We attended the Bradul Hotel in Jan 2006 on an all inclusive ski holiday from Airtours, at about £500 each. We were lucky and arrived after a large dump (Of snow please!) The flight and transfer was fine though a lengthy 3+ hours to resort from Bucharest.
The hotel room proved warm comfortable if slightly small, with little cupboard facility. It is attached to the Sport and the Poiana. The All inclusive meals of brekky and evening tea were acceptable though nothing spectacular. The Bradul bar of an evening provided basic alcohol from 4 to 1130 pm, and we inbibed in there to our hearts content. We attended 3 trips. The End of ski school part is a must for a good time with your instructor, the early Bucharest trip on the last day was interesting, and the Dracula Castle trip was nothing special and not worth the £35 to see a large house basically (I was more pissed coz I love Dracul etc).

I Turn to the Ski and conditions and slopes. We had 6 days ski package all inclusive of ski hire, lift passes and full day instruction. The equipment was of good quality rossignol, and my own was very comfortable. The conditions can vary considerably and most of the instructors will say thet they are unpredictable. Last year They had poor snow in Jan, good in Feb, ok in Mar and good in Apr. As we were leaving it was quite compact or icy. There are several runs from blue to limited black, but the long blues and reds from the top are best, as advanced skiers can just do them at a faster pace. They are limited but the fun is there. When we were there the snow had dumped, the sky was blue, the tempratures ranged from blistering -25 to +2 in a week, and the snow was at times excellent, to hard/icy. The views are spectacular of the Transyllvanian Carpathian Mountains (Ha - Ha - Ha as Dracul would say)

The best thing is your instruction, ski or snowboard they are excellent. Going as an advanced skier, I still learned a lot in my 6 full day lessons (mostly repairing bad habits). All of your Romanian instructors are fully trained seasoned skiers and teachers and you will see them perform to their own level with envy. They are faultless in ability. Us Uk 1 - 2 week a year skiers will NEVER attain their ability, however they will improve you whatever your level. I was falling a lot less by the end of the week on the sometimes perfect though sometimes icy reds and limited blacks. One idea I would have would be to teach in the morning (3 to 4 hours), and let loose in the afternoon. Sometimes you have to practice wehat is preached and this cannot happen on a full day tuition, where you are watched and assesed. My wife was in the inter class so I only really seen her in the am and pm. Beware couples / skiers joined at the hip.

They have a new 1/4 up gondola which is functional and great for the advanced to get back up to altitude. The classes for inters and begginers takes place on a wide long staged blue with a button. The bigginer and intermediate instruction is also fantastic, and for the price this place is a must for begginers / inters at least.

This is a long winded review, but I enjoyed my week, the snow was good, the instruction first class, hotel acceptable, equipment comfortable, runs adequate, no problems and the close friendships you draw from an all inclusive environment. We have all fell and laughed, drank and eaten, taught and learned from each other. What more can you want for the price.

New Skiers 2 Adults and 2 Kids (11&8) booked via Airtours on AI basis, but don't expect AI total freedom in the hotel it is quite restricted!

We stayed over the Christmas period 23rd to 30th Dec 2006 and were very worried that there would be no snow for us all to make a fool of ourselves trying to learn to ski on. The rep (Alex) was trying to put a brave face on it during our 3 1/2 hour coach journey to resort. When we started to climb into the mountains we were totally (pleasantly) suprised at the amount of snow draped all over the trees and on the ground <<phew>>. We got to the hotel exausted but gobsmacked at the "Winter Wonderland" scenery we were experiencing.

I would advise you to go as early as possible to get fitted out for your ski equipment (Ski wardrobe to left of Sport Hotel main entrance) as we did because the que got rather large the later it got and you have to be kitted and ready for 10am for your first lesson on the field. I was totally knackered after putting on my own boots and helping the rest of the clan with theres :-) !!

By the third day we were being whisked up the slope on the drag lift and preying everytime that we wouldn't come a-cropper, gradually getting higher and higher up the slope. The kids took to it like ducks to water and were flying down the slope in no time putting me and their mum to shame.

The hotel (Bradul) is very nice, our room was on top floor and quite spacious. The heating was on full blast 24/7 and it got extremely hot in there. Plenty of radiator room to dry out the ski clothes though, and the radiators can always be turned off.

Staff were always curtious and friendly without being overbearing, but the buffet food was a disappointment quite frankly. At best it was luke warm and at worst it was down right cold!! We stuck it out for breakfasts but ate out once we knew the score. The alacarte restaraunt in the Sport Hotel (attached) is gorgeous, don't go for the over priced buffet - eat from the menu. Venison and Sport Burger were excellent! Pizzeria attached to the club in the village (100yrds away) serves wonderful pizzas and the bbq stalls are good for a snack during the day.

