Puerto Rico holds a special place in my heart, I have been visiting throughout my life because it is so accessible and easy to get to. This review is for last summer, so it may be a bit outdated, but the fact that the hotel has been around for so many years, is validation enough how good it is. This was my first time staying in the Fajardo area, it's about a 30 minute drive to the main San Juan zone, but we actually never left the hotel, we found everything we needed on site. Plentiful in pools, beach, restaurants, and service, it's an option for us next summer.

El Conquistador Resort as it currently stands holds a huge amount of potential but has a long way to go. They took a huge hit with Hurricane Maria and are under major renovations. When we were there in mid-March, 2020, it appeared that about 1/4 of the resort was up and running. Our room was clean and comfortable, while slightly dated, and there were two pools and a hot tub open, so that was nice. The rooms could stand some updating, for things like doors that keep out the hallway noise and bathtubs that aren’t peeling, but the bed was comfortable, the towels and sheets were clean, and there was a nice walk-in closet with a full-length mirror. To some degree, it felt like they were patching up holes rather than replacing things that needed replacing, but I’m not sure what their long-term plans are. There’s a cafe that opens at 0700, and one bar/restaurant with a very small menu, so unless you want to eat pizza and quesadillas every night, plan on leaving the resort for real meals. Also, the drinks were prohibitively expensive (I’m talking $14 for a maybe 10-ounce blended drink in a little plastic cup). They are unable to charge purchases or meals to your room, so come prepared to bring your wallet whenever you leave your room. The music played by the pool, whether live or recorded, was extremely loud, to the point of making the area anything but relaxing. I’m not an old fogey, I swear, but the bass was so loud that it rattled the ground from across the pool. We tried to avoid the music by moving to the other pool, but there wasn’t a shady spot in sight. The two umbrellas down there were screwed into the ground and being used. We asked the staff if there might be more available, and they said that’s all they had. We found a shady spot at the first pool, and when I asked them to turn the bass down a little, they appeared to try but I was unable to discern any difference. I know I sound like an old, crotchety lady, but I’m telling you, we couldn’t talk to each other because it was so loud. The wifi was spotty and unreliable, but we had adequate cellular service to get by without it. The TV in our room was huge and awesome with satellite channels, so that was another positive thing. Overall, you can tell that El Conquistador Resort used to be a very luxurious resort that catered to families (it used to have a water park, funicular that went down to the marina, and another pool, but all of them were under renovation when we were there), but for the moment, it’s pretty dated and limited in its amenities. I look forward to seeing how the renovation turns out and hope they’re able to bring it back to its original splendor.

overall our experience was amazing, whatever parts of the hotel that is functional now during renovations was perfect! and the staff all went out of their way with exemplary service. grounds and rooms are pretty clean although the hallways and rooms did have a bit of an interesting smell. pools were gorgeous, not all of them were the cleanest but the main pool was always spotless... we did have issues with the fire alarm, it kept going off and once even went off at 3 am

I was supposed to spend 5 night here but ended up leaving the next day. First the hotel smells like mildew everywhere. Hurricane Maria really did a job on this place which really sucks because it's such a beautiful place. But it shouldnt be opened to the public yet. Aside from the smell the AC in my room didnt work, I called the reception and they said the would have maintenance look at it. Well i fell asleep waiting and they never came to my room neither did they call me to tell me anything. The next morning we got up and left for the beach, When we got back the thermostat said it was set to 65° but the room felt like it was 90° i called the reception again only to find out that the AC was out in the entire hotel. I decided to book somewhere else. Even though i complained on the first day they still ended up charging me for the night. Before opening up to the public this place needs major work. I do not recommend this place at this time.

Seriously trust me don't come here to this overpriced, overrated place. It was Filthy dirty bed sheets, the food is Americanized crap, nothing was open. Roaches everywhere. Such a Shame. The neighborhood is beautiful. Breathtaking views. Flamego beach near by. Just eat food outside of the hotel and save some money.
