What a fantastic relaxing atmosphere, the rooms have great character with high ceilings, beautiful victorian bathrooms. We had a fab meal in the restaurant, my lamb shank just fell apart. The management and all the staff are so welcoming and friendly, we cant wait to come back again and we will be soon.

We had just toured Stonehenge and decided to drive a bit further west for somewhere to sleep. We came across Mere, pretty little village, then we saw Old Ship Hotel. Outside rustic, old and classic. I know it's old, rustic and classic on the outside, the inside leaves alot to be desired. We would pass next time.

We stayed one night and I am glad we were not staying for longer. The Hotel is steeped in history but I am not sure where a sports bar fits into the 14th century. The menu looked great but the food was very disappointing it is the only time I have had a rack of lamb which only consisted of...

We called in on the off chance to spend the night on the way back to Essex, rather than fight our way through the half term end traffic on the motorways, and were amazed at the character, value for money, size and comfort of this 17th century hotel. We were treated more like friends and wished we were staying longer....

We were attending a wedding at nearby Stourhead and this was the only accommodation left in the area. We arrived to find the room infested with flies, the window broken, the curtains tatty, the furniture falling apart, the window ledge covered in pigeon faeces and pigeon feathers in the bathroom. We complained twice and the staff showed absolutely no interest...

Discovered by chance looking at Google Maps for a place to meet old friends between London and Cornwall. We had a fantastic time, wonderful environment for us all to catch up, our hosts couldn't have been friendlier. We decided to stay over, and were shown available rooms to choose which we would like. This is an historic building with bags...

Room was dark and depressing. Bathroom was quite modern but windows were clear glass so neighbouring properties could see all! Service was ok but hardly helpful- no willingness to find anywhere we could secure our bikes. We padlocked them to a pipe outside the bar and hoped for the best. Restaurant did not look good so we went over the...

“We were given two rooms next to eachother as the family room had gone and we have three children. This worked well and they gave it to us for the price of the family room rather than charge us for two. Very kind, accomodating people.”

“Room 8 has a low double bed and two singles, the bathroom is large with a bath & a hand held shower however we all took the time to bathe and wrap up in the large fluffy towels so it was no hardship! It's right at the top of the building with lovely original beams..easy paced stairs”