Even if you are not going to ski down the mountain you must go to the top of it and have a drink in the bar and a walk around outside, go up to the very top and look over the edge <<YIKES>>!! Your ski lift pass allows cable car rides too.

All in all for our first ski venture it was fabulous, I thought that I would hate it and end up in the bar but to my suprise I loved it and want to do it again. Next time the Alpin Resort Hotel in the same village that has all the Pool and sauna facilities though !

I have put a few of our video clips on youtube if you want to have a look http://youtube.com/profile?user=smagni turn on the speakers!

And more photos on flikr http://www.flickr.com/photos/33482350@N00/

Take plenty of thermals and socks but don't over do anything else your too knackered to bother what you are wearing LOL

Post relates to Hotels Poiana and Bradul, part of the ANA chain of Hotels.Stayed in both hotels from 9/2/13 until 20/2/13. Initially we were accommodated in the Hotel Poiana which had large modern rooms. Down side to this hotel was having to trek over to the Hotel Sport every morning for breakfast. Obviously a cost cutting exercise. Hotel is in a great location and it's unfortunate that it is closing this year to make way for very up market apartments. After 7 nights in the Hotel Poiana we were moved to the Hotel Bradul as accommodation in the Poiana was required to accommodate competitors in Junior Olympic events which were taking place during our stay. Access to the Hotel Bradul can be gained from inside the Hotel Sport, however, whichever entrance you choose you have to climb numerous steps. We found the rooms quite tiny in the section of the hotel where we were accommodated with very little space to hang your clothes. The room did however have a nice balcony with views of the nursery slope. Again all meals had to be taken in Hotel Sport. During our first week we were not permitted to use the main restaurant for dining. Instead we had to eat in a back room where a large school group were also eating. Very little choice of food and because of the kids, the food that was offered came with chips. Cannot understand why we couldn't use the main restaurant which offered a better selection of food. Bar prices in the Hotel Sport are extremely expensive, which really should be looked at. More bums on seats if the prices were lowered! Over all though, a reasonable stay in a wonderful resort.

Dear Sir, Thank you for taking the time to write this review. First of all, we would like to make clear some aspects regarding your stay. After few years of being here with us during the winter season, we had the impression that you really enjoyed your staying with us.Allow us to remind you, that the details of your staying, including the meals (prices and location) and the movement to Hotel Bradul, was well appointed in the contract that we have with out tour operator, and probably you have been informed before arrival in the resort. Also, the staying in Hotel Bradul, which is a four star hotel, was an upgrade from our behalf, because we consider that you are a very confident guest for us. But yet again, we thank you for your time to write this review and we wish you the best ! Feel free to contact us if there is anything else you would like to share. Kind regards, Mihai Moisescu Room Division Manager

for the money it costs to stop at the bradul (or the connecting sport hotel) it is excellent value for money. The included (package holiday) buffet meals were excellent - but the a la carte restaurant was both good value and the food was excellent (lunchtime 2No 2 trimmed steak sandwiches with french fries and salad £2.75) - and its silver service. The rooms are of a decent size and the beds are very comfortable. Bathrooms are in good condition with good shower and nice towels. There bars in the restaurant are good but only 1nO is open late and this is fun but is not up to the rest of the hotel. There are a couple of decent bars in poiana braov and a suprising amount of of very nice bars in brasov. The rossignol bar in brasov (not the one in poiana brasov) is very plush and the bar staff areexcellent. Only down side was strange masseur in fitness suite. This was a brilliant hotel and definitely recommended. I have stopped in Hilton , raddisosn, accor and bewleys hotels and we didnt feel that we were in a downmarket hotel at all.

Just returned from a fantastic first-time skiing trip.
We booked with Airtours, four adults, all forty something, with 2 children aged 9 & 12. We arrived the day before New Years Eve, we stayed at the Bradul Hotel. The hotel brilliant value for money, the rooms were clean and comfortable, a good 3 star rating. The food was buffet-style, offering a good and varied choice; there was something different to choose from each evening, the breakfast was excellent.
We had included with our package a New Years Eve gala dinner – wow what can I say, the meal consisted of 9 courses spread over the evening (last course – cheese and crackers – 12.45am). The entertainment provided included two different groups of local Romanian dancers, a singing group (English well catered for) and a disco.
Regarding money, I would suggest taking sterling and change it at the reception or use the ATM in the adjoining hotel.
The Adult Ski school was superb, the standard of instruction was excellent with our friendly instructor Ion speaking perfect English.
The children’s school was well organised with small groups of children of the same age, the children progressed impressively. The children’s instructors were Silviou and Elizabetha and they were very good with the children.
Included in our 6 day skiing package was ski hire, lift passes and full day instruction The ski boots and ski’s hired were Rossignol and appeared almost new.
The Gondolas and ski lifts run like clockwork and once on top of the mountains the views were spectacular. We enjoyed a meal in the café at the top of the mountain and soaked up the traditional atmosphere, before coming back down in the cable car, although we did see lots of people preparing to ski down.
All in all we would say this was an outstanding value for money holiday.

