Views are to die for. But such a waste of a great location. There were too many things wrong with the hotel, its rooms and restaurant. The view gets 5 stars PLUS. The hotel operation gets negative zero stars

This is a nice looking place high above Ella. Its setting is rather spectacular. The hotel itself, however, lacks character and many design features. The lobby is nice enough, the floor to ceiling glass affording views down the valley. Most of the other public areas are high, white and featureless. You do see areas that need some work, including mold. We put in our dinner orders by 1800 for a 1930 dinner. Too many other things to do to go for a dip in the very invited pool. The room was large. It had a balcony with the rather grand view. A 1.5l bottle of water was very nice. There is no room wifi [just lobby, dining area and pool], an annoyance. Uploading photographs was very slow, a rather general problem in the country. This was the first fully enclose shower. There were toiletries. There was a fan in the room. You need to insert the key for power, delaying charging until late at night. The bar area was unappealing. The drinks menu was quite limited ie just gin and arrack for liquor. The meal at dinner was really good, my deviled [meaning very, very hot and spicy] pork at the upper level of what I can handle. The morning sunrise was good with its orange flairs. There was time for a room search before we left, sunglasses retrieved by staff. For a one night stop, it was fine.

Beautiful view, but the hotel was only ok! The breakfast was good, the dinner was ok... Else the hotel is a bit old, but friendly straff and beautiful surrondings! Not much guests at the hotell, it was almost empty..

We had enjoyed 6 nights in 3 different and beautiful deluxe hotels in Sri Lanka before arriving in Ella. Heavens Edge in Ella is also described as deluxe but oh my goodness it is so basic and is certainly NOT deluxe. We had to shout on arrival for someone to check us in. There was no hotel info given not even a time for breakfast or dinner. Parts of the building are unfinished, walls damp and mouldy, water dripping into the bar area. The basin tap in our room was broken with no hot water, the shower was only cool water. There was no working WiFi although we were told it was available. The bed linen was stained and did not smell fresh. The bed was broken and bathroom towels old and tired. The hotel lacks any warmth. In fact it feels cold, uninviting and uncomfortable. A real shame as the view is superb - the only positive this place has unfortunately. I would avoid this hotel !

Hotel Heavens Edge really lives up to its name. Located on a mountaintop, it overlooks the Ella gap – and the views are breathtaking! As soon as you walk in to the lobby, huge windows opens up to an amazing scenery outside. We enjoyed our welcome drink in silence, I think everyone was at a loss for words about the view. There is a really nice pool outside, and in the evening, the lamps in the pool changes colour, a very nice touch. When we were there, we were witnesses to a fire on one side of the Ella Gap, and lightning and thunder on the other side. And right in the middle we were enjoying the pool and the view. It was an experience I will never forget. There is so much nature around the hotel, it´s astonishing. The rooms are large and comfortable, and we had the same “loss for words”-experience when we walked in to our room and saw the view from our terrace. The terraces are very big, so we really enjoyed the evening there after the kids had gone to bed. We sat there and listened to all the sounds from the nature, breathing the fresh air, just feeling lucky to be there. The beds are huge and very comfortable, and the rooms are clean and modern. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and we had a really good dinner in the restaurant. The staff was freiendly and helpful all the time. There are walking trails in the area, and Ella town is not far away, but we chose to stay in the hotel and just enjoy the views and the lovely surroundings. Getting up in the morning was amazing. I woke up in time for the sunrise, and I was all alone on the terrace, listening to chanting from a nearby temple and watching the sun rise above the mountains. It was magical! My only regret is that we did not stay here longer than we did. I will surely come back!
