Detailed Reviews
We cancelled our stay at an airbnb to stay at Nungwi House on very short notice. After one month traveling around Tanzania, Nungwi House had the best accommodations of our entire trip. They had air conditioning in the room, which was great, they had a tasty breakfast, super friendly staff, regular cleaning, hot water in the showers, and a quiet place to stay. They are not right on the beach, but they are a very, very short walk from everything you need including grocery stores, restaurants, bars, and the beach itself. They are also very close to taxis and are happy to help you get a cab. They were very kind and allowed us to store our stuff with them for over eight hours after we checked out and even offered us the chance to shower when we returned to take our things before a long flight. Someone mentioned that you can't drink the tap water but this is Africa: you can't drink the tap water anywhere! And bottled water is dirt cheap at the grocery store right outside. If you are traveling on a budget, this is the place you want to go!

Good hotel for this price. Very hospitable staff, not bad breakfast. The beach is in 3 min. Would like to admit a good bed. There is no fridge in the room but you can use the fridge that is located near the kitchen. Also there is no air conditioner and it is very hot at the night.

I have never met so friendly staff as in Nungwi House. The owner was very talkative and helped us with whatever we might need. Moreover, the hotel was extremely clean and the hotel owners completely adapt to your needs and timing. It was definitely the most pleasant stay during my trip to Zanzibar. Next time I'm in Zanzibar, I will surely stay at Nungwi House for the entirety of my trip.

The staff is courteous, wifi covers all rooms (when it works) and the location is great. But...
The towels and sheets were constantly stained, made to change several times, the result never changed.
The rooms are extremely minimal: for example there is only one "bedside table" for a double bed. Ditto for the light switches, they are only on one side. And you don't know where to put clothes or anything else
There isn't a mosquito net around the bed, and the fixtures aren't exactly mosquito-proof..
There is no shelf in the shower to place shampoos or anything else
There are no covering curtains (in case you are bothered by the light in the early morning)
Breakfast is mediocre and very simple: a plate of fruit, a juice of their choice, tea/coffee, slices of bread and eggs.
The toilet wasn't fixed, so you have to be careful when sitting down 😅
They don't have a generator, so it happens that you are left without power (often not, sometimes for 10 minutes, sometimes for 3 hours)

Rooms are small and modest with few place for clothes. There is air conditioner that we didn't use because it was not needed. Only one towel per person. Issues with hot water after the power outage. Things that were not working (drying knob) we reported to the staff but were not fixed. One of our two rooms didn't lock well and sometimes we found it unlocked after the cleaning service. Rooms are cleaned daily and towels changed after 3 days. Lining was not changed.
All rooms are ground floor. We had a small lizard in the room.
Yard is ok but needs regular gardening.
Location is awful, at the dusty parking square with the noise all the night. There is a shop, souvenirs and pharmacy close to the guest house. Also plenty of restaurants nearby.
Breakfast is the same every day and the content is acceptable - fruits, egg(s), toast, pancake, jam, margarine, chocolate topping, peanut butter, tea or coffee. You also get fresh and tasty avocado and passion juice every day. No drinking water. The fork and knife they put directly on the table that is not clean. We found ants in the margarine and saw a rat in the kitchen. After that I stopped consuming breakfast.

My partner and our two friends stayed here for 5 days and were very happy. Rooms had AC and were very clean and modern. We felt safe and it was a 3 minute walk to the beach with lots of restaurants. The hotel offered a few excursions and we did the dolphins, which was an okay experience. The staff were absolutely wonderful and the included breakfast was way better than anything else we had in Tanzania.

Spacious and very clean room. Large bathroom, hot water and good water pressure. The staff is very welcoming, I had the chance to eat a local meal as soon as I arrived. Everything is done to make your stay pleasant. I recommend this establishment for its excellent location, many shops nearby, taxis, restaurants and beach.
The staff takes great care.

The hotel is in a strategic position, a few minutes from the beach. The staff is very friendly and available for any need. The air conditioning didn’t work our last night but this place is 100% value for money. Special thanks to Mariam, Tito and all the people of the team for their smiles and kindness.

Tito is a jack of all trades. When the door is not working he fixes it, the bathroom problems. Actually everything. I just to express my sincere gratitude. Nothing is too much trouble for him. He volunteered to take us anywhere around Nungwi, the beach, the aquarium, village even just to walk you to the shops. I didnt see such hospitality in my life. He has a quick sense of humour, lovely to talk to him. Arranged airport transport for us at a fair price. Even woke up as early as 4:30am to ensure that we are ready as we were leaving for the airport very early.
Now about the Hotel, very clean place with a homely feel to it. A beautiful garden. The place looks new.
Hot rain shower. Beach is a few minutes away, there is restaurants/bars and other hotels in just a proximity.
Shared refridgerator. All was perfect.
Moudy the manager cant do enough for the guests. Very friendly man. Open for chats any time of the day. Runs the place so well.
Breakfast is served from 9:00am.Tea and coffee is available throughout the day. Fresh fruits, eggs and smoothies were great.
I recommend anyone to stay at this hotel. You wont regret it.

The hotel was the best we had in 2 weeks of tanzania! It's extremly clean, bed towels, everything! The breakfast was amazing: everyday a huge plate of fruits then the breakfast. We ate soo good every morning that we only bought dinner. The manager speaks perfectly english and he helped us with everything we needed. There were also family with kids and they were also extremly happy! The beach is 2 min away.

Hello,
No AC in the room but the fan is more than enough :) there usually is no AC just fan, same in our hotel in jambiani.
Have a nice trip !

Yes we do provide towels, however the property is not on the beach.
