We have stayed in many paradors over the years and during a four day period in August we visited 3 more: Cuenca, Teruel and Hondarribia. Cuenca - 5* Teruel - 3.5, so TA 4* Hondarribia - 2* Building is wonderful and the central areas have been restored well, however, the bedroom restoration work is not up to standard of other... More

This is an old castle in a location high on a hill overlooking the sea towards France. As such it is ideal for laying off near to the French border . The exterior is very plain but once through the entrance doors you are in a different word where creative planning and architecture captures all the atmosphere of a bygone... More

Nice small hotel in a nice little town. Beautiful old building. Very friendly staff. Only one problem: Rooms have no airco which we felt as a problem during our stay (hot!) The price was, compared with other Paradores, high, probably due to the season (beach, boat-activities).

If you're going to pick one parador in Spain, this should be your top choice. It's built into a 10th century building that offers sweeping views of Hondarribia and Hendaye just over the French border from both the rooms and the gracious terrace. Breakfast is served both indoors during cooler weather, as well as outdoors in an open atrium covered... More

If you have stayed at Paradors before you will know what to expect and you won't be disappointed. Downside its a trek to the beach and it's at the top of a hill but there is a lift from street level and the walk through town is pleasant. There is no restaurant but loads of places nearby and breakfast is... More

We stayed for 4 nights in July and absolutely loved the old part of the building. Breakfast (very good) was in the original castle courtyard and you can go into the original function rooms, which are wonderfully preserved. We asked for a high room facing the sea, which is what we were given (costs slightly more than the basic room).... More

Take a look at a review (below) entitled, "It's All About The Building". This excellent review gives a good "introduction to and summary of this Parador, and I can only add a couple of additional comments to it: Firstly, the VIEW of the harbour from the Parador is stunningly breathtaking and one can be forgiven for wishing that one were... I loved this hotel. Right on the main square. An old castle redone with modern rooms, a gorgeous courtyard & good harbor view. Breakfast was lovely in the leafy courtyard. I've never been at a hotel with a set of Rubens' tapestries in the meeting room.

We stayed for one night in June. Surprisingly easily found if you follow the hotel direction signs rather than the GPS ! As others have mentioned, the car park is pricey, but is secure and on site, if somewhat cramped. The option is to use public/on road parking with somewhat of a hike uphill to the property. There is a... More

If you could decide the perfect spot for a hotel in Hondarribia this would be it. Of course the location was decided a thousand years ago because of the views across to France checking for any army wanting to kick you out of the castle this hotel once was. The entrance is quite breathtaking, it is a mix of oak,... More
