Myself and my husband stayed at Kiwengwa this month. It was a wonderful vacation at a wonderful hotel. We were upgraded to a better room on arrival and we were greeted warmly with welcome drinks. The setting of the hotel is incredible, it’s right on the beach and the beach is absolutely stunning, probably the best setting for a hotel that I have stayed at. The hotel has lots of great facilities and the food at the hotel is cooked to a very good standard. Also on our first night here they set up a private candle lit dinner for myself and my husband on the beach which was amazing. The staff at the hotel are outstanding, nothing was ever too much trouble. They helped us arrange great excursions and always served our food and drinks with a smile. The cleaners also attended the room daily even if we forgot to put the sign for cleaning out. I would definitely recommend this hotel and if we ever come back to Zanzibar we would rebook this hotel.

We attended a wedding at the beach of Kiwengwa Beach Resort. Thank you very much. It was an unforgettable experience.
All the hotel staff were very helpful, nice and polite, although it was not an easy task. 66 people participated in the event, and everything took place on the beach. The dinner prepared especially for us was delicious.
Special thanks to the managers Aied, Ahmed and Nestory who took care of every detail.
In total, we spent 2 weeks at Kiwegwa Beach Resort and we are very pleased.
From cleaning staff, rangers, gardeners, restaurant staff, animators, bartenders to receptionists and management, they all made us feel safe and comfortable.
In addition, the hotel has three swimming pools and of course the beautiful wide beach which is cleaned daily and available sunbeds at a hand.
Nor did you ever wait in any of the three bars to get a drink, even in the evening hours.
Special thanks go to Mr. Nestory - the restaurant manager, who greeted the guests at the meal each time and was always smiling and fulfilled additional our requests.
To sum up: I've been to Africa several times, including Zanzibar, but Kiwengwa Beach Resort is by far the best hotel with the best cuisine and service. I would highly recommend.

This is an identikit hotel, basically you could be anywhere in the world. There is a large concrete wall, forbidding gates and security guards at both the gate and on the beach. Facilities are good, there is an excellent spa; good well equipped gym and two fair sized pools. Two restaurants, the seafood one on the beach is pretty good but the main one is very bland. Two bars, one main one and one Jacuzzi bar at the beach. Rooms are comfortable and spacious, air conditioning is effective and hot water readily available, beds are spacious and comfortable and the staff friendly and helpful. Clientele are predominantly Italian and French and Tui run "Hi di Hi" activities and kids clubs for both nationalities, so there is a beach blast of euro trash music. There are also a fair few Polish and Russian guest, very few Brits while we were there which isn't a problem. It is a nice, well run hotel and for that function it is fine. There are a range of board options from B&B to All inclusive. Here is the plea and I suspect it applies to most of the hotels on the East Coast of Zanzibar as well as a fair few other places worldwide as well. The hotel fronts onto a beautiful silver sand beach. There are, however, not enough proper litter bins. As a consequence a lot of plastic bottles and rubbish is left on the beach (and around the pools for that matter). I had a row with one couple who left three plastic water bottles and used sun cream pot on the sand with no intention of cleaning up. There are no signs in any language about looking after the beach and not leaving litter. There should be, enforced if necessary. There was quite a lot of seaweed washed up on the sand so the hotel staff dug holes in the sand and buried it. No issues if the plastic had been litter picked but it wasn't, so I do have an issue with that. I am unsure what the towel policy is but over 9 days I wouldn't expect to change them more than twice to reduce detergent use, I would expect the facility of a note "please change, or don't change my towels". There isn't one. Same applies to bed linen. Equally a limitation could be applied to beach towels, changing when necessary as opposed to daily. Water is in short supply so watering the sand to make it look pretty is a bit unnecessary. Likewise the Jacuzzi bar, they may have been fun at the time but in a country where water can be scarce this is a profligate waste. All of this is easily fixed and a weekly litter pick of the beach could easily be added to the activities. If it were fixed they would get an excellent rating but if it isn't they will get "0".

