The hotel was not at all what we had expected. The sunbeds' mattresses are old and broken, the pool is not so great, the rooms are very basic and the bed is not so comfortable. The bathroom is just depressing and there is no hot water. The breakfast is a joke: the waiters got

We enjoyed the pool area of the hotel a lot, great view of the ocean. Rooms were clean and spacious. Hotel provided towels for the beach. Breakfast was good - served a-la carte (eggs, pancakes, etc) as well as on a buffet. The food served in the restaurant (lunch and dinner)

Terrible hotel, dirty rooms, matraces on beds are over, mold on the ceiling, dirty pool, big smell in the room, at last we took bread for breakfast and it was moldy!!! Never again. Its our the third hotel here on Zanzibar and its definately the worst one.

I visited Smiles Beach Hotel with 2 friends in January 2019, and we were very happy with our choice. This great little hotel is perfectly located, right on the beach, and with many restaurants, bars within walking distance. Room was spacious, clean and comfortable, and the WiFi

Stayed here for 7 nights. The staff (especially Mbaraca on reception) were very helpful & friendly. Beautiful view from the pool and the bungalows look cute from the outside. However; the rooms and pool furniture could use a face lift. Like a paint job to cover the moulding

Great pool
the above mostly answers your question... if you look on the smiles beach reviews photos you can see some of the high and low tide pics. I would definitely recommend staying here rather than with the huge tourist hotels further south, although the swimming would be better south. smiles pool is not really one that you'd spend time swimming in. however the further south you are the more people there will be so it depends really if you want to be with the tourists. from smiles you have quite a lot to see and do including the nungwi village - which is interesting in itself. dont forget that wherever you are staying the locals will be selling their packages, ie snorkelling trip to the islands for the day, which is relatively good value ($25-$30 US including lunch and snorkel gear) so you can always go off swimming elsewhere on a day trip. zanzibar is a lovely small island so do try to see stonetown and do the spice tour too, that was very interesting!

Ciao. E' un posto molto bello, ti piacerà moltissimo.
