Travelers' Choice
Stonefield Castle Hotel is an outstanding example of Scottish baronial architecture. Built in 1837, the Castle stands high on the famous Kintyre peninsula, commanding spectacular panoramic views over Loch Fyne. In keeping with its unique location and character, many of the original period furnishings have been retained to complement the timeless ambience that is Stonefield Castle. Guests can relax in the traditional elegance of wood panelled lounges with fine corniced ceilings, unwind on leisurely walks through the sixty acres of woodland grounds, or simply enjoy a leisurely pace of life far removed from the stress of city living.

We were with a holiday group. The property itself is lovely, grand without being pretentious. Most staff excellent, though some rather less professional young staff in restaurant sometimes struggled, and not all of them seemed happy in their work…. However, these are strange times and this hotel is a bit away from the centre of things, so staffing must be a challenge. The nicest dining room experience was when the very cheerful cleaner joined in on table service, and cast a ray of sunshine! Rooms are very good - but please add a handle above the baths, as many of us struggled a bit to get out. Public rooms spacious and relaxing, the Latvian barman a joy, even waiting at tables despite showing admirable knowledge at our whisky tasting. All hands to the pump attitude was very evident, and appreciated. Food very good at both breakfast and dinner. Thanks to all.

Lovely location, although hotel and room were a little 'tired' and in need of some updating. We paid for a principal room for 3 nights which was lovely and spacious, however the bed wasn't very comfortable and the shower had a tendancy to switch hot to cold and back again. Clearly the hotel is short staffed at the moment, which meant no room refreshes on our stay, having to ask for more tea and coffees, toilet rolls etc. The staff on duty were lovely and extremely helpful though. The breakfast times were too early and you have to book a slot to dine. The only time available to us in the Sunday morning of our stay was 8.15am. Needless to say, we skipped breakfast that day! Food was lovely, but nearly an hours wait between courses on our evening meal meant we ate out the other 2 evenings. The food wasn't nice enough to warrant that amount of delay. Overall a pleasant stay, but won't rush back as they clearly need more staff.

Spent 2 night here on a 5pm deal. Hotel a bit tired and could so with some work done. However our bathroom was huge and newly renovated. The food on both nights & breakfast was lovely & staff very friendly & helpful. They seemed to be working long hours & still had time for a chat.

Stayed for one night recently with family. Food and staff on duty were very good. The hotel is just ok, as with most of this type of hotel parts of it are very tired however it would not prevent me from returning. The food was nice although nothing exceptional , staff were very friendly and helpful

First thing to say is that the food is excellent and the young waiting staff on the ball. The fabric of the building though is definately fading round the edges if you look closely. Bedrooms have been upgraed but no double glazing. With restoration and upgrading they could probably up the room rates by 50 -60 % but I appreciate this is a vey difficult balancing act for the owners. Sooner or later someone will have to bite the bullet though.
