If you seek true relaxation and privacy, away from it all, and you do not require luxury or resort services, then this must be one of the best places on the island. The 3-person room that we had was right on the beach, and in fact consists of the whole beach-side of a house which contains a 2 or 3...

Super nice people welcoming you at arrival and bring you to your suite. Depending where your suite is you are more or less directly situated at the sea where you just jump into nice warm water. In the afternoon you can enjoy a nice cold cocktail at the restaurant or just relax in one of many hammocks. The people are...

We stayed at Panga Chumvi for 2 nights in early June 2016 and we really enjoyed our stay. We had a room on the top floor of one of the bungalows which was well appointed and clean. The food at the resort was absolutely delicious! Some of the best that we had whilst on Zanzibar. We also did a snorkelling...

We only wish we had stayed longer at this gorgeous property! We found them through Responsible Tourism Tanzania, of which Panga Chumvi is a member due to their focus on environmentally friendly principles as well as responsible employment of local staff. It is great to know that this hotel has local owners, and see that the money is being re-invested...

I recently stayed with 4 of my friends and the first day we arrived in Zanzibar and we arrived at Panga Chumvi, it was a moment I will never forget. The location of the resort is stunning, the views of the ocean and the beach are picture book paradise. The rooms are clean and the staff are very friendly and...

We were very surprised to have such a negative experience here as it was recommended on Lonely Planet, usually very reliable. The exterior spaces at Panga Chumvi are beautiful, however we had the following issues with cleanliness and customer service: BUGS IN BED: We got to Panga Chumvi and found 30+ ants in our bed and little brown stains all...

This resort was chosen to celebrate a friends birthday and there were 8 people in total, 3 couples and 2 singles, as one of the single people I can honestly say there was always something new and exciting to see because of the beautiful surroundings and even doing nothing was fantastic. I consider this holiday a luxury holiday because the...

We (family with 2 small children) stayed 4 nights at Panga Chumvi. Nestled between 2 villages the hotel is on a lovely bit of remote beach with the whitest Sands. It supports the local community providing them jobs and opportunities. Despite being positioned in quite a rural area we had running water, reliable WiFi in the room and fans (no...

Many thanks for your very complimentary review, and indeed for your stay with us - which we really enjoyed. I just wanted to clarify one item, as I was very alarmed when I read the review and it seemed that your food and drink bill had amounted to $400/day! I quickly rushed over to check the orders and it is...

I was lucky enough to spend 9 amazing nights at Panga Chumvi. Having traveled to Thailand, Bali and the Gilli's i thought i had already seen some amazing beaches. I was blown away buy the resort and its surroundings. The resort is right on a beach that stretches as far as the eye can see with crystal clear water and...

We stayed at this hotel with some of our friends and loved every minute of it! The room we stayed in was really spacious and clean and had an amazing view of the beach which was no more than a 1 minute walk away. The rooms were cleaned on a daily basis and the service was very professional. The staff...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Panga Chumvi Beach Resort, Matemwe, on the north eastern coast of Zanzibar, is right on the beautiful white sand beach (the longest unbroken stretch of beach in Zanzibar), opposite the pristine coral reef of Mnemba Island. We have 15 simple and stylishly comfortable rooms - in 4 guest lodges. Each room faces out on to its own wide veranda, has a sea or a tropical garden view, and is furnished with traditional hand-crafted coconut wood furniture. Our restaurant overlooks the beach. We love eating fresh, local produce and tasty Zanzibar cuisine, so this is what our chefs prepare for you, when you want it throughout the day. We love both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. Fresh fruit smoothies and cocktails a speciality. We have a good selection of wine, spirits and Tanzanian beers. Staff helpful and friendly. Developing our already close relationship with Matemwe village, we are working towards becoming an eco resort which is very environmentally and culturally aware. Sea views, tropical garden, wi-fi – stunning. ... more   less
