We arrived around noon but was told that check in time is at 2pm and our room was not ready. We understand these things happened and went out to explore Port Denarau. When we returned around 3pm, the room still was not ready, and staff gave us an "upgrade" to luxury king room instead; it was a non-refurbished room, with poor internet strength and warm aircon that didn't allow us to adjust the temperature or fan speed. We were really tired by then after a 10 hours flight. I requested for another room, a re-furbished room because the un-refurbished room was ready old, and musky with airconditioned that doesn't function really well. It was not exactly an "upgrade". Duty manager accommodated but said that the refurbished room will only be ready at 5.30pm. We said ok because the un-furbished room is really unbearable and it was at the block where renovations were taking place. Totally zero vacation feel, a total downer. We do not know if they are really full or if there were other reasons for not being able to provide us with a room for us to rest. After 10 hours of flight, and 5 hours of waiting, we finally gotten a proper room. On the 2nd day, the housekeeping team removed the hand towels and floor mat but forgot to replace them. We called to ask for replacement. We also tried to ask for wine opener from the housekeeping team but was informed to purchase one at the gift shop instead. It was our first visit to Fiji, first leg of the trip and it was unfortunate that we had a really rough start. The reno works going on at the pool area also didn't quite give us the vacation feel. We are also surprised that there aren't any deck chairs lined on the beach as well.

We stayed at the Sofitel for which was our first visit to Fiji. The resort is fantastic and we were really happy with our choice. The new kids club opened a couple of days before we arrived and it was very impressive! Great programs and facilities for the kids. Rafael and the staff were amazing!! So professional, welcoming and loving with the kids. We also booked a nanny through them which was great too. The pool was the next best feature - great shallow areas for lounging and for the toddlers. Plenty of space and not over crowded. The pool side food and drinks service was also great and well utilized by us! The newly renovated beach front restaurant and bar was beautiful too - definitely worth a night out there. The day spa was also nice - mainly the lovely Annie who treated me to my first ever pedicure. She was fantastic and I wish I had time to pay her a second visit during our stay. Breakfast was fantastic - lots of variety! There are renovations happening at the moment so it did get loud around the pool at times however we knew they were on when we booked - so no surprises there. The resort is in a great location too - 10min walk to the Marina and near the other resorts if you were after a change of scenery. Our room had a lovely garden and water view but that’s about all the food that could be said about the rooms. They were more of a 2 star and in need of renovation. Not up to the usual Sofitel standards. We weren’t in our rooms too much so all in all our visit here was thoroughly enjoyed! We hope to come back and check out the resort once the renos are all complete!

Initial checking in @ reception we felt we got very rushed & didn’t quite gather all the information provided, We found the housekeeping was very inconsistent some days our towels were there some days it was missing. Staff are not that informative about activities or what is offered @ the hotel or elsewhere. We had to keep asking for information in order to book for activities. Our staying @ Sofitel wasn’t how Fiji is perceived, friendly with smiling faces. But above all the bell boys won our hearts especially Stee. Hope our stay next time is better experience

Bulls, My husband and I stayed at Waitui adults only beach club for 5 nights and it was fantastic!!! Our first holiday away without our kids for a friends wedding (held at the resort), so we were very excited to stay in the beach club! It did not disappoint and we are very glad we paid the extra to stay at Waitui!!! We arrived around 8:30pm with a group of friends who were staying the main resort area, we were then told we had a separate check in area & were whisked away by a jovial porter on a a golf cart with our luggage. Greeted by a very friendly receptionist who explained everything to us & booked us in for dinner, upon our request. We were escorted by the porter to our room and showed around, then freshened up and went to dinner. We enjoyed a fantastic poolside dinner, my husband said he would happily eat those pork ribs for the rest of his life! Our room was very newly renovated and all the furnishings were beautifully new & very stylish. Our only concerns with the room were the really hard mattress and an issue with the aircon, that kept turning off if we were inactive while in the room (ie overnight) or once we left the room. It seemed to be set on a movement sensor, which we have reported to the hotel to hopefully be rectified. The rooms below ours were still being renovated ant at times we could hear drilling or saws, but it was not enough to impact our stay. The Waitui pool & restaurant/bar area don’t even compare to the main resort, much more relaxed atmosphere and far superior food then at the main resort buffet restaurant (Lagoon). Waitui also has free drink/nibbles a few times throughout the day, and a 5-6pm happy hour with complimentary cocktails & canapés! The new Solis restaurant on the beachfront by the main resort pool is also divine, and worth the price. We had a family dinner with 6 people and all our meals were delicious, and the atmosphere is great! The whole resort has a huge alcoholic beverage menu with many cocktails and fancy drinks to try at reasonable prices. We enjoyed a fabulous night at our friends wedding, with much fun and dancing on the beachfront, and then up in the breeze bar -as a sprinkle or rain moved us indoors. The So Spa was also a delightful experience and recommended, they had a special rate for comparable prices to Australia. We also utilised the Rosie Holidays tour desk in main lobby to book an island day trip, the lady was very helpful and friendly, booked a trip for the same day no problems. We were also able to pay in Australian currency via eftpos. On our last day we had a 9am flight out and our family/friends staying in the main resort had an airport transfer pick up at 5:30am. However when we enquired at the Waitui reception we found out that we could check our luggage & receive our boarding passes at the hotel (flying with Fiji Airways), so this meant we didn’t have to get up so early and rush off before sunrise. We still got to enjoy poolside breakfast and stroll the beach one more time, before our transfer picked us up and delivered us to the airport. The location of the Sofitel is great, an easy 15min walk to the Denarau marina (ask for directions at reception...you can’t walk along the beach and get there). Bula bus picks up out the front, all day hop on/hop off tickets available from the resort shop for $8FJ pp. the bus does a circuit along all resorts, golf club, water park & marina - about 20mins round trip. The Sofitel resort shop also sells most things you would need throughout your stay, plus souvenirs and nice clothing/accessories...& at comparable prices to shops at Denarau Marina. We bought 50plus sunscreen each day as we found (our lily white skin) went through a bottle a day, as the sun is quite harsh!!! All staff were friendly, helpful and attentive, no matter which section of the resort you were in. I would not hesitate to recommend this resort, and especially the Waitui Beach Club. I’m sure when the main resort guest room renovations are complete, the resort will be even better! Finally, the kids club area looked fantastic, we didn’t take our kids but I could see they would really enjoy what was on offer. Thank you for a fantastic holiday, we can’t wait to come back as soon as we get the chance! Vinaka 😄
