We arrived to a warm welcome from the owner and her dogs, we had a dog and soon they were all running around the extensive gardens. The house is interesting, clean and beautifully furnished so we felt instantly relaxed and at home. Our room, again spotless, was tastefully furnished with lovely linen, amazing view and all together very pleasing. Nothing... More

Large old house with generous rooms. Quirky décor ( sorry Claire ) which appeals to us. No criticisms other to say we recommend what you have there...........suits us, very quiet elevated location in a 3/4 ? acre parkland site. Would recommend for laid back inexpensive atmosphere. David & Coral.

Our second visit to Syon House, and I can't believe it has managed to better itself since before. The house and grounds are simply stunning, quintessentially British - classic and quirky. Gorgeous rooms with ensuite - all immaculate, lovely bedding and well equipped (my children particularly loved the range of biscuits supplied in the room on the tea/coffee tray). The... More

Would hate to have the previous reviewers stay with me. We have returned from another visit to Syon House and could not fault anything. A beautiful house, lovely views, comfortable, spotlessly clean bedroom and en-suite, very welcoming owner and staff who could not have done more to make us welcome. Wonderful breakfasts at a time to suit us, and those... More

When calling to book a foreign girl called Jola ? was busy and offhand and this attitude continued during my stay. No-one to greet me on arrival, called Jola who was offhance and told me to wait. The hotel is falling apart, lights, radiator covers, windows don't open, front door handle falling off, creaky shower door. Jola and owner were... More

Welcome was very poor. No-one answered the door and I stood out there in the rain for several minutes. It transpired that they can't hear the bell from the kitchen! I then had to wait while the only person at home looked up my booking and room number on a slow PC. Room information should be at hand (I was... More

We arrange to stay here for the night through Expedia and there was no instruction given on early arrival, or arrival procedures etc etc. We arrived at 3 pm to be greeting by 3 barking roaming dogs and an empty building with no staff!? We tried calling the hotel repeatedly and received no reply, no answerphone no phone divert so... More

Dear Paul Very many apologies that you were not greeted at Syon House when you arrived, although there was someone in the garden but by the time they came, you had disappeared. Jola tried to call you in the morning to check your time of arrival but your phone was not responding and was back at the property by 3.30... More

We had a lovely overnight stay at Syon House in East Budleigh. The house is beautiful and so well renovated with comfortable lounge, dining room, grounds and very comfortable bedrooms. We walked in to East Budleigh for a drink and a meal (The Walter Raleigh Pub) equally good, slept well and an excellent full English breakfast. Great way to start... More

My impression of Syon House Hotel is that it is a very large family home, with the usual ups and downs associated with family life. It functions more like a bed and breakfast than a hotel. We were disappointed with the first room offered to us because there was not a pleasant view. However, when I mentioned this, we were... More

This is a lovely place. Super bedding and comfortable beds. Great (indulgent) breakfast. But the friendliness of Claire and Jola really made it easy to feel at home. The views from Syon House are terrific, and you can sit on the terrace and watch buzzards and woodpeckers fly across. I would not hesitate to stay there again. The wifi was... More
