. The dog friendly hotel is ideal for walks and even has it own island to walk around (tide permitting). An excellent venue, near to the town and harbour.

Do not not fall for a 5pm deal in the summer it might be lovely bcos you could go the garden walks however we went in March cold and wet so stayed inside . The room as you can see by photos is tired . We were tired driving for 3hrs to this run down castle. Our aa rosette burger can only be described as a greasy spoon. When a lightswitch is masking taped to the wall is it a 4 star !

We have never regarded our Castle as perfect but having spoken to you in our restaurant and heard your dreadful foul language when you ascended the staircase after dinner, as did other guests, I really feel Stonefield is not the place for you. I hope readers will judge us on reviews posted before and after yours.

We had such a lovely time at the Stonefield Castle Hotel. We were warmly welcomed at reception and shown to our room. The room was a good size , very clean , and the bed comfortable . Tea , coffee and biscuits were available in the room and there was a special bag of treats left out as it was Easter. We had dinner and breakfast and the food was lovely. The gardens are very well looked after and the views stunning. Staff are definitely the most friendly and genuinely caring I have ever met . Nothing was any trouble. We will definitely return.