Dear Andyfatowl Thank you for taking the time to share your holiday experience with us here at Kiwengwa Beach Resort. We appreciate all of our guests comments both positive and negative as this helps us to improve the quality of service to ensure our guests satisfaction during their stay with us. We are very pleased to hear that you found the facilities at hand good and that you enjoyed some of our leisure facilities including our Spa, gym and our lovely pool areas. Its also great to know that you also enjoyed your comfortable room, our Fish restaurant and that you found the hospitality and service from our team very good. We sincerely appreciate that we could not meet you expectations in some areas during your stay and we sincerely apologise. In regards to the beach and pool areas and our team work very hard in making sure it is kept clean at all times but unfortunately we cannot be held responsible if some guests do not through away their own rubbish and leave it for our members of staff to clean up. We will however pass your recommendation onto the management to look into signage and how to improve this area for the better. In regards to the seaweed washing up on shore this is a natural occurrence and at times it can be more visible due to the season. Our towel and bedding policy is to change as necessary normally every couple of days or at the guests request. We work diligently to provide all of our guests with the facilities to help them enjoy the vacation and to feel relaxed whilst staying within our hotel. We will of course take note of all of your comments which have been well noted and will be reviewed by our management team for future development. We sincerely thank you for choosing to stay with us and we do hope that you have been able to take home some lovely memories of your stay. It would be a pleasure to welcome you back in the not to distant future. Kind Regards Kiwengwa Beach Resort Team

This hotel was by far the worts hotel i have stayed in my life. it really makes you feel like you do not belong, it has an amazing structure but poor cuisine and everything is done for the italian ppl, activities and everything is either in french or italian or both through their partnnership with settemari club and club lokea, really it is an awful place where you will feel completely left out if you are not italian or french. it has amazing staff , and thats it.
also it does not stay at the best place for swimming in the beach
finaly, music is played loudly almost all the time, it really is not a place where you can relax

I would highly recommend Kiwengwa beach resort. Everything was perfect. The room was spacious and the bathroom was neat and tidy. The breakfast had a large variety and the food at the buffet was delicious. The facilities were well kept and enjoyable
The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming, particularly the ones we interacted with, namely Stella, Zabron, Fabian, Harry, chef Lutfi and Faustine.. The general manager and staff were always accommodating to our special request. The animation team provided the best entertainment. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

We spent a beautiful holiday there. We loved the authenticity of the place, the atmosphere, the service. Special thanks belong to the Food & Beverages Manager - Nestory Ezekiel. His communicativeness, friendly approach and professional service on daily basis made the experience wonderful. Our youngest son celebrated his birthday there, so we had asked for a cake. We loved how it was presented! The manager and other staff brought it while dancing and singing a lively African song. It is unforgettable. They did not ask for extra money for the cake and the show, but of course some extra money was well deserved and appreciated.
The resort is well-kept, clean and serviced. The rooms are big and air-conditioned but a little humid because of the climate. We were afraid of the low tide but in the end we didn't mind at all. It was just a few tens of metres. The sea was better with high tide though as there was just white sand beneath you and no seaweed.

Kiwengwa review
We stayed here over the Christmas and NY holidays. Lovely resort suitable for young and old. We had an amazing holiday 😍.
The positives:
The resort looks amazing. Direct access to a pristine white beach. The majority of the staff is awesome, both management and workers. The gardens are beautiful and the pools terrific.
The restaurants offer great variety of food. There is a varied choice of cocktails and mocktails, our favourite was the vodka passion. Talk to the food & beverage manager for great special arrangements for anniversaries and birthdays. We dined on the “I ❤️ Zanzibar” boat which is highly recommended. During the holidays special dining events were organised which were really added value to our trip.
Special shout out to the wonderful ladies that keep the public bathrooms superb throughout the day.
We did the one day safari, which is so worth it if it’s within your budget!
WiFi is quite reliable but not fast. Free at bar and lobby, paid at the rest of the resort for an acceptable rate of 20 USD for two weeks.
Not great:
You cannot leave any valuables in your room. Most days the cleaners leave the sliding door in open position allowing anyone to come in without a key.
We had family room 626 which in fact has no pool view while it’s advertised as such. The rooms were in good condition with a few things broken. In our case the shower door didn’t close and the shower head was pointed to the wall instead of downward, which both wasn’t fixed during our stay.
As all inclusive guests should be invited to both speciality restaurants once during their stay. Although we asked many times we never were invited to the fish restaurant. If you book all inclusive please be aware that espresso and cappuccino are excluded , as well as icecream.
The pool side DJ announces all kinds of “wonderful” activities but each time you try to join with your kids you are denied. Also one animator shouts at your kids and is not able to reason. The pool and beach side animation at this resort is not kids friendly (none existing), avoid Kiwengwa if your family does appreciate that.
Note that the tennis court is painted concrete and not in great condition.
Security guards on the beach keep local people and Masai that try to make a living at distance, you either hate it or love it. We found it quite disrespectful to the locals. As a result as soon as you leave the safe zone everyone jumps on you.
On our last day it appears chemicals (chlorine?) of some sort were added to the pool in too large proportions. All six family members had itchy and burning skin rash where our swim clothes were for multiple days.

