Hello guys from all over the world looking for a place to stay in Zanzibar. Your search is over because you found the place. This is the place to be. I stayed in Matemwe Bandas with my Friend. The hotel is in a village which disappointed us at first but when we reached the hotel, we forgot about it immediately, but also found out that the people are nice to tourists. The place was fantastic and the owners are really helpful and nice people. They recently owned the place and... More

I just adored the style of ... Everything. So much love in all details. These guys really turned it into a magic place. The pool clean. The food awesome. The prices super fair. The service great. The rooms cute and clean. And they only have people from the same village working for them. And their kite teacher JUMA is great!!!!

Fairly long drive from the Airport (just over 1 hour) and at the end we went off road through a local village, all of which are fairly poor in Zanzibar, to get to the gates of the Matemwe Bandas Resort. We enter and get out of the car only to be met with… Paradise !! One of the owners, Magdalena,... More

I have cherished every single moment I've spent at Matemwe Bandas. Great localization, superb ambiance, very nice stuff, great food. Bandas are situated right on the beach which makes you feel like Sun rises just for you. The rooms are designed in great style fully lined with mkeka. Lovely Pool near the restaurant and great chill zone around. You can... More

Positives Many to mention: - Fantastic owners: they couldn't have been more welcoming or accommodating. I required gluten free food and Magdalena wrote GF on the chalkboard next to the dishes I could have. - Friendly staff: staff were very pleasant. Those cleaning our rooms did so discretely. We'd have breakfast in the morning and as we returned, the room... More

We stayed here for 5 nights on our honeymoon and had the most wonderful time. The bungalow was huge - the photos don't do it justice - with a very comfortable bed, great shower with hot water and lovely White Company products. We spent a good part of our time lounging out on balcony, taking it all in. The beach... More

We stayed here as a couple for 3 nights and it is a truly amazing place. My girlfriend and I transferred here from Stone town (approx 1hr 20) and were blown away. The bungalows are very lovely, very spacious with hot running water that are literally 3 steps from the beach. The beach itself is very quiet, apart from the... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
THE HOTEL IS CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE Matemwe Bandas is as faithful to its natural surroundings and to the highest levels of luxury as we are to millennia old traditions of local master craftsmanship. We are also a fair trade business that is substantially locally owned, while every member of our team (including our four young apprentices) hails from the village of Matemwe around our property. With private direct access from your verandah, Matemwe’s breathtaking beach is only a step away. You can walk along its majestic palmed-lined breadth on dazzlingly white, super fine sand basking in the brilliant tropical sunshine for miles in both directions, only occasionally coming across other people. Nestling on the beach's edge in rustic exclusivity, our luxury coco wood and palm thatch bungalows share an elegant 11m x 5m swimming fresh water pool and sandy, decked and canopy-covered communal areas. We offer butler service and a la carte local & international fusion cuisine. We also provide high speed Wi-Fi Internet access, laundry service and mineral water in the bandas for free to all residents. ... more   less
