We stayed 3 nights at Omahau Downs while hiking in the area. We stayed in THE LODGE building which as 4 large rooms with own patio deck, plus a shared kitchen, living space, and wash machine. The King-Size bed was very comfortable and it was great to have the kitchen and wash machine. The view out the patio door was amazing. It is very close to town for restaurants and food shopping. Our hostess was laid back and very accommodating. Would definitely stay here again. A little difficult to find without GPS as they are not allowed to have a sign by the road - the name is engraved into the stone gateway - look for the NZ blue lodging signs 400m before the entrance.
We stayed here after floods near Franz Joseph changed our plans. It is very spacious and has a nice view on the Southern Alps. Room and bathroom were also clean. There is a lot of parking space and checking in and out was easy. Location wise it is right outside of Twizel and in the Middle of Lake Tekapo and My Cook. So a perfect spot for a few day trips.
We stayed at Omahau Downs for 2 nights relaxing, after cycling the Alps to Ocean ride, returning to Twizel for our rental car. This accommodation was hosted by a friendly and helpful family, happy to share local knowledge. The room was comfortable, with a large bed, compact fridge and tea making facilities. Good little bathroom. Excellent communal space for cooking and lounging - this would a great place for 4 couples to spend a weekend. Well equipped kitchen with dishwasher. The view across the field to Mt.Cook area was pretty spectacular, distant but ever changing light. Would definitely stay again.
We stayed in the Cabin - such a beautiful location - best views of Mt Cook in the town I would say! A lovely place to relax, close to Twizel town, and under an hour drive to Mt Cook Village. This place was recommended to me and it did not disappoint!
We stayed two nights in the Cabin. On the positive side, the location is wonderful. Close to town yet remote and quiet. We loved viewing the nighttime sky. The cabin is a very basic accommodation and needs updating. The gas burner is self-lighting (almost burned my hand). The light in one of the bedrooms was not working. No coffee facilities were provided though the owner brought one upon our request. Our biggest complaint was the 'fast, high speed internet' and free wi-fi. Ha! That is false advertising! We were given voucher coupons and were kicked off after a short time and not allowed back on the internet for 24 hours. In our 48 hour stay, we had about 1 hour's worth of internet. The owners need to update their system.
