We had a wonderful 5 night stay at the Melia. We were in Room 31 which is a one of the 'Romance Ocean Front Pavilions". The room itself is slightly on the small side with a tiny balcony but it looks directly out to sea and is in a secluded location nearer the main hotel than The Level facilities. We used the Level restaurant for breakfast each morning and ate at the restaurant in the evening a couple of times too. Food and choice was excellent. The Jetty restaurant was a bit disappointing - not a lot of atmosphere but again good food. The Spices restaurant featured a lovely buffet and live entertainment. What made the experience was the genuine friendliness of every single member of staff - whoever is training and motivating your people deserves special praise!
This is truly paradise! I strongly advise the all Premium or the Premium Exclusive to truly enjoy the paradise, otherwise you pay for every other meal. There are 5 restaurants and 4 of them are à la carte with great food. There are 2 pools, a well-equipped gym, sauna and other activities; there is plenty to do and diverse activities at night. The beach is great and the restaurant there is delightful whatever your preference, fish of the day or pizza from the oven. Everyone is friendly and helpful and nothing is overlooked here. The shuttle bus is actually a 7-seater van and they keep time. One word of caution: if you want to visit many places, then consider that it is 40km from Stone Town and this might make trips costly. If you want R&R, this is the best place to be.
My fiancé and I stayed for 4 nights and five days at the Melia in Zanzibar and let me tell you it was fabulous! We chose the level club villa experience( Mwezi) and it did not disappoint. The property was absolutely stunning and so was the service from beginning to end. ALL of the wait staff, level reception staff and our villa manager, Benson were so attentive and awesome! The food was exceptionally fresh and delicious all day to include the many time we ordered room service! Thanks to everyone who made our stay comfortable, welcoming and phenomenal! Many thanks to Ali at the level reception for accommodating our late night flight on our last day! We truly cannot wait to return!
Beautiful hotel with excellent staff. The choice and quality of food was fantastic. Really enjoyed the little bus that takes you to the beach - and how friendly all the staff were as you moved around the resort. I would highly recommend this hotel for staff alone. I think they could do with a pay raise or perhaps a pension scheme. We are still awaiting a refund after a mix up with our holiday company but the reception staff did their best to sort it out while we were there and were very helpful. We stayed in the main hotel (not The Level) and I would say that the rooms could do with a bit of an update especially the semi-opaque toilet doors which are a terrible idea. The restaurants, pool and beach were all beautiful as was the reception area and bar. Everywhere was very well kept and I really enjoyed spending time there. The 10am yoga was really good as was the trip to the local school and village (although you do get pushed into going to all the shops)…
Summary: Stayed 6 days on our honeymood (july 31 -aug 6), The Level beachfront room. Stay had a bumpy start but we were sad to leave by the end and would definitely recommend visiting this location. Details: - room: *Pro: very spacious and well decorated. Balcony facing beach was lovely plus. close to beach and pool and easy access to golf buggy * cons: when we arrived the shower was insanely backed up, within minutes it was spilling on to the floow and it took the maintenence team 45 minutes to come fix it but no issues after that. The bathroom also had a very very strong sulfur and damp smell that hung around the entire time - i think this was the case for the hotel generally speaking, might be island plumbing or something. we didnt let it bother us too much past the first day. - Food: *Pros: Definitely visit these restraurants: The Levels, Spice, Jetty, and Pool bar. The levels dinner was delicious but would've liked to see a rotating menu (something similiar to jetty lunch), Spice was our favorite place for breakfast and had a lovely dinners we found the food to be really and nice were surpised to see reviews here that say it wasn't good. They do a rotating theme for the dinners (Swahili night, indian night, asian night, etc). The Jetty was 10/10 for lunch and dinnner, the lunch menu rotates by day but the dinner stays the same but overall the food was really nice. Pool bar was really good for lunch, food/drink by the pool (chicken burger was our favorite and the virgin pina colada). We ordered room service twice and were really impressed by how good it was! *cons: Aqua is open sun & thursday only so it was the first place we ate at as we had arrived sunday evening - not good, we were not impressed and worried that we had been sucked into a classic all inclusive hotel with mediocre food (obviously that changed, see 'pros' above') . Team has a lot of opportunity with this restaurant and could really make it better. the only good dish was my surf and turf main but everything else from starters, desserts and the other main options were barely a 1/10. Other comment I have is that as we had paid a premium for the Levels, we would've expected better breakfast options and quality at The levels restaurant - the breakfast didnt taste fresh and once we went to Spice for the breakfast, we didnt go back to the levels. Spice was way better in quality/freshness/variety. Gabi beach restaurant was ok - nothing impressive. Spa: We each did a treatment at the spa but were not impressed by the treatments, we both finished with layers and layers of oil on us and the actual massage just felt meh (for lack of better word). maybe we chose the wrong one (relaxation massage) but we also didnt go back for other options after the first one. They do have their own pool which is quiet and the gym was really nice. Activities: We opted to do our activities/excersions with an external company as the hotel was charging way more (nothing new and expected this) but in terms of stuff to do at the hotel we were impressed by how many games and stuff where on site. Not to mention the staff was also super friendly - i saw them make an effort to play boardgames/foozeball/ping pong/darts with the kids & the adults. They even make an effort to come and tell us about all the activities going on at the hotel in the upcoming days (swahili classes, village tours, yoga, etc). We essentially spent our days by the pool lounging and playing games, it was really nice.…
