This was a delight. Just 25 minutes from Evora. We booked a walking tour through the estate's wild cork forest, and it was even better than we'd hoped. A beautiful place with nice views, the family's dogs walked along with us, our guide Jose was terrific -- knowledgeable, friendly and fun to spend time with. We miss him! They also have rooms to stay. We'll do that next time we visit this part of Portugal.
We visited Herdade da Margoteira and couldn’t asked for a better stay. The pool was fabulous on a hot afternoon An amazing dinner in town Our cabin was lovely , everything you need. Breakfast arrived next morning in a basket Then we went on the cork tour. Our guide was so informative! It was amazing. We learned so much The cork trees are just beautiful The vineyards. The acorn trees and the pugs that come to eat the acorns So much fun. Thank you guys !
The guide explained the process for caring for cork trees and the process of harvesting. We also saw the cattle and the vineyards. Lunch was provided in the shed set aside for this. It was a four course meal.
We came for the cork forest tour and it was a 5* experience. The guide explains everything, if you're professional you can learn a lot about it, even you're tourist like me you still learn a lot. The most amazing part is driving through the forest on the Land Rover!!!
Our guide walked us through the cork "orchard" of ancient trees and beautiful spring flowers. The dogs came along too for the fun of it. Our guide was an expert in history of the region back to Roman times and on the culture and conservation harvesting of the cork oak trees. We also the young vineyard they have started to great acclaim. An idyllic visit altogether.
