I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. It was exceptional. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed by the wonderful staff. We were given a thorough, personal tour and told of the history and philosophy. The room was small with a lower ceiling height which wasn’t pleasant for two taller people with oversized luggage but the bathroom was generous and luxurious. The restaurants were fantastic and well priced. The breakfast was standout, incredible spread. The overall offering is outstanding - pool, gym, common areas, bikes. I would suggest more snacks on offer to guests as there is no in-room dining or nibbles. I would also suggest carefully reviewing the room type you book. I regret not changing rooms as ours was simply not suited to us. The local area is simply stunning, a minimum of three days is a must.

We had expected a Gourmet retreat in special surroundings. The gourmet restaurant was fully booked both nights. The location of the hotel is great and it looked to be special, but the suite could have been in any international hotel anywhere. The Auberge restaurant has good food but no ambience. And it’s not cheap!

We stayed two nights in this beautiful hotel on our way back to the Netherlands. The oasis of serenity actually started when we came through the gate and drove to the Castle via a road through the woods. Upon arrival, we were kindly welcomed by a young man who helped unload our luggage and transfer it to a cargo bike. The receptionist greeted us and asked our names. She asked if we had had a good journey and invited us to a seating area behind the reception desk that felt like a living room. Another employee offered us a freshly cooled drink. After about 10 minutes, a young lady introduced herself as our host and invited us for a little tour around the property. The hotel is divided between the Castle and several outbuildings. In the Castle are rooms and the spa and access to an outdoor pool which is located on the edge of the forest. In the various chambers on the Castle's first floor, you can have a great time with family, friends, or as a couple. If you like old-fashioned games, then you are in the right place. The other rooms are located in the outbuildings, and each room has a terrace with seating. Our host guided us to room 65, which was located in the last building. A beautiful room on the 1st floor, with a very spacious bathroom equipped with a separate shower and bath, plenty of closet space, a cozy sitting area, a king size+ bed, and a separate toilet. From our balcony, we looked out over the countryside. You can use the free bicycles at the reception as a guest, and the hotel has several charging points for electric cars. The hotel has two restaurants, of which Le Favori has been awarded a Michelin star. We had already booked Le Favori in advance because it has a limited number of tables. In the morning, a delicious breakfast buffet was waiting for us in L'Auberge. The coffee was made fresh. We could order all kinds of egg dishes, and there were several kinds of freshly baked bread, plenty of toppings, and delicious fruit ready. We had two beautiful days in an oasis of peace, hospitality, and above all, in the middle of nature. All the staff is friendly. I can describe much more, but you really have to experience it yourself. Everything, but then also everything was perfect. Thanks for your hospitality, and until the next time.

We stayed here for 3 days looking for a quiet spa-level experience. we got anything but. The rooms all need a re-do, they are sort of shabby and old looking. the property is actually quite small and claustrophobic . the houses/rooms are very near to each other and some overlook the large parking lot. the place is just very noisy and very un-spa like. there are many famlies with lots of kids, the kids run amok, in the dining room, at breakfast, it is just frenetic. i spent the good part of the day at the spa, treatments are pretty good. next to the spa is an indoor heated pool. it is a spa -type setting. the entire time i was in the treatment room, a group of what appeared to be drunk adults were SCREAMING in the pool, pushing each other in and just speaking in loud yelling voices the entire time. all of this can be heard throughout the entire spa. when i left the receptionist apologized a lot but never took any action to stop it. it was ridiculous, sort of like being on Coney Island in August. if you are looking for an adult, peaceful tranquil experience this is not the place for you. the whole experience was forgettable and completely lacking in charm. it is sort of like a cheap, for large family ski house in some random town in vermont . it was just all very common, nothing special at all. the ads are deceiving. the restaurants were beyond mediocre and absolutely lacking in grace or charm.

Response from L'équipe des Sources, Propriétaire at Les Sources de Cheverny

Dear guest, We thank you for sharing your experience on Tripadvisor Page. We are delighted to read that you appreciated the spa treatments. On the other hand, we are sorry that your stay with us did not meet your expectations and that you did not enjoy the design of your room : the hotel was designed to tell a story. We carefully selected antique furniture with noble fabrics to offer the most refined and cosy atmosphere possible. Regarding the restaurants, please note that we offer 2 options tailored to your needs : the country-inn L’Auberge, friendly, authentic and good-natured restaurant ; and Le Favori, a 1-Michelin star gourmet restaurant. We believe that our menu selection is large enough to please most pallets but also limited enough to guarantee product freshness and avoid food waste. We would like to apologize for the inconvenience you encountered during your stay, we strive to deliver the best experience possible to our guests, so your feedback is much appreciated. Despite the elements you mentioned above, we truly hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back. Sincerely, Les Sources de Cheverny

