It is a very great hotel with awasome animators who made a great program every single night. There is aqua gym, volleyball, water polo, tennis and yoga as well. Probably the food was the best part of our holiday. It was delicious and Everybody could eat as much as he wants.

We loved this hotel from the very first visit we've made in 2018, the staff is very friendly and lovely, the rooms are always clean and tidied up. Food and especially the local fruit they offer is fantastic. We really recommend visiting this hotel as it has been joyful for us to be there.

Location: The hotel is located about a 1 hour coach ride from airport. It is located right at the end of the Malia strip so only a 1 or 2 minute walk to shops and restaurants. Hotel: The hotel itself has plenty of open space and doesn’t feel cramped. There are 2 pools, one which is a salt water pool. It’s beyond anything we’ve seen before and it was so lovely and spacious. The bar is located right beside the pool and the bar staff was always very nice. Especially Eleftheria who remembered our drink order and would start preparing the drinks before we even approached the bar. It was very thoughtful and got us back in the sun quicker. Rooms: The rooms are outdated however they were clean and tidy and no defects. The water pressure was AMAZING. There is AC and a mini fridge. Food: The food was nice. There was quite a bit of variety and every evening there was a different theme. You can tell that a lot of thought and effort goes into the food. The waiters were very nice and helpful and the maitre d’ would guide you to your table on a busy night. He was always very nice and helpful. Entertainment: The entertainment staff were so kind and nice. They really enjoy their job and it shows and they put so much effort into their performances every evening. I have to mention in particular Frederica (who remembered our names and was very nice to chat to her. she is the creative director and was very involved in almost all activities), Alba, Mateo, Theo, Cassian and Christian. Overall, We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend to others.

