We hugely enjoyed our three nights in a little cottage at Agua d’Alte. The rooms were charming with simple, but elegant decoration - and it was great to have our own space. The pool was lovely and the never too crowded given the property has only a small number of rooms. We ate in every evening and although the menu is very basic, it was very tasty. A great base to explore the surrounding countryside before retreating to the pool when the weather gets too hot!

This is the lowest rate I’ve ever used. I spent 3 nights here with my husband. The location and conditions of Água d’Alte are very good but it seems there is no one running the business. D. Rosa does an amazing job but there’s only so much one person can do. The best pro was the massage in the spa area. The biggest cons were the almost inexistent internet connection and the lack of attention to the client/shortage of staff (this is peak season and there was basically no one at the reception desk, imagine the rest of the hotel). If you want a snack or light meal at lunch time (in a specific time frame) you have to order it during the morning, so D. Rosa makes it for you. The same for a light dinner (there aren’t any “full” meals at any hour). Breakfast is barely enough and average quality. To replace online activities, there are some board games and dvds, which are stored in the reception area and breakfast room, and get locked away somewhere around 9pm (so you can’t access them and kill some time before going to bed, for example). Prices are through the roof.

Dear guest I have read very carefully your score and comments regarding your stay and it sincerely left us, all the people who work here, very disappointed. Not because of the high score we got on Tripavisor, built by our visitors and comments, and certainly not because some customers (only very few) did not like our accommodation or service, for any fact or situation that went wrong or less well. In fact, these few comments have been fair and have always served to improve some procedures in our Organization. Our disappointment concerns these situations: The first situation has to do with the fact that we are a Rural Tourism unit (7-bedroom country house) and not a Hotel, as you say, where you are certainly expecting a certain type and service / infrastructure that we do not have. It is the case that we do not have (nor would that make any sense) personnel allocated at the "Reception" for 24 hours. Reception (where we have games for children) is closed at 22.30 for security reasons. During the day this space is used for check-ins or check-outs or when we need to give client specific information related to some programs or activities. Contrary to what you mentionned, the breakfast room is open 24 hours a day, so guests can use it at any time of day or night, whether to watch TV or to read a book from our library. As a country house, it is also the case that we do not have a restaurant, (as in most hotels), although we serve our guests, in addition to breakfast (the only meal that is served in most of tourism accommodations), light lunches (various salads, burgers, wraps etc) and light dinners (Tapas and snacks) between the months of operation of the pool. We also serve year-round dinners (daily 3-course menu), under reservation the day before or before check-in date, which did not occur.  And we certainly have schedules for all these main meals of the day, as it happens in any accommodation, be it an hotel or other type of accommodation. For lunch, served until 3.30 pm, it is suggested to the client to choose the menu until 13:00 to fulfill the desired lunch time, especially in the high season. When considering the breakfast "average", we only have to respect your opinion, although this meal is considered one of the strong points by the vast majority of our customers. But, as I said, this is an opinion and as such we only have to respect. We regret however that it was not more specific, so we could make improvements to it, as we believe that constructive criticism is one of the most valuable imputs to improve our service. Similarly, when referring to lack of service it would help if you had told us something more specific to improve it. Rosa, an excellent employee in fact, is however just one of the members of our staff, who was during your stay in breakfast and lunch service, supported by others in "back office" and kitchen. You are absolutely right and we apology for that when you say that we have a weak internet. In fact, despite a good internal wifi network, we find ourselves in a region without fiber and with very low speed internet. For this reason and especially when there are many guests staying, it is very slow. Regrettably, we can do nothing in this regard to improve as no Network Operator intends to invest in fiber in this area as in others in Alentejo, despite numerous urges from the Economic Agents ourselves included. Finally, when you mention that it seems that no one is running the business, I will not comment, as they concern me. What I can assure you is that since I acquired this property 7 years ago and work in it as a manager, I have always done my best, I have always been picky with whom I work and these people, whom I am very proud of, have always been doing very well service to our customers. It is no coincidence that we have a Tripadvisor score of 4.5 / 5 and that on Booking.com (largest booking site) our reviewers are given a score of 9.5 / 10. For healthy reasons I could not met during your stay, despite I was in Agua D'Alte. It is hard to achieve a good reputation. It reflects a lot of work, dedication and delivery by an entire Team. Low scores can destroy a good reputation. Has yours been fair? ... With all respect and best regards, Cristina Costa (owner & Manager)

Agua d'Alte is a wonderful country lodge, very well appointed, cosy and very confortable. The suroundings are superb and you can admire them when relaxing at the gorgeous swimming pool. It is ideally located for visiting Alentejo, very close to Estremoz right at the Serra d'Ossa. The restaurant is very nice, fresh and home made food from Alentejo. All was excellent.

We found this place for a long weekend hiking trip. The place is very tastefully designed with a lounge, eating area, pool barn and beautiful gardens. Unfortunately we experienced bad weather and could not enjoy all the facilities but the location provided for a change of plan! the hotel is situated between Redondo and Estremoz, an Alantejo wine region so we decided to visit some vineyards instead!

We went during Easter to this great Country House. Three days and nights very relaxing where we had the best slipping nights I remember for long time. The house, rooms and surroundings are very well decorated. Lots of charm and cosy at same time. Extremely kind staff always there for you to help you with all your needs. We only had one meal at the house, but the breakfast is really great. Mrs Rosa and Maria João are extremely kind . We expect to comeback near summer with all family.

Idyllic location very close to Redondo Fabulously decorated place with fantastic service and frienship Very comfortable rooms, but the best is to enjoy dinner by the pool in a deep Alentejo with all the refinements of the true Alentejo tradition. A place that should be visited.

We warmly recommend this place to people who are seeking for relaxation and silence. The reception by the owner was warm, she gave great recommendation (restaurant in Estremoz, nautical activities and cute shops in Montaraz). As we were the only guets on 2 of the 3 days, breakfast was served privately on or own terrasse (thank you, Rosa and João!). The last night we could enjoy a romantic dinner at the pool lounge. Thanks to Rosa, we've had one of the best cod fish meals ever!!

We spent five nights at Agua D'Alte in early December, and our stay was fabulous! Cristina, Mary and Rosa were delightful. Cristina helped plan and book our activities, Mary cooked our breakfasts and sweets, and Rosa cooked a delicious dinner. We highly recommend the dinner option, as it was delicious and representative of the region. The rooms were spacious, clean, and comfortable, complete with lovely patios. The grounds are expansive and designed to help you relax. Do yourself a favor... stay here, and leave yourself time to fully enjoy the B&B. Be sure to walk to the Anta Da Candeeria (dolmen) nearby, especially at sunrise. It's a beautiful and peaceful spot.

Very well located for visiting Estremoz, Evora, Monsaraz and many wineries and oak forests. Romantic pool(house). Cosy breakfast room. However, we didn't like the family room because of its small size ( officially 45 sq m ). Nice hacienda style main square. Very well maintained property and garden. Some very good dining options nearby ( O Chana de Bernardino, Convento Sao Paolo ). The double bed was rather narrow.

Dear Guest, Thank you for your review about us and we are pleased to know that you found the "Herdade" well located, romantic and cosy. The 2 double rooms that compose the Family Room are not as large as our suites indeed, but they fit quite well for a couple and 2 children. At least that's the opinion of the general of our clients. But we respect obviously your opinion… Best regards Cristina Silva e Costa
