There are things to like about Kingfisher Cottage. For our family, it was great to have a house and two rondavels to ourselves. The birding was good and it was fun watching the hippos from the hide. The kitchen had more-or-less everything we needed (too few wine glasses, only

Dear Mr Wick, Thank you for your very detailed review, we are so sorry that our Kingfisher cottage did not live up to all of your expectations. We are delighted that you enjoyed having the farmhouse and rondavels to yourselves, enjoyed the birding, walking in the game reserve and watching the hippos from the hide in front of the cottage however your ‘poor’ rating shows that you were far from happy overall. This is very disappointing as we pride ourselves in our customer service which is usually one of the key factors mentioned by guests who stay in our self-catering cottages. I hope that we did respond to your requests sufficiently during your 6 day stay in that we cleaned the pool 3 times following rain storms which upset the water balance and visited the cottage each time you had a request. We do offer cleaning services at Kingfisher, if booked in advance and available but this was not requested. The cottage was cleaned ahead of your arrival, including swept and polished floors. We do provide a plastic salad bowl rather than glass as many of our guests like to eat at the table outside under the trees and prefer carrying plastic bowls. We have double checked our kitchen inventory and we apologise for the missing wine glasses, we would have replaced anything immediately if we had known. We have checked the state of the coffee cups as a result of your comments and can only apologise that there is indeed a chip in a coffee cups which have now been replaced. You are absolutely right that the lawn was not looking at it’s best due to the drought. But with the rain that we had during your stay – the aftermath of one storm is shown in your photo, and the subsequent rain – the lawn is now looking verdant. We do sometimes have the odd bare patch however as warthogs visit the lawn and rootle around a bit when there are no guests in residence. We are sorry that one of the rondavel doors wasn’t working properly on 2 occasions, even though we tried to repair them during your stay we have opted to replace the doorhandles. The gutters and paint work will be fixed up and we shall check all taps for drips. The bedding is a cotton and polyster mix and generally considered good quality hospitality bedding. We shall address all the items that you felt unhappy about and we can hope that your enjoyment of the location of the cottage, the privacy and your experience of the freedom to roam and the wildlife you encountered will be your main memory rather than some of the details at the cottage that didn’t meet your expectations. Kind regards, the Jembisa team.
