We went in June 2021. This hotel was not ready to be opened yet. Pretty place but not impressed. Too expensive for what was offered. We had several issues during the days were there. Other hotels gave better service for way less.

The first problem the beach was closed , you will need to drive every day for the beach , closest beach 15 minutes . Our door wasn’t working , I had to wait on the floor with my toddler every day because they couldn’t figure it out what was the problem . The people are very friendly but they don’t seem to care to fix anything for you . Very slow service , if you are hungry you better take a snack before dinner . They don’t have reservations for a restaurant , you must wait with your kid screaming for the food . The parking is very far , you walk a lot in the heat carrying things . The views are amazing and the place very clean, the water park is very nice for the kids , but I will think is more for older adults who are not planning too much or couples without small children

I was excited to be staying at those well known “upscale” resort. We were told it just reopened in May. As a hospitality veteran, I understand they are short of takers in the labor pool, however, the lack of training and communication in ALL areas is SO disappointing. No information on arrival of restaurant availabilities. Staff had no idea there was a dinner buffet Fri-Sat nor that there was a breakfast buffet in the Pablo Casals ballroom every day. Took us 4 days and a poor breakfast experience downstairs to find out. By then we had hit a local bakery daily for breakfast. Bellmen…wow. These guys could make so much more in tips if they talked to the guests rather than just lead them to the room. Inform of daily F&B offerings, entertainment, etc. These guys should know the room features and explain them. By the way, no phone system and you don’t tell the guests?!!! This is a STUNNING resort with so much potential…they administration has to rally and train and communicate a lot more. I would return, but it’s going to be a while.

This review comes from a person that has been visiting this hotel since 2002 almost every year while it has been opened. I’ve experienced different administrations and have seen this hotel evolve through time. The hotel is obviously not at its peak moment since not all attractions are open and pandemic atmosphere is still palpable. Nevertheless, we found it in acceptable condition and I am glad they reopened it while they keep working to get the property to where it was during my last stay in May 2017. So, we just came back from a 3 night (Monday -Thursday ) family getaway. Stayed at room 3140. This was our experience... First impression: Beautiful golf grounds, gardens and breathtaking views everywhere. They changed floors and color scheme to lobby and common areas to a most modern vibe but it’s still beautiful. All employees were very welcoming and helpful during our stay. Check in: Stay charges were doubled by an alleged glitch in the system. We had to explain and use the phone calculator because employee didn’t seem to understand right away why the balance was outrageously high. Be vigilant and review invoices carefully before authorizing payment. Room wasn’t ready at check in time but we waited while using the main pool area so no big drama there for us. Room was finally ready at 6pm. They didn’t offer anything to compensate for the delay and we didn’t ask for anything either since I understood that the delays might be because of additional sanitation for covid. Same occurred to other guests. This might be an issue if you want your room right away at check in time so be aware. Room was clean, comfortable and well provided. Room view was as beautiful as always at El Conquistador. No other hotel in PR can beat the views. No problem with construction noises at all during our stay. All opened areas were clean and well maintained. Coqui Water Park was excellent for the kids (ours are 2 teens). No reservations were required to use the water park during our stay. Not much entertainment during week nights. Only 4 free pool tables and a Shuffleboard. That last one was a new thing but we goggled the game rules and it was surprisingly entertaining. Food was great at all restaurants, even at the water park the food was good. We had the breakfast buffet and it was great. Note that you are not allowed to bring food or drinks bought outside the hotel to the pool and water park area and security will check your bags. Golf: We did an 18 hole round and this is one of the most beautiful and well maintained golf courses in the island. It is hard but if you enjoy golfing then it’s a most. Employees were super attentive at the golf area. Covid measures: Guests are not required to wear masks at any given time but are encouraged to wear them indoors. All employees and almost every guest used face masks indoors. At restaurants, pools and water park areas, almost no guests were using masks for obvious reasons. There was sanitizer stations at several locations throughout the hotel. Restaurants (in and outdoors alike) still have tables arranged keeping the 6ft distance, which was good. Must say the we paid around $250 per night because we got hold of a reopening special rate. I heard other guests paying close to $500 per night. I wouldn’t have paid that, at least not until all restaurants and attractions are re-opened. In general we really enjoyed our stay and all members of the staff were good to us. We will definitely revisit when they finally reopen Palomino island!