We booked a ski holiday with Neilson and as our first choice hotel wasn't available we accepted the Poiana even though there were no previous reviews on Trip Advisor, which concerned me more than a little. However our worries were unfounded. This is a great little hotel, we had booked a triple room and were allocated room 505 which was a junior suite, not luxurious by suite standards but for the price we paid it was more than fine. Breakfast is served in the Poiana which consisted of cereals, toast & croissants or a choice of about 5 or 6 hot things, always fresh and the buffet is constantly refilled as things get taken. There is juice or a choice of teas or coffee to drink, again always plentiful. The evening meal is taken in the hotel Sport which is about 50 m walk, I wondered if this would become annoying but it didn't even though it snowed a few evenings we were there. With Neilson the holiday is all inclusive and the AI bar is in the Hotel Bradul, which is again a 50 m walk down the road (same location as the Sport) but it wasn't a problem and it was great meeting the people in the bar that you'd been chatting to in the lift queues earlier that day. Drinks in the AI are good and never seem to run out (unlike some summer AI destinations) and the afternoon tea & cake is ok if a little repetitive, but maybe Romanians don't go a bundle on cake.
We took the local bus into Brasov one day, which is not really very impressive apart from some of the buildings. It cost a few pence, ran to schedule and took about 30 minutes. The shops in Brasov are pretty naff to say the least and don't go looking for bargains in ski equipment or clothing as there are none to be had, but before you go as it'll most probably be cheaper. We found the Irish bar though and this was great. Food there is cheap (as everywhere) and was exceptionally good - try the tacos if you want a change from the local food, they are lovely. And the owner, a singing irish doctor no less, is very charming and happy to sit and chat. Just ask him about his days on The Love Boat and you'll pass the time away!
Poiana Brasov itself isn't really a town as such, just a few hotels, a small local market selling a few souveniers and animal skins, a couple of restaurants and a couple of bars. Try Wednesday evening at the Rossignol pub as it is karaoke night, most of the instructors are happy to go with you and it's a great evening.
The ski school in Poiana Brasov is excellent, the instructors speak almost perfect English and I would consider them better than most I have seen in the main European resorts.

In closing, don't go to Poiana Brasov if you are looking for excellent food, hundreds of km's of piste, high class shops and lots of evening entertainment, but if you are looking for simple fun in great company then it might just be for you. We loved it and will probably be booking very soon for Jan 2010.

If you want to know anything about the hotel or the resort please feel free to contact me.

Front desk has no permanent officer; you have to call for it every time!
I asked for an iron machine; they don't have this service!
Poor choice of meals!!! You can say you re still starving after eating in this hotel.
Linen and towels are old and brocken!
Water is dropping without any pressure!
Old furniture! TV remote control was brocken! Missing lightballs or burned! Dirty rooms and bathroom tiles!
I m curios what do they do with all the money they charge for a room (expensive) and they offer this conditions!
Romanian tipical management- they think only for profit!
Disappointed!!

It is a Nice & clean hotel in Poiana. It is next to the ski center and there is a nice parking outside. Breakfast was very good, and the room was alway clean, with new towels, television & enough space.
But, the value for money is terrible.
And the thing that pissed me off totally, is that on the description writes "Free High Speed Internet" inside the room, And there was NO SIGNAL AT ALL. So I had to be at the main lobby with more than 30 other people, +20 children without wifi at their rooms also, trying to find connection. I came here for business + vacation and it was impossible to work from my laptop, because of the loudness at the lobby.
Off course the wifi on the lobby was awful and disconnecting you 100 times.
And because i had to many hours in the lobby, i can say that it was extremely poor, uncomfortable and the music, playing techno, dance, or the Eminem Encore Album, wasn't so pleasant. I was 6 nights at this place and i am not gonna mention it. I would love to give -1 points.

Stayed here for 3 nights in September as part of a package with a well known UK operator catering for the over 50's. On arrival the place was empty and cold, devoid of any semblance of warm welcome. The rooms allocated all looked out over very large Fir trees which are no more than twenty feet from the rooms and obscure any view completely. Even though it was sunny and warm outside the room felt cold as little sun penetrated the dense trees. Building work was going on for the duration of our stay with continual noise from 0700 to 2100 hours.
Food consisted of very poor quality buffet style evening meals with poor choice and a number of our group suffered from sickness or diarrhoea The price of drinks was exorbitant by local standards and consequently the bar was a dead and devoid of humanity after dinner. .
For elderely guests the hotel is hardly ideal with many steps leading either up to the main entrance or through a number of cold corridors with steep steps through to the dining room.
Hot water was not always available and if we had chosen to use the SPA or pool we would be expected to pay 20 euros per person extra.
All in all a hotel to avoid like the plague
