This is another Pousada which has been creatively converted this time in the remains of a Moorish castle. The imaginative integration of the ancient and modern in the architecture is superb, especially the concept of rooms within rooms where space and history are echoed. The remaining castle walls shield a shady garden (complete with oak cork tree) and house a...

Castle from the XVI century renovated to become a Pousada in a simple, confortable and pleasant way. Located in the up hill of Alcacer do Sal a nice town were you can have good walks along the river Sado. The rooms of the Pousada are spacious, cozy and with good light. The staff is professional and nice. Good food, good...

We visited this pousada for the last 3 nights of a tour which involved 4 pousadas, all run via the Pestana group. All pousadas seem to have their own Unique Selling Points and this one may have undergone significant restoration but there is no denying that the site has real history as one can discover by visiting the museum that...

Right in the middle of Alcacer do Sol with free parking. Large, well appointed room with small balcony and lovely views. Bit of traffic noise and occasional dog barking with doors open but not enough to disturb our sleep. Many of the original medieval Moorish castle features have been retained making for attractive and interesting interiors. Very good dinner off...

Part of the Pousadas network, formerly state run and now privately operated, Alcácer do Sal is the ideal point for the tired traveller who reached Lisboa after a long flight and picked up a car rental on his way to the Algarve. In less than one hour's drive destination is reached, the property is very quiet, the restaurant has great...

This is an extremely pleasant historic Pousada that has modern interiors with well incorporated features of its past. The rooms are large and comfortable and have small balconies offering great views down towards the town and river. All the staff are very friendly and most attentive and helpful. The food is good, especially the breakfast buffet, and typical local produce...

Unfortunately, by the time they got around to turning this castle into a pousada, it had been sitting out in the weather for over 100 years. All they could salvage was some of the walls, a few pillars and archways. Most of the hotel is modern, so you really don't get the feel of staying in a castle. But it's...

After years of passing through Alcácer do Sal, we finally spent there a night. I have to say the city is charming and has a lot of potential, but on a cold January night there was very little happening in the city. The menu sounded fingerlicking good , very well explained and varied .Both my friend and I ordered the vegetable lasagna , very disappointing , the pasta crust was too hard , the whole thing tasted rather sweet and with a cinnamon flavour , will not return .The waiter though was charming.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Pousada de Alcacer do Sal opened in 1998, is found in the medieval style castle, a hotel of truly luxurious design. This new project was drawn from the ruins of castle, with 33 rooms and 2 suites. The Alcacer do Sal city, with over 5000 years of history, takes us to the end of the Neolith period, one of the main Atlantic costal ports in the south of the Tagus. Throughout the whole city we come across many remnants of the Phoenician, Arab and even Roman culture. The Pousada de Alcacer do Sal has a panoramic view over the Sado River which runs through a vast green valley. Distinguishing characters reside at Pousada which makes it very desirable. The rooms are spacious, delicately decorated with warm colours and wooden furniture offering the guests an experience of the fact that it is actually a castle with a lot of history. Guests can take part in a variety of activities just outside the Pousada de Alcacer do Sal, such as canoeing, fishing, hiking and horse-riding. Alcacer do Sal's railway station is 2.5 Km from the Inn itself and the city of Setubal is a mere 45 minute car ride away. The Pousada defers a parking lot on site. ... more   less
