Trying to find the hotel entrance in the dark was difficult with no lit signs, if I did not know the area I would not of found it, but unfortunately I did. Parking was difficult in the pitch black with no outside lighting and a lot of fallen wet leaves which made the uneven surface of the carpark a hazardous...

Booked in June for one night in a double room, put into only remaining accommodation available which was the self catering cottage. This turned out to be damp, wall and ceiling paper hanging off, jacuzzi bath needed be condemmed, wash basin had a huge crack in it. The blind had broken slats and was generally manky. Cobwebs in abundance. Reason...

Certainly not a normal run of the mill hotel. Just off the sea front set back in some trees but easy enough to find. Every room was different but we had rented 3 and the were all clean and well presented. We didn't use any of the hotels facilities as we were attending a function elsewhere so I can't comment....

Stopped of with friends after a day on the coast for a Sunday Carvery, we came across Alverbank Hotel, I truly am speechless, the building is dated, dirty with broken windows and cobwebs everywhere, after standing at booking table where we were totally ignored for 10 minutes, we were eventually shown into a ballroom, complete with stage, hanging lights and...

The tribute music evenings are great fun but book in advance to avoid disappointment, great food too and fantastic value. The view across the Solent is picture perfect and the setting the hotel is in is wonderful

lovely place to stop for lunch, friendly and food good, they do tribute nights which I have been to but it is also a good place to sit in the garden during the day looking out to the Isle of Wight across the Solent, I have never stayed there but have read previous reviews on this which are not very...

Things to do for this 'hotel' 1. Put signs out the front of the hotel to signify it is a hotel and to welcome guests. 2. Clean the filthy windows and paintwork, including the black cobwebs outside.. 3. Ensure you have enough staff who are not run ragged. 4. Clean (at least) the filthy toilets and refurbish them properly. 5.Outside...

By all means go to there tribute nights or whatever you have been invited to, BUT do not waste your money on a room. They are not up to the standard expected. The linen was clean but that was it. The room was filthy, mouldy and downright shoddy. The whole place needs an overall. Toilets are awful not one loo...

The website shows clean refreshing rooms and a well maintained exterior....the reality is another matter!! The outside of the hotel is grubby the inside even worse! The first room we were offered had numerous marks on the walls, moths stuck to the ceilings a screw for a cupboard handle, mouldy bathroom and mouldy Windows. On leaving the room we walked...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Alverbank Country House Hotel is a Grade II listed venue in Alverstoke, Hampshire, boasting spectacular views of the Solent and the Isle of Wight (host of the world famous annual Cowes Week event!). Also nearby are some of the finest nautical attractions in British naval history, including Lord Nelson's iconic HMS Victory, and the brand new Mary Rose museum. Originally commissioned as a house in 1842 by J.W. Croker (one of the leading figures in Victorian-era politics), the venue has, over the years, played host to many well-known political figures including the Duke of Wellington and former Prime Minister, Sir Robert Peel, who used to catch the teatime train down from London on a Friday to ensure he arrived in time for dinner! The Alverbank has also hosted royalty; Queen Victoria's second son Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh, resided here whilst attending the Naval College next door at Bay House and, later, Prince Edward, Prince of Wales, found it the perfect environment in which to 'escape' the formalities of Osborne House, just across the Solent. Moving forward to the present day, the venue has many different functions. We serve lunch and dinner 7 days per week, as well as hosting regular live music evenings featuring the very best local acts and tribute artists. We are also a fantastic venue for events - whether it is for a corporate meeting, a birthday party, or the wedding of your dreams, our hard-working and dedicated team will do everything they can to ensure you have a fantastic visit that you will remember for many more years to come! ... more   less
