Wow, this hotel is beautiful! I visited in July and I had an amazing time. I was greeted by the lovely receptionist with a tasty fruity drink. I was actually at the wrong location (they have two locations) but thanks to the manager and my taxi driver (Zanzi taxi service) I was able to relocate to the right one. Anyways, the pool is amazing here! I took a swim every day. The hotel is right on the beach which is picturesque! I had such an amazing time. The staff is so professional and friendly! Let’s not forget the amazing food!!! Every meal was freshly made and so tasty. I am so happy I chose this hotel for my stay of 4 days. I spent half my week in Zanzibar and the other half in Dar Es Salaam. Choi’s this hotel as you will not be disappointed! It is extremely affordable and makes for a perfect stay! I felt at home and the ambiance of an African lodge like room was the icing on the cake! I am so happy and have memories of a lifetime in Zanzibar!

Everything was great, 2 days was not enough! Room was private, comfortable and clean. View, unreal. Snorkeling was top notch. We had such a wonderful time. Even though the lodge was fully booked, it didn't feel that way at all!

I don't write many reviews and also have extensive travel experience (digital nomad). My 8 day stay at Sunshine Marine Lodge in Matemwe, Zanzibar in March was absolutely amazing. I booked scuba diving for 7 days with a highly recommended crew who took care of everything I needed directly on the hotel premises. The hotel is smaller than some of the more touristy places and much quieter. The rooms are very nicely decorated and spacious with an open concept and proper netting for the beds -despite not being bit or seeing a mosquito once. The restaurant is excellent and the staff very nice and helpful. I would recommend for couples especially, however, traveling alone I really got an opportunity to come down and relax in a very beautiful place.

The location and ambience of this lodge is amazing. We do not know why anyone would complain about the quality of the food, which is also excellent (we were on the full-board package). We loved the free snorkel, flipper and reef shoe hire and that we could walk right off the pier and start snorkelling straight away. The snorkel masks are excellent quality and did not hurt to wear for hours at a time. There are sea urchins (because you are swimming in an ocean) but they are only mildly difficult to negotiate should you choose to snorkel at low tide. PS - full board includes water but no other beverages at lunch and dinner. That being said, beer is US$3. Drip coffee and juice is included at breakfast. The free wifi is good (we could download Netflix episodes). If you are interested in diving, the dive drop is on the pier of the resort so you won’t be incurring taxi fees twice a day (which could be US$30 one way).
