Room 2 has a lovely comfortable bed that gives you a fantastic sea view looking over to the Isle of Wight. The room has a bath with a power jet jacuzzi. Friendly staff, with a very pleasant owner whose breakfast was very tasty. This is a Hotel with lots of character !

Great location, which is the best thing I can say about the hotel. The staff were friendly enough but oh dear the bedrooms really let it down. Tired deco, showers not working and the water was cold. The pillows were flat and uncomfortable, subsequently I did not have a good nights sleep Just glad I only stayed one night.

Alverbank Hotel could be wonderful but is in need of a bit of tlc and better wifi (non in room). The staff are very friendly and welcoming and make the hotel a good place to stay. The bar food is OK too.

we traveled over 500 miles for my nephews wedding and we were upset by the condition of the hotel and the staff service.the decor is old and tired, there is only one male and one female toilet in the main part of the hotel and the ladies was disgrace, the toilet seat was hanging off and there were holes in... Four of us, out for a walk along Stokes Bay seafront, decided to call into the Alverbank Hotel in Stanley park for a cup of coffee and maybe a snack. We ordered four coffees and waited for nearly 20 minutes for the first two to arrive at our table, there were cups obviously, but no saucers, we then had to... More

I cannot praise the hotel staff here enough , we held our wedding ceremony, afternoon tea , and reception here which consisted of the good old hog roast. From start to finish it went without a hitch, and the staff were all so helpful, big thanks to John (owner) and Billy who conducted the day. What made the day so... More

The Alverbank hotel provided the setting for our wedding on March 18th and what a superb place it was. The staff are knowledgeable, helpful, accommodating and efficient. The whole day and evening went seamlessly. It was great to have the wedding, the wedding breakfast, and the reception under one roof, it made for a much more relaxing day. I cannot... More

This is a lovely place to sit and let the world pass you by. Either sit in the garden and look out over to the Isle of Wight or relax in the low lit bar. Either way a pleasant place to stop for a glass of wine or a real ale.

Aa a local I haven't been in the Alverbank for many years. So the nice sunny weather led myself and partner on a stroll along stokes bay. On arrival at the Alverbank we were greeted with smiley happy staff but the bar area looked grubby dirty. Nice to see Heineken on tap so that was the order of the day... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Alverbank Country House Hotel is a Grade II listed venue in Alverstoke, Hampshire, boasting spectacular views of the Solent and the Isle of Wight (host of the world famous annual Cowes Week event!). Also nearby are some of the finest nautical attractions in British naval history, including Lord Nelson's iconic HMS Victory, and the brand new Mary Rose museum. Originally commissioned as a house in 1842 by J.W. Croker (one of the leading figures in Victorian-era politics), the venue has, over the years, played host to many well-known political figures including the Duke of Wellington and former Prime Minister, Sir Robert Peel, who used to catch the teatime train down from London on a Friday to ensure he arrived in time for dinner! The Alverbank has also hosted royalty; Queen Victoria's second son Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh, resided here whilst attending the Naval College next door at Bay House and, later, Prince Edward, Prince of Wales, found it the perfect environment in which to 'escape' the formalities of Osborne House, just across the Solent. Moving forward to the present day, the venue has many different functions. We serve lunch and dinner 7 days per week, as well as hosting regular live music evenings featuring the very best local acts and tribute artists. We are also a fantastic venue for events - whether it is for a corporate meeting, a birthday party, or the wedding of your dreams, our hard-working and dedicated team will do everything they can to ensure you have a fantastic visit that you will remember for many more years to come! ... more   less
