New Castle in Ratboř was built by famous czech architect Jan Kotěra between 1911 and 1913 for owners of local sugar refinery, family Mandelík. Today it's an elegant boutique hotel with renowned restaurant. The kind of place, where you will gladly come back again. In Chateau Kotěra you can choose from 19 rooms in the castle building, which we furnished with originals and also with replicas of cubist and modernist furniture or from 17 modern hotel rooms in Orangery (20 M from main building). Try our kitchen with a touch of south in our restaurant with elegant interiors and attentive service. You can choose from the main menu, seasonal specialties, or a customized offer for groups.

Detailed Reviews
I stayed here recently while on Business. When I arrived i was a little taken back by the poor driveway into the hotel and feared the worst. However when I entered reception it was clear this was a very special building. Reception check in was efficient and friendly. We ere put in the rooms outside of the actual hotel in the Orangery. The rooms were spacious comfortable and clean. I was surprised to see a see thru glass door on the en-suite which I thought was bizarre and a window from the bed to the toilet which was even more bizarre. The TV was quite dated and only had 5 channels with a poor picture quality The restaurant was excellent and the service from the bar tender was prompt and professional. The food was excellent to say the least and very reasonable in price. The staff here are very helpful and it was a pleasure to stay. The grounds of the Chateau are beautiful. The breakfast is plentiful and varied from hot plates to cold meats and fruits, yogurts etc..
I recommend this Hotel when staying in Kutna Hora.

We spent 3 nights here and can't wait to go back. This is a quiet out of the way hotel but less than 50 mins from Praque. Nice grounds and a lovely pool area gives this a very relaxed atmosphere however the best thing about it is the food, some of the best I've had in a hotel and not too expensive. We would thoroughly recommend this place for couples wanting a romantic escape. The downside is the WiFi is poor but we thought that was an advantage!!

The chateau is beautifully restored and a dream to stay in. (it doesn't offer all the contemporary amenities of a high-end chain hotel, but the aesthetics is well worth it).
The waiters were super polite and friendly, the food was excellent and so was the wine.

We got married at the Chateau on 23.05.2015. Everything was just perfect, the hotel is top class. Both the management and the personnel were so helpful and nothing was too much trouble! It was a Czech/English wedding and their knowledge of English was incredible which meant that everyone felt at home. The food is really high standard using quality homemade ingredients. Everyone at our wedding was overwhelmed by the food. The even flambed pasta in a massive wheel of Parmesan! Everything is decadent and thought through to deliver the best dining experience. The rooms are a individual in their style with abundance of personality. Lots of original features and cubist influence. Overall, this hotel has it all, if you are into decadence, great service, amazing food and characterful surroundings, you will love this place!

Still nice but need to be updated. Good service. Air condition In Orangerie only. Nice swimming pool but not enough sunbeds - only 14 for whole hotel. Nice rooms but not enough towels or shampoons.
Check out at 10 am was very disappointing. You have to ask for later check out, but .max 12.00. Pitty.

This place is really a gem!
After we had spent several days in Prague, we wanted to go to Kutna Hora and see the famous UNESCO sight St. Barbara's Cathedral. We were looking for a special accommodation nearby and discovered this lovely castle built 100 years ago and restored just lately.
The castle is set in a beautiful scenery which is ideal for hiking, cycling or romantic walks. When you enter the premises of the main building, the atmosphere of 1920's and cubism will overwhelm you. The rooms are very spacious and tastefully refurbished. The bathrooms are modern and beds very comfortable.
If you are not interested in architecture and art, the hotel also offers modern standard rooms in a nearby building.
What you can't miss is the restaurant! The local cuisine is the dream! So make sure you'll stay for two or three nights at least so that you can try some of those lovely dishes.
The staff in the whole premises was very friendly and helpful.

To sum up this hotel - divine food but strange rooms.
The hotel is only a 10 minute drive from Kutna Hora and Sedlec, but has the feel of being in the middle of nowhere. It is quite austere looking and appeared deserted when we drove up, however the receptionist was very welcoming and showed us to our room personally.
We stayed in the main house and the rooms are enormous. Unfortunately I think the conversion into a hotel could have been done better. The bathroom was built as a separate 'pod' within the larger room. I can understand the intention may have been to preserve the architectural features of the building, but in doing so the result to me does not work. The remaining portion of the room is very large and the furniture inside looks lost. There was a single wardrobe, one cabinet containing the fridge mini bar and with an old TV on top, a modern bed and a leather sofa, Strangest of all was the antique desk which had a clear 1980's style plastic chair to sit on. The room would rate 3/5 and was overpriced.
Having said all this the meal we had in the restaurant and the breakfast we had the following morning were simply fantastic, In my opinion the 3 course dinner was of Michelin standard and reasonably priced, definitely 5 stars here.
If the hotel management read this my recommendations would be:
Ensure there is information in the rooms about the house, its history and the amenities (sauna, billard table, swimming pool, Kutna Hora, Sedlec etc.)
Provide tea and coffee making facilities in the rooms (it said on Expedia these were available but the receptionist confirmed they were not)
Have an English translation of your own website and put yourself on more hotel sites
Make more of your very excellent restaurant by offering culinary breaks

Unfortunately this old saying “you get what you pay for” fits exactly this hotel. The rooms are cheap, BUT we found animal feces on our 1.5yr old blanket, mattress was very questionable, we are not able to charge the restaurant bill to our room, the rooms were not clean - a lot of dust everywhere. The outdoor pool was full of chlorine. In the garden there were wires sticking from the ground. The hotel needs renovation big time! My suggestion is to get inspired at Chateau Mcely.

I was honestly disappointed from this experience, the hotel is beautiful, I absolutely love the art deco architecture, but rooms are not as great as expected (glass door to bathroom and very dark room). Our room was super noisy, there were very noisy guests doing terrible racket around midnight and then house maids (we assumed) around 7 AM Sunday morning. We wanted to enjoy some alone romantic time with my husband without our 2 year old rascal and were totally disappointed as we were able to get proper sleep due to all the noise, both in the morning and evening. Breakfast was not as great either, pastries did not seem very fresh, but the selection of breakfast buffet was good.

This was our fourth visit in Chateau Kotera and it was surely not our last one. It may be hard to explain but it is one of the places where you somehow fell "good". Literally you can feel the atmosphere of the beggining of 20 century and you can enjoy the peace and quiete of a local parc where you hear just singing birds. During all our visits, staff was simply excellent, in both hotel and restaurant and were one of the reasons why we felt so comfortable.
Some of tips if you decide to visit: We usually visit hotel during the summer in weekdays as there are less people and it is more relaxing. Room 112 is wonderfull and the view to a parc from a bath tube is just amazing. We strongly recommend to visit the restaurant as it is really excellent. If you come during the hot summer days, do not forget to pay a visit to an outside swimming pool.
