To start our holiday we spent 4 nights at Palala River Cottage, a fantastic opportunity to get away from it all; we thoroughly enjoyed the "us time", the breathtaking starry skies at night, the visits of a number of Impalas, vervet monkeys, a warthog, shongololos, numerous birds all around and being woken up with the call of the red chested...

We spent 5 nights at Kingfisher Cottage, seeing in the New Year 2017. We saw hippo and vervet monkeys near the house and went for long walks across the reserve spotting waterbuck, implala, kudu, blesbok, eland, warthog, wildebeeste, zebra and a gathering of eleven giraffe. The boys rented mountain bikes and took some great photos. We had time to explore...

The river cottage is perfect for a couples get away. Lovely farm, loved the freedom to be able to drive around as we wished. Even had a visit from the hippo we heard so much about one night while having a braai. Will return asap.

We really enjoyed our stay in this well-equipped cottage. It is very clean, spacious and neat. We really enjoyed the shower which is outside with such a relaxing view. When we first arrived we saw a few animals on our way close to the cottage. It was simply beautiful.

My Family and I stayed for 6 nights at Kingfisher Cottage and had a lovely time. The facilities are great and well maintained. My one negative point, that in my opinion should be rectified as a matter of urgency, is that there is no way to contact staff at the main lodge. There is no telephone in the cottage and...

Thank you very much for this lovely review on Kingfisher Cottage. We are delighted that you enjoyed your time at the cottage. Please accept our apologies for not being able to get hold of any one during the power cut experienced on your last night. The cottage was the perfect first stop on our honeymoon trip to just relax after a busy, long but also exciting day! The peace and quiet of the cottage and area just add to the romantic feeling that was the perfect way to start our journey.

My boyfriend and I got away for a weekend and chose Palala. Rooms are small and very basic but the location is breath taking - right in the bush. Only thing we didn't like was the fact that we could not contact anyone in case of an emergency, we would recommend a satellite phone to the reception. Other than that...

Absolutely loved our stay at Kingfisher Cottage, what a serene and beautiful setting, nights sat out under the stars and mornings watching the Hippos in the river. We spent a lot of time up at the main house but returning to Kingfisher always felt like coming home, if your home is warm and comfortable and exceptionally clean! We'd be delighted...

My family and I looked for a relaxing getaway location in the Vaalwater / Ellisras area and were very pleased to find Kingfisher Cottage. A lovely farmhouse with all necessary amenities, including great braai area under massive old trees and swimming pool for the kids.
