The website shows clean refreshing rooms and a well maintained exterior....the reality is another matter!! The outside of the hotel is grubby the inside even worse! The first room we were offered had numerous marks on the walls, moths stuck to the ceilings a screw for a cupboard handle, mouldy bathroom and mouldy Windows. On leaving the room we walked... More

Well, I don't know where to start, The display boards outside were dirty, content faded and yellow. I can't believe the same say we visited on Saturday lunchtime some poor souls were having a wedding reception there. The chairs in the bar are very dirty and stained, tables so sticky my mobile stuck to it. The ladies loo, well there's... More

Lovely visit to a hotel near the sea. Nice park next door for walking the dogs and nice choice of eating at the hotel, very decently priced. Delightful room with Jacuzzi bath and nice choice for breakfast with salmon and eggs , omelette, a few other options or the full English.

Popped into the Alverbank with my mum for a quiet drink, we live local so thought it would be nice due to it being so close to Stanley Park and the beach. Prices of drinks weren't too bad, not as expensive as some other pubs in Gosport. Anyway, the decor and the grounds have gone downhill which is such a... More

My wife and I attended a wedding service and reception at this hotel on Saturday, 13 August. We were lucky in that we stayed in another hotel as this one was extremely dirty and although a previous reviewer says the décor compliments the hotel, we found it to be dirty and the paint was flaking. The grounds had not been... More

We stayed a single night whilst attending a wedding reception. The staff are friendly and welcoming. Booking in was easy and got a key for the room straight away without any delay. We had room 8, double bed room with an en-suit shower, sink, toilet. Two bottles of sparkling water and a selection of coffee and tea is available in... More

I booked this hotel for us to stay as 25 years ago my husband asked me to marry him, and we celebrated our engagement at the Alverbank Hotel, so I thought I would take him back to reminisce. It was a total surprise for my husband as he thought we were just going for a day trip to the seaside.... More

Booked two rooms at this place for a friends birthday weekend. A delightful hotel, set just off the main road which has lovely sea views from the garden area outside the bar. Arrived and was greeted with a massive smile. Staff were only too happy to help with bags which would be handy if you had a lot of bags.... More

Room 2 has a lovely comfortable bed that gives you a fantastic sea view looking over to the Isle of Wight. The room has a bath with a power jet jacuzzi. Friendly staff, with a very pleasant owner whose breakfast was very tasty. This is a Hotel with lots of character !

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Alverbank Country House Hotel is a Grade II listed venue in Alverstoke, Hampshire, boasting spectacular views of the Solent and the Isle of Wight (host of the world famous annual Cowes Week event!). Also nearby are some of the finest nautical attractions in British naval history, including Lord Nelson's iconic HMS Victory, and the brand new Mary Rose museum. Originally commissioned as a house in 1842 by J.W. Croker (one of the leading figures in Victorian-era politics), the venue has, over the years, played host to many well-known political figures including the Duke of Wellington and former Prime Minister, Sir Robert Peel, who used to catch the teatime train down from London on a Friday to ensure he arrived in time for dinner! The Alverbank has also hosted royalty; Queen Victoria's second son Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh, resided here whilst attending the Naval College next door at Bay House and, later, Prince Edward, Prince of Wales, found it the perfect environment in which to 'escape' the formalities of Osborne House, just across the Solent. Moving forward to the present day, the venue has many different functions. We serve lunch and dinner 7 days per week, as well as hosting regular live music evenings featuring the very best local acts and tribute artists. We are also a fantastic venue for events - whether it is for a corporate meeting, a birthday party, or the wedding of your dreams, our hard-working and dedicated team will do everything they can to ensure you have a fantastic visit that you will remember for many more years to come! ... more   less
