Travelers' Choice
Stonefield Castle Hotel is an outstanding example of Scottish baronial architecture. Built in 1837, the Castle stands high on the famous Kintyre peninsula, commanding spectacular panoramic views over Loch Fyne. In keeping with its unique location and character, many of the original period furnishings have been retained to complement the timeless ambience that is Stonefield Castle. Guests can relax in the traditional elegance of wood panelled lounges with fine corniced ceilings, unwind on leisurely walks through the sixty acres of woodland grounds, or simply enjoy a leisurely pace of life far removed from the stress of city living.

Popped in off the road to get a bite to eat but they were either fully booked or maybe because I wasn’t a guest couldn’t fit me in. Girl on the counter Malika was fantastic and booked me a table 5 minutes down the road.

This is a very grand old building in wonderful grounds. The public rooms are quire splendid, especially the library and drawing room. We booked a loch view room, second most expensive they have. The room was spacious and nicely furnished and the bed was comfortable. However it is accessed from the dingiest most depressing corridor, barely lit with low wattage lights. It did have a loch view, as well as a view of a rusting drainpipe and the back of the kitchen. The window was badly in need of a paint job and wouldn’t close properly. Some of the furniture looked fine till close up. A huge bathroom with a bath from around 1960. The hotel is nice but the loch view room is definitely not worth it.

Amazing hotel, staff really friendly and welcoming. Breakfast and all meals there were brilliant. So many places to visit nearby and so many lovely walks on the grounds of the hotel. We're going back in autumn, can't wait.

We recently spent one night at stonefiled and enjoyed it immensely. The decor of our room was very tasteful. The evening meal was of an extremely high standard as was breakfast, the kippers being of a particular high standard.

Hardly a castle, what with architecturally awful additions and an ugly entrance with orange cones, a green fire door and a loading dock-style ramp. I almost felt sorry for the clerk, who had to tell us we couldn’t have breakfast before leaving at 9:00 — but based on dinner, I doubt it would’ve been as good as what we had on the ferry.

My wife and I have stayed here several times, hence we were keen to return one more time. Unfortunately, our stay was not up to the standard we have come to expect. We booked a Principal Room (330GBP for DB&B) for one night and B&B for the other. The room has been neglected with the curtain hanging down, the carpet needs replacing, a plug for the sink was missing and windows couldn't be open. Our dinner was perfect, great food, great wine and excellent service - 5 stars. One negative was the "Chef's Specials" didn't change for 3 nights. Breakfast the following morning was a huge disappointment! The dining area hadn't been cleaned from the night before with crumbs on seats, food bits on the carpet and a very mouldy orange in the fruit bowl. The cooked breakfast with one rasher of bacon and one egg (yes you can get tomatoes, beans, etc) was paltry given the price you pay. The bacon was warm at best as was the coffee. Cafes are good and their breakfast is superior. I don't want to be negative but this is an honest review.

Stonefield Castle hotel is a bit enigmatic. It is a beautiful building in a beautiful location, tastefully furnished with loads of period features. The dining room outlook is superb sitting above Loch Fyne as it does and there is a lovely walk round a small "island" attached by a narrow spit of land to the expansive grounds. Like many such properties it suffers a bit from age-long wear and tear which is/will be expensive to maintain. It has been hard hit, evidently, by the suicidal and evil Brexit which has hammered the Scottish hospitality industry in some.cases killing businesses stone dead. This means there is a chronic shortage of the foreign labour which sustained Scottish hospitality over at least 20 years. In its place it is pleasing to see local youngsters being given a chance but while those youngsters do the basics well they lack the sort of gravtias you would traditionally expect from a venue of this quality, especially given the prices for accommodation and food and drink. The worst aspect of our stay was our bedroom being located in a corridor where there was a screaming baby and a barking dog. I personally can't understand why either parents and dog owners would be so selfish as to take babies and dogs into a hotel environment where the noise wakes/keeps awake fellow guests and I can't understand why hotels actually countenance this. I didn't complain because I couldn't see what sort of solution could be offered but I notice that whereas dogs until not that long ago wouldn't be admitted to hotels it has become a thing. Maybe we were just unlucky with the baby. On the maintenance side our bathroom door handle was coming off and a light above the bathroom mirror did not light and there was no evident means of switching it on. Made shaving more difficult than it should have been. The hot taps in both the basin and bath turned counter to the traditional direction. An accompaniment to the screaming baby early in the morning was the sound of rainwater gushing off the roof close to our room which sounded like a waterfall. I hate being negative about such a beautiful place and I'm glad others seem to have had a great experience. Maybe a couple of hours of lost sleep affected my take but that is how I feel.

Amazing experience here. We stayed for 3 nights with our dog. The staff were so friendly and really made the stay. They are super dog friendly which was great as we were nervous about staying in a hotel with the dog. The views are incredible and the walk around the grounds and the little island. Only ate here once but the food was great. Thanks to all staff - everyone we met was wonderful

My wife & I have enjoyed a most wonderful 2 night, 3 day break in this lovely hotel. It was like stepping back in time. A great location overlooking Loch Fyne with stunning views from the well stocked bar & dining room. Cosy room, lovely food, in particular a lovely breakfast with fresh fruit & tasty haggis in abundance. I must add that the welcome & constant first class treatment we received from all the staff was absolutely top class. We cannot wait to return!

My partner and I had a two night stay at this lovely comfortable and friendly location. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The grounds and island are worth exploring. Loved watching the Dolphins playing in the bay as we ate breakfast.