Very pleasant and clean resort, wonderful tropical garden, rooms spotless clean with fridge and beds and mosquito nets. Tap water is safe for showering and brushing teeth, drinking water provided in bottles and at the restaurant. Beach is white sand, water pleasant warm and great for swimming, twice a day tide, you need water shoes. Atmosphere is familiar, very friendly, international guests, some with children. We had a great view onto the sea. Food is a mix of African (curries, fish, meat, vegetables, delicious fresh tropical fruit) and Italian (pasta and pizza), restaurant buffet style and casual atmosphere. Trips offered to Tanzania mainland for a safari (strongly recommended), as well as to different other parts of Zanzibar; we enjoyed to visit Stone Town, a spice plantation and Nungwi beach, did not have enough time to also go to the South of the island. Loved buying souvenirs, taking US dollars or Euros in small notes is recommended. Will miss the chitchats with vendors on the beach, they are friendly and live from selling, so don't be annoyed if they approach you. Would recommend also visiting one of the local schools and the village, it will be appreciated if you buy pencils or notebooks for the children. It was our first trip to Africa, would go again to this place and resort without hesitation.

+1
We spent 10 days at this resort in June and we are more than happy with our stay. So many things added to the great experience, such as a beautiful beach, amazing sand. It was never crowded at this time at the beach, by the pools or at the various bars, and sunbeds. Furthermore, if you like serenity, there is a very quiet pool area by the African restaurant and family rooms, the salt water pool by the beach is also quite calm and if you like music, aqua gym, beach volley and water polo, the main pool is the place to hang out by. The animation team there is kind, fun and energetic.
The food was varied, very tasty and the chef even went out of his way to make our favourite dish on our last evening, just for us! The service was always impeccable, during every meal, and always delivered with a smile.
We got a family room, which was spacious and we are very happy with the cleaning and service with towels and water bottles etc. The air conditioning was on even when you left the room, which was a nice surprise. There was never a lack of hot water in the shower. Some mosquitoes in the room, but fewer than we had expected and the mosquito net did its job well.
The whole area is well kept and clean, and should you travel by yourself you can feel perfectly safe here. During our stay there were at least three people travelling alone and they were well taken care of.
One of the best things was absolutely the staff. Resort manager Angela and her whole staff are doing everything they can to make your stay as pleasant and care free as possible. They always greet you with a genuine smile and have a kind word for everyone. We are actually going to miss all the Jambo, Hakuna Matata and Pole Pole from our many new friends at this resort, most of all the staff in the main restaurant.
If you are into snorkelling, we can recommend going out with one of the small, wooden boats that hang by the beach. They take you out to a coral reef nearby and even dive in as a guide and show you various interesting things. It cost us 10 only dollars each.
The only down side was that it became a bit too much at times when locals on the beach wanted to sell things, however they were always kind, though. We could perhaps have been more firm when approached.
Both of us have travelled quite a bit, and we must say that we are incredibly happy with our stay here, and we can recommend it to anyone who wants to experience a paradise beach, good food and meet a lot of kind, friendly and happy go lucky people. So very worth the long trip to get there from Sweden.
Ps. Thank you so much for the Ugali, fried chicken recipy, and most of all the birthday cake and celebration song that you swung together with an hour's notice!
We hope to see you all again some day!
Love, Karin and Michael