Pros: - Very nice, very large area that hotel uses. - Absolutely no hygienic issues (which is a problem in Zanzibar). - Very large rooms, nevertheless which option You choose. - Extremely helpful staff. - Tasty food at the Jetty restaurant. - Very nice beach. Cons: - This is a 3,5 – 4 star hotel in European category. Definitely, not a 5 star. - The standard rooms are pretty outdated as for 5 stars hotel. - The hotel divides guests into 2 categories: standard and “the Level”. In my opinion, this is not ok and always made me feel “worse” as “the Level” guests had everywhere broader privileges. I can’t imagine who designed such a system… - Breakfast for standard guests – personally, I couldn’t find anything tasty for me. - It’s worth to remember that on this side of the island – it is really windy in comparison to other sides. You should be prepared for a strong wind everyday. - We were travelling in special occasion – informed the hotel about it with advance and the hotel did nothing about it during our whole stay.…
We had a four night stay at the Melia Zanzibar at the end of a long, 12-day safari and it was the perfect, relaxing way to end our holiday. It's a beautiful hotel set in very extensive, nicely landscaped and perfectly manicured, gardens with fab views out over the Indian Ocean. Food in the main restaurant, The Spice Market, is buffet-style, with a very good variety of both hot and cold options on offer, while the Jetty restaurant, sited at the end of a pier out into the Indian Ocean, offers table service. The food in both is very good and the service is both efficient and very friendly. We had a garden view room which was sited not far from the reception and the main pool (there's a second pool near the gym and spa). The room was very spacious with a bedroom large enough to house a large four-poster bed, table and chair, a separate dressing area and a separate and, again, very spacious bathroom with both indoor and outdoor shower. Complimentary bathrobes and slippers were provided. Our departure was late on the final day but reception were able to arrange a late check-out so we could keep the room until 7 p.m. This is obviously dependent on whether the room's available and is a paid service but was worth every penny as we could freshen up before starting our journey home. This was intended to be a four-night chillout after a long safari in mainland Tanzania and it didn't disappoint as we were very comfortable and were very well looked after by all the staff, who were fab.…
Told we would receive a late checkout and no mention of incurring any fees, only to be charged for lunch despite no mention of this not being included. When we disputed this, we were told it would be waived as it wasn't the correct thing to do. When we left the hotel, I received an email to say we had to be charged for the lunch as it was policy. Totally wrong that they charged my card after I left without my consent and after initially agreeing that we shouldn't have been charged. Spent around £5k here to stay for a week of all inclusive. Staff shouldn't say one thing and do another. Our stay was actually pleasant, but this experience at checkout ruined it all.
This is a beautiful hotel with excellent facilities and amazing staff. We stayed for a week in 3 rooms (2 garden terrace, 1 sea view terrace). These rooms are spacious, with dressing areas and a bathroom that is as big as the bedroom. It had two showers, two sinks and a double ended bath and separate toilet cubicle within the bathroom. Fluffy soft towels and bathrobes and slippers were provided, with lovely coconut and lime toiletries. We didn’t upgrade to the Level, despite being there for a week and being a family with 4 adult children (2 gluten free and 2 vegetarians). Everything we had without paying for the Level was fantastic. And if you want a cocktail that is on the Level package - you just pay for the cocktail. The Spice Market buffet restaurant (open for breakfast and dinner every day) is phenomenal. The breakfast is particularly good. These are not normal buffets - there are hot and cold options, a bread table, salad table, a dessert table, pancake/waffle and egg/omelette counters for breakfast, pasta counter at dinner. The staff are super helpful and will do everything they can to get you what you need. The restaurants at the Jetty, the Pool and Gabi beach are all very good, although the first two had slightly limited vegetarian options. The cocktails are amazing and consistent throughout. The grounds, pool and beach are absolutely stunning. There are games - tennis, table tennis, pétanque, darts, pool and table football. The recreation team are really nice and helpful and will play with you if you ask them! Masu and Lillian in the Spice Market and Magdalena on reception all deserve a special mention.…
I could write about the heavenly Gabi beach, the excellent food, the fantastic experience at The Level, room quality, amazing ocean, perfect weather… but the best thing is the people who work there. Lili, Alphonse, Silima etc. Excellent!
