Detailed Reviews
The hotel has the perfect location and the perfect decoration. It has access to its own waterfront and this means that you can swim anytime to their super clean waters without having to use a car or move to a sandy beach. The hotel is also very close to the historic city-center (5-min walking distance). So what more can one ask? Last but not least the staff (Ms Elpida and others) were so discreet and professional and made us all feel so welcome.

We loved everything about the hotel. The incredibly friendly and receptive staff, the beautiful architecture and the location right on the waterfront. We swam in the sea off the bathing platform everyday. The water is incredibly clear and there is a good variety of colourful fish to see. From the moment we arrived for our 3 night stay we were treated like friends. A food platter and a bottle of local wine was provided as a gift to celebrate my wife's birthday. They have a good cellar with many varied Greek wines. We so enjoyed the birthday gift we spent our last night enjoying more food platters and wine on our expansive roof top balcony which had a great view over the sea and also of Hermoupolis itself. Our room was at the top of the hotel which we loved. The hotel organised a hire car for us one day and we drove around the beautiful island of Syros and went swimming at a lovely beach on the SW Coast. Breakfast menu had more than you would require with lovely yoghurts, breads, eggs done many ways and great coffee and fresh orange juice. There is even a small gym, large enough for me to do some HiiT routines while look out at the sea. As others have said it is close to everything, a 10 min walk from the ferry terminal and literally 2 minutes to countless restaurants, bars and shops. We were sad to leave.

My sea-facing room was large, light, airy, well equipped, clean and very comfortable. It had a big, well furnished private terrace overlooking the sea and the port. The location just off the pedestrian area of Ermoupoli is quiet but close to all town amenities. The staff were consistently helpful and friendly but knew when to leave me in peace. The included breakfast was outstanding. Only snag: at the time of my visit no other meals were available.

The hotel is very elegantly appointed and comfortable. Breakfast is made to order and there are numerous choices. The quality is excellent. However, what most impressed us was the attentive service. Checkout is 11am but our ferry was only leaving at 7pm so they kept our bag, invited us to use their loungers by the sea and brought us cold water without our asking. Later when we returned to the hotel to make a phone call in their lounge they brought more water. Yes, small things but that is what makes a hotel a step above.

Hotel Ploes is absolutely beautiful. Upon arriving, we were welcomed with local sweets and liqueur, with a great overview of the property and things to do on the island. The room was absolutely beautiful; one of my favorites that we stayed in while on our trip. Their attention to detail was incredible.
The terrace was beautiful and we loved having a drink out there before heading out to dinner. The swim platform was also amazing, very unique but wonderfully set up and some of the best views ever.
My only recommendation is to request a room with privacy / on one of the higher floors. Ours was right on the terrace on the lower floor (our window literally shared a wall with the terrace), and you had to walk by our door to get to the restaurant. The noise canceling curtains helped, but the location did feel a bit odd. Overall I would absolutely stay here again, it is such a beautiful hotel. I can see why it is the top rated hotel on Syros!

This beautifully restored 19th century mansion has more comforts than home. The rooms are beautifully decorated. Our room had windows on the ocean, high carved ceilings, and a bathroom larger than some hotel rooms. The bathroom had a huge shower with non-streak glass, a mammoth tub, and nice fixtures throughout. The bed was incredibly comfortable for our week-long stay. The service was the best that I have had anywhere. Iota, the concierge, was attentive to every need. She made excellent restaurant suggestions and arranged all of the reservations. The hotel owner spoke with us every day and made us feel like we were treasured guests in her home. The college student breakfast server was wonderful and friendly. Each day when we came downstairs for breakfast, she would show us to our table and quickly bring our favorite coffee beverage, which she remembered after the first day. Breakfast is served until 1 p.m. and there was a wide variety of delicious dishes to try. Most days breakfast was served in an elegant parlor. The last two days of our stay it became warm enough to have breakfast outdoors on the sunny terrace overlooking the ocean. Housekeeping was terrific. The rooms were immaculate and the staff waited until they knew people were away to refresh the room every day. This hotel is walking distance from the ferry port in Ermoupoli. It's in the Vaporia district of town with old mansions, churches and streets paved with marble. The streets are narrow with many pedestrians and our preference was to walk there and leave the car near the port.

This small but grand hotel is just simply exquisite. The decoration in the communal areas and in the bedroom was perfect in style and interest and the art work was challenging to the eye. So much to see and admire. Added to this the cafe/restaurant was a great place to relax with beautiful views over the sea. Because of the wind we couldn't use the terrace but at the right time of year it must be a perfect place to chill out. Added to all this the owner and her staff are friendly, helpful and went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable and cared for. It was a memorable visit to the island and one we hope to repeat one day. One can only say, "Thank you."

An old building restored and remodeled with a great collection of old furniture and eclectic contemporary art. The rooms are very spacious, with especially high ceilings, wonderful beds, and well-appointed marble bathrooms. They have done a superb job with the place; they have spent good money to use top materials and great craftsmen to get excellent results in every aspect of the private and public spaces of the hotel. Even a nice library with scores of books about travel, art, and history. Yet, what makes the place unique is the owners and the staff. Friendly, courteous, knowledgeable, generous, omni-present when one wants them, but also providing privacy and quiet. We were treated like friends by our generous hosts. The little staircase that gets onto a nice small platform to jump into the clean waters of the bay is an amazing addition, if one wants to wake up with a quick swim before breakfast. I forgot about the breakfast. Superb. Amazing recipes, great flavours, top local ingredients. I can’t say enough about the place. We are most certainly going back.

The island of Syros is lovely but made even more special by our stay at the hotel Ploes. The location is perfect, right in the town and you can walk to restaurants, shopping and even the swim platform/beach bar in minutes. The hotel itself is a charming, elegant villa decorated with beautiful antiques and carefully chosen artwork. Our room was spacious with all the amenities you need. The daily breakfast is a dream come true, served in the cozy outdoor terrace overlooking the sea. The fresh food and delicious coffee is served by the most wonderful staff and makes you think you need not leave the hotel.-ever! We cannot wait to go back!

On the occasion of our daughter's wedding we booked all the magnificent rooms of the hotel and we celebrated after-wedding at the dining-room. We are absolutely satisfied with everything: every detail of the decoration, politeness, excellent service, caring stuff, delicious breakfast etc, etc, etc. We really appreciated their efforts to make our stay unforgettable