We booked 4 rooms last week and had a total of 16 guest. After dinner on our second night we came to the room to find housekeeping inside at 9:30pm. There were a total of 4 people (2 security) guarding the door and would not let us in. The safe was open but we had taken our valuables with us because staff can easily open these, luckily nothing was missing. As if this was not bad enough at the same time they were attempting to get into the room next to us. The guest were sleeping because they'd been out all day. When the man heard the commotion he came to door and as he opened security pushed and hit him in the head. Needless to say we both filed complaints as there was definitely something shady going on. All other hotels were booked and/or could accommodate all of us so we had no choice but to stay. As for the rest of the stay, we booked based on this Hotel's reputation and past history but this is far from the Resort we thought. In fact this is not even a Resort this is a Hotel with a couple of pools. Half the property is under construction and the rooms are very dated - we've stayed at Hilton hotels with nicer rooms. The beach was closed and the so called nighttime activities ended at 12am instead of 1am, which they advertised. Unless you play pool just go back to your room. Also bring your own drinks because there is no where to get a bottle of water once everything closes. Our vacation was saved by all the other stuff the Island has to offer. Don't kid yourselves, if you want a resort, sorry to say (born in PR so it's sad) go to another Island or Mexico. El Conquistador will not provide that Resort experience you expect and PAY for.

Response from Luis Mendez, Guest Services / Front Office at El Conquistador Resort
Responded 1 week ago
Please allow me an opportunity to introduce myself; my name is Marshall Tullos, Managing Director at the EL Conquistador Resort. Our Guest Service Team has advised me of the service you received during your stay with us. As we have alerted guests via our website and on the different media outlets, the Resort is undergoing a complete renovation process of all our rooms and recreational facilities in order to offer our guests an experience like no other hotel on the Island. The renovation work and in-place controls for the prevention of COVID-19 infections pose great challenges on our staff and sometimes it is very difficult to provide the service that our guests deserve. We would like to take this opportunity to apologize again for the situation you experienced during your stay at our resort. We always strive to provide the best service to our guests and on this occasion, we did not exceed your expectations. For this reason, and at the moment, we are offering complimentary self-parking and free access to the Coquí Waterpark. On the night of the incident described in your review, you and your family were assisted by our Director of Security, who, together with our Executive Team, apologized and reached an agreement with you to compensate your family for this inconvenience. I hope that you were able to enjoy the rest of your time in Puerto Rico once we sorted everything out and I am glad we were able to find you a compensation that was to your satisfaction. In addition to that, since we value your feedback, we would like to extend you a 50% discount for your next visit to the resort. Regarding the money misplacement, the Puerto Rico State Police were called immediately to fully investigate the allegations. After a thorough investigation, they concluded that no items were missing from your guestroom, reason why no complaint was filed. As we explained to you and your family at that moment, the electronic safe can only be opened with the code assigned by each guest. Furthermore, your family members confirm that they were not sure your valuables were, or if indeed they were ever inside the safe. Regarding the other situation to which you refer in your review, as explained to you, our security personnel responded to a call from another guest who requested emergency assistance but there was a confusion with the room number of this guest, which unfortunately caused the incident in question. We truly care about every guest that visit us, and our priority is to create the best memories and experiences for them at our Resort. Our executive team and our over 300 employees take your concerns very seriously, which is why we have taken the necessary measures to ensure these types of events don’t happen again. Once again, we offer our apologies and look forward to providing you a better experience in the near future.
