I only stayed at Riverrun for one or two nights, in the winter of 2010, but I still remember how beautiful both the house and the landscape were, incredibly peaceful, stunning views, lovely hospitality. Very much to be recommended, whether you are looking for activity-packed days or just some nice walks and a glass of wine at sundown. Just very... More

Meg is the best hostess. We felt so welcome and nothing was too much trouble for her The accommodation is luxurious,Breakfast and dinner, a delight .It was fun to meet other guests staying and share their experiences. We had a beautiful, spacious room with amazing views down to the river, which at this time of the year is surrounded by autumn colours.... We so enjoyed our three-night stay stay at Riverrun in February this year. Having driven quite far on the day of our arrival we had booked dinner at the lodge. It was delicious, and nice to chat with the other guests. Drinks and canapes pre-dinner, sitting outside if the weather was good, were lovely. Our bedroom was spacious and very... More

Unfortunately, we only stayed for two nights, but would have liked to have stayed longer. The location of the lodge is just superb and is about 5km drive from Wanaka. It sits on a small escarpment in a large area of private land and offers wonderful vistas in most directions. Local walks from the lodge take you down to the... More

Riverrun has spacious rooms in a very pleasant environmet. More important, Meg is a great hostess and knows everything to do, and where to eat in Wanaka. She delights in making arrangements. Stay with her and enjoy her hospitality, or ask her to help with other arrangements .

We went to Wanaka for our wedding and honeymoon and decided to book a 5 night stay in the Riverrun Lodge after reading the excellent reviews online. The location of the lodge is just superb, sitting on a small hill overlooking the nearby fields and surroundings. When we arrived we were greeted very warmly by Meg, the lodge owner and... More

We could only stay here one night as it was fully booked on the other nights - it is in a lovely spot sitting on a hill near Wanaka. We stayed in a Clutha room upstairs - it was very comfortable with a large bathroom. There is a small kitchen downstairs for guests to use to make tea and coffee... More

Lovely lodge - but needs sharpening up. The lady who runs the lodge had had a pacemaker fitted so was unable to provide the pre booked dinner. That is fine she had agreed with our agent to pay for the taxi fare, she did there but not back - bit odd really and not in the spirit of what was... More

This is a well run architectural gem . The owner Meg obviously has great experience at running this small luxury hotel and uses her skill to great effect . Our room was superbly equipped with every essential you'd require ,a lovely wet room and great views of the surrounding countryside . Walks were available from the lodge and a nice... More

We stayed 5 nights in a Clutha room and absolutely loved it! The rooms are beautiful, and the marble bathrooms amazing. I was a little worried at first that the rooms didn't have air conditioning but you get a great breeze from the large windows so really you don't need one. We also had fortune of eating in at Riverrun... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Riverrun is a small luxury lodge, 5 mins drive from Wanaka, on a 500 acre farm bordering the Clutha river (New Zealand's largest river) and the Cardrona river. Guests can enjoy walks, running and bike trails on the property. The accommodation is luxurious, stylish, but un-stuffy. The lodge employs a chef and offers a gourmet 4 course dinner to guests Monday through Friday nights, but not at weekends. Evening appetisers are served nightly. Breakfast is delicious. Meg has lived in Wanaka for 18 years and done many of the local activities; hiking, mountain biking, skiing, climbing, kayaking, heli-hiking and heli-biking, cruises out to islands on the lake - not to mention wine-tasting. All the lodge rooms are ensuite, with magnificent views of the Southern Alps. ... more   less
