Arriving at this hotel we thought it looked like paradise. A palm roofed reception and restaurant/bar curves around a crystal blue pool, next to a palm fringed beach. And as far as lying by the pool and eating goes, paradise is a pretty good description. (don't worry if a goat wanders in to the pool area - they seem to... More

We arrived here after 6 days on safari and it was a great place to come to. Located on the beach the views were stunning and the place itself beautiful. We were shown to our very quiet lodge 2 steps from the beach, it was perfect. The room was very clean, we had a couple of issues there with the... More

We stayed 5 nights end july in this very quiet lodge. Upon arrival a little disappointed about the room with ocean view, as the ocean was hardly seeable through the dense vegetation in front. Yet, it was very near and only a few steps away. We found our room very basic and with a heavy bad smell coming from the... More

I had heard about Matemwe Beach Village from a friend who had been there 4/5 years ago and raved about it! When I went to book it through an agent I was booking some group stuff with..I was discouraged with the explanation that it had changed hands and was run down and not well managed. I booked at the Matemwe... More

We got a Dive & Stay package with One Ocean Dive Centre so we got to stay at this beautiful resort, which was very convenient, because the dive centre is located right on the resort premises. The Dive & Stay package can only be paid with by cash, but all our expenses after that were covered by our credit card.... More

My husband, my mother, his mother and I spent 6 nights here after a 7 day safari. It was perfect. We stayed in one of the Shamba suites which was just amazing. It was one of the coolest rooms I've ever stayed in. The bed was big and comfortable. There is no light in the shower so be aware when... More

I spent a short weekend getaway at Matemwe and overall it was a good experience. The rooms are clean and comfortable, the staff is friendly and atypically efficient and that stretch of beach is peaceful and idyllic. However, the value for money is not great. Rooms are basic, dark and the bathrooms need upgrades. There are no toiletries (which I... More

A lovely hotel off the beaten track- so much so that our barefoot taxi driver from Jambiani struggled to find it! A lovely welcome with cold flannels and fresh juice from friendly staff and a lovely surprise to be upgraded to the honeymoon suite.... a beautiful villa open to the beach. Nothing was too much trouble- for example climbing a... More

the place of matemwe is very cool, event if with the tide you cannot swim all the day (which is the case all around Zanzibar). but the village and the spectacle happening in low tide in the lagoon is amazing. the hotel is cool, even if the rooms deserve to be re painted, the people are very nice. the food...