Dessole Malia Beach hotel using “On the beach” We had a very enjoyable stay at the dessole Malia beach hotel. Like any hotel it has things it does well and things it could do better. I’m going to try and be as unbiased as possible so fellow holiday makers and travellers can make the best choice for their own needs. Personally we struggled to find information about certain things prior to our stay so I’m taking this opportunity to give you a fellow review reader as much information both about the hotel and the surrounding area as I can, so you will be better informed if you decide to stay here. It’s going to be quite a long one so be prepared for a bit of a read. Firstly the transfer from the airport is about an hour and half, the Dessole Malia beach hotel is one of the furthest east from the airport and the bus makes at least a dozen stops before you get dropped off. The coach drivers are generally very efficient skilled drivers and polite. They will take your bags from the side of the coach and place them in the luggage hold in the order they have to take them off in so let them do it. The coaches themselves are quite luxurious and very comfortable, some have a toilet but some don’t so I would suggest using the loo and getting a drink in the airport before you board if you aren’t someone who can wait for any reason. All coaches are air conditioned. On arrival at the hotel you get dropped off right outside with about a 10 meter walk into reception, ramps are available if required. Reception staff will check you in, take your “cash” payment for your resort tax, strap on your wrist band for your all inclusive (make sure it’s not too tight, you’ll wear it for the length of your stay) then you’ll be given your room card keys and shown to your room by a member of hotel staff. I gave him a couple of euros for dragging our heavy bags to our room(they almost insist on doing it which is lovely). The rooms are fairly basic but have all you need. The mattress is firm, ask for extra pillows at reception if you need them. The shower is powerful enough to pin you to the wall, don’t use max power, you’ll flood the bathroom. There’s also a hair dryer which does the job. Every room has a small fridge for keeping a few bits in. There’s no tea or coffee making facilities in the room but you can get coffee/tea from the pool bar or restaurant in paper cups for taking back to room. The tv is up to date but don’t expect any English channels except for BBC world news and a couple of music channels. Most of the channels are in German, Italian or Dutch…great if you’re from those countries. The Wi-Fi is good so I’d recommend taking an iPad or tablet for watching Netflix etc. Each room has a nice balcony with a table and chairs/bench for sitting and an airer for hanging out your towels/wet bathing costumes. It would the seem beyond being shown your room it’s down to you to find your way round the rest of the hotel. This hotel needs a concierge. There are some signs but not enough to be helpful when you 1st arrive. Most things are easy to find, but depending on your room location you could easily not go near some of the facilities if you didn’t need them. Basically speaking the front of the hotel has: - [ ] The main pool (salt water, not heated that I could tell) which is not an issue in the heat. The pool is open as long as the life guard is on duty….usually until about 7pm. Randal is a very efficient lifeguard whose English is excellent as he has lived/worked in the UK. He’s a serious guy doing a tough job and doesn’t have much tolerance for young groups of lads misbehaving, so your peaceful sunbathing shouldn’t be disturbed for long if that’s what you’re looking for. - [ ] The main bar with drinks mostly served in plastic for the all inclusive, glass if you choose from the non inclusive drinks menu. They generally have everything within reason. The bar staff are all lovely especially the ever smiling Giorgios. There are lots of tables and chairs around for a relaxing shady drink overlooking the sea. - [ ] The games room and lounge area with video games, pool table, air hockey with toilets at rear - [ ] The hotel beach area has many loungers on it’s fairly narrow but big enough sandy beach. Be aware there are few submerged rocks in the sea though. Make yourself aware of the best places to swim/paddle to avoid a stubbed toe or nasty scratch. If you want a nice sandy rock free swim go 25-50 meters to the left or right of the hotel, just a short walk along the shore line. - [ ] The Taverna restaurant which we did not use, you’re offered a free meal in there once during your stay - [ ] The food hall/restaurant with the all inclusive buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner - [ ] Small shop selling everything from snacks to after sun, all reasonable prices Now the rear of the hotel. If your room is located towards the front you could be forgiven for not knowing anything about it’s facilities or realising it’s there. You will miss out on a few things if you don’t venture up there. - [ ] The rear pool, good size, regular heated chlorine surrounded by lawns and loungers. - [ ] Pool bar, pizza bar, cafe I suppose…always has fresh sandwiches, fruit salad, cakes, pizza slices freshly cooked, hot dogs in rolls (ketchup & mustard is there) - [ ] Tennis court, racquets can be borrowed from reception - [ ] Small putting green/crazy golf type arrangement - [ ] Beach volleyball court - [ ] Children’s play area, with kids club hut and climbing frames etc - [ ] Amphitheater for evening entertainment - [ ] And finally and very importantly the Aegeo Spa, run by the wonderful Michela and her team of Kostas and Sophia. All very experienced and amazing masseur’s. My wife had a massage from Kostas and I an amazing massage from Sophia, a very talented young lady with a clear gift for effective and relaxing massage. Such a Great way to start your vacation in the wonderful relaxing environment that is the Aegeo Spa. Essential oils and unwinding music. Very reasonable prices. You certainly get your money’s worth. There is also an added bonus to using the Spa, getting to know Michela. Michela is a wonderful woman, spiritual, artistic, informative, warm and wealthy of local knowledge. She enhanced our experience of both the hotel and the surrounding area. She is an invaluable asset to the hotel and the economy of Malia. The hotel should be extremely proud to have someone like Michela giving their guests her time and knowledge. She can be found most lunchtimes outside the restaurant/dining hall. Overall the hotel is immaculately clean, the gardens are beautifully kept and it’s in an ideal location away from the town but close enough to everything you could need. The food in the dining hall is plentiful, excellent salads, huge array of fruit, different breads, hot dishes which although slightly bland in flavour to obviously please the most people are filling and with the extra spices/sauces on offer you can make your dinner as tasty as you wish. Many desserts, cakes, ice cream and local pastries. Tea, coffee, local draft beer, wine and soft drinks. You won’t go hungry but we got a little bored with it after about a week and started to eat out more. This was obviously personal choice but generally the food on offer was very good and they offered something different every time we were in there. All you can ask really. If you’re venturing out of the hotel complex, turn right out of the gates and you’ll be heading towards the town of Malia. You’ll pass a supermarket on your right about 5 mins from the hotel which is excellent for all of your needs. On the left there is a souvenir shop which has an excellent selection of Cretan (Crete) gifts, very tasteful and not like some of the tacky rubbish that others offer. Just after that on the left is the Red Lion bar and restaurant….if you’re hungry it’s excellent. Ask for Sophie or Brad, both English and fantastic people to know. (See my other review of this restaurant on trip advisor) As you continue up the street there is a pharmacy Farmakio on the right….DO NOT USE….there’s an older lady in there who is unbelievably rude. Plus it’s very expensive. €7 for paracetamol !! And she’ll try to sell you her homemade moisturiser/cream recipe which apparently cures all…it doesn’t!! Continue on there’s a McDonald’s if you’re desperate…although the restaurants are better value. Opposite Maccy D’s there’s a restaurant/ cocktail bar called Drossia….eat here at least once….it’s absolutely superb. The food is incredible and the cocktails are some of the best I’ve ever tasted. Very comfortable with very courteous and efficient waiting staff. Keep going and you start getting to car rentals, bars and clubs…the only one we used was the Reflex 80’s bar….great fun…Paul the owner was a riot…loved it. Keep going and you end up at a large supermarket & eventually the old town with some nice shops, bus routes and taxis(under the church) Have fun in Malia. It’s worth the visit. Most of the locals speak English by the way but do try out a few Greek words, (please thank you etc) they’ll appreciate it and you’ll find a smile attached almost every time. The people of Malia are lovely. The Dessole Malia beach is a good well run hotel and a great base for exploring the local area. Ps. Very important make sure you visit Potomas beach for a day and make sure you visit the small port town of Sissi harbour. Kalyva taverna at potomas beach is amazing, food is incredible. Plori restaurant at sissi harbour at sunset is also superb. Both are about a €10 euro cab ride from the hotel doorstep and worth every cent.

We spend here very nice holidays. Hotel is in the very nice garden. Rooms are older, but very tidy. Everything clean. On the bed for two, there is only one sheet as a blanket. I have taken my own, it was better. Food - we are very satysfied. Large scale of everything, very tasful, a lot of fruits, vegetables, sweets. Every evening thematical dinner. A lot of meals during the day. Animators are really funny, The best is Cabaret. Beach is small, but really nice, clean, sand and great water.