On first arrival everything looked very promising. However there was no welcome fruit basket or condiment in our room. A small touch but important non the less. Dinner in L’Auberge was such a disappointment. All the starters were cold - in-fact straight from the fridge which made them far too cold to taste the flavours. My main fish course was ok but no colour and bland to taste. My husband’s beef was very tough and flavourless and overpowered by the bbq sauce. The staff seemed non-plussed and unsure what to do. Everything was overpriced with one bottle of water at €8 and each glass of wine €15/glass. After that we decided to eat out for the remainder of our stay including breakfast as we had lost all trust in the kitchen. We have stayed in similar concept hotels in the UK - The Newt and Soho Farmhouse which both offer complimentary group yoga, use of the gym and indoor pool without having to book a spa treatment which was required here too - it should have been included in our room rate. However our room was comfortable and spacious although the rug had stains all over it and the bath was acrylic. The outdoor pool looked gorgeous although didn't open until 9.15! I swim early most mornings at home before breakfast and luckily the reception staff made an exception for me )although the hot tub was still closed). Surely these facilities should be available from 7.00 am for early risers? The resort is a unique concept with a mix of beautiful old and newly constructed buildings in a woodland setting but the low maintenance/wild flower meadow landscaping has rather reverted to docks and thistles which isn’t a great look. It has all the ingredients to be a fantastic boutique hotel but needs some tweaking and major changes in L’Auberge.

We had the pleasure of spending two nights at this super charming property, using it as the base for our visits to Chambord and Chenonceau, as well as local Cheverny. The property is lovingly set up and very well maintained, with great attention to detail. The rooms in the Manor house provide a great blend of modern amenities and old world style, with the only draw-back potentially being a lack of wardrobe space for two people with too much luggage ;). The staff is very friendly and attentive and both restaurants go out of their way to accommodate dietary needs and personal preferences. The food, incidentally, is very very good. We had diner both at L’Auberge and Le Favori — each a great experience in its own right. Should we come back to the area, we’ll make sure to visit, again.

We had booked 2 nights in the Sources de Cheverny expecting a couple of relaxing and pleasant days. We were extremely disappointed. Room: We had booked a larger 'en suite' room as a family of 3 (with a 4 year old son) on the recommendation of the Sources de Cheverny. When we arrived, the room escribed as 'junior suite' was in fact a slightly larger room than the basic room, with the result that from 8pm, when we put our son to bed, we were sat in the dark, unable to switch a light on without disturbing him. Given that we had paid circa €500 per night for a comfortable room, it felt like a complete farce. I address this further below. Restaurant: we dined at l'Auberge on our first night. The food was distinctintly average and disproportionately expensive when compared to other local and better eateries. We decided we would not try it a second night or go to the other restaurant. Honesty Bar: the ironically-named honesty bar in the communal area was anything but. On offer was a basic coffee capsule for a guest to insert into the machine themselves, for 5 Euros. We rummaged around for the pieces of the games that were on offer in the game room but could not find a complete set. Extras: note that everything is charged in addition to the room - breakfast, access to the spa etc...so in addition to the overpriced room, you should expect to have to fork out at every turn. Service: while most of the staff was perfectly kind and polite, the management was unbelievably rude and unhelpful. After having spent a few hours after 8pm in the darkness of our room (that they had recommended as appropriate for a 3-person family), I went to reception to ask if we could cancel the second night and leave as it obviously did not correspond to our expectations. I was told that this was not possible and that I could either stay and pay the extra 500 euros for the second night or leave and pay the extra 500 euros for the second night without using it. When I explained that we were really unhappy with our room and the experience of the hotel generally and just wanted to leave, I was told that I could upgrade to another room for an additional 100 euros. The night manager eventually called the manager and came back explaining that "il est plus gentil que moi" i.e. he was kinder than she was because they would upgrade our room for no additional charge. The condescension was remarkable. The room we were given for the second night was more appropriate for a family of 3, but by then our stay had been ruined. Overall: we were left with the distinct feeling that the Source was entirely geared at squeezing every penny out of customers rather than ensuring a pleasant and enjoyable experience. It falls far below the standards of other hotels in that price range and we will never return. I should add that I have been hesitant to post this review as I have never posted a negative review before on any of our trips, but the feeling of being taken for a ride prevailed in this case.
