My sister booked here based off a friend raving about this place before I even got a chance to really scope it out. She chose here to celebrate her 40th birthday. I booked my family of 3 (counting myself) to join the other 8 that jumped to book so its 11 of us in total….ok let me stop now to let you know this is about to be a doozy so if you want the details keep reading cause this will be lengthy. (If you rather skip a long read let me just sum it up by saying it wasn’t enjoyable AT ALL) Ok on check in my group of 3 was diamond club which come with a butler and a speedy check in at the diamond lounge. The Mr, my son and I had our room within 25 minutes after signing papers saying we don’t have COVID, symptoms, blah, blah, blah. We were given our bracelets which doubled as our room key and a $100 reversible hold was placed on my credit card. After that we were told go get food at the jerk hut while they took our bags to our room. We arrived after 12 so jerk hut was the only thing opened which was delish (on that first day). Unfortunately 7 took over an hr after we were well checked in to get a room. My aunt didn’t get a room until about 4pm-ish a which was more than 2 hrs after arrival. Strike 1. We had waited on a painfully long line at the hut and ate by time they all had a room. That jerk hut was slow as a snail. Like I mentioned we waited a long time on line for food there. That would pretty be our experience every time we waited to eat at the only place in proximity to the beach and pool between 11am and 5pm when places open for dinner. The other place open is the buffet which is a walk over. When my sister finally got her room she made her way to the jerk hut and asked for jerk chicken and the lady at the counter rolled her eyes at her. Strike 2. She had to get the manager and the manager had to remove the young lady from the counter. From there my sister was visibly upset 90% of the trip and so was I. The bar - OMG…the bars serve juice with a tablespoon of alcohol. I’m a very very lightweight drinker so if I am complaining about the strength of supposed alcoholic beverages then that says a lot. It got so bad that our group of 11 had to request double shots and even then they still skimped. Strike 3 for me….one night we got fed up and asked the bar to just hand us the bottle of rum from behind the bar - of course they said they could not give us the bottle and poured us several shots. We stayed 4 days, by day 3 I started ordering pineapple juice and coke since it was all one and the same. The room - I liked that there was 1.5 bathrooms in our 1br presidential not so much presidential suite. The large balcony spanning across the bedroom and living room with the beautiful view was nice as well. There’s a 1/2 bathroom in the living room and a full bath with a shower and separate tub in the bedroom. The living room was a tad outdated. The cabinets were stained, it looked rickety, the sink was small, there was a table in the living room with one chair. Only the table on the balcony had all the chairs so we ate out there on hard wicker chairs. The mini fridges in the bedroom are low powered so the sodas are barely cold no matter how long you leave them in there. Think leaving soda in the fridge for 20 minutes cold. The shower door did not close all the way which made the floor outside the shower a mess. The floor is some sort of slippery tiles all over the suite. They should consider area rugs for grip here and there. A few times I nearly bit it coming out the shower with wet feet the most. The lighting in the bedroom is minimal, a lamp for additional lighting is needed. The couch look like two preschool mats covered in a sheet. I don’t think it was a real couch to be honest. I couldn’t really tell with everything draped in a white sheet. Decor in that area left a lot to be desired. The remotes for the TVs half worked at times. Thank goodness we didn’t idnt watch tv much, the picture was blurry mostly. The bed in the bedroom was super comfy though! I had no complaints there. Service - our butlers Julio and Levardo saved our asses a lot! When my sister wanted diner at the steakhouse one member of our group was told we have to pay $20 per person. The hotel also kept trying to push the privte chef experience on us which was more money. Our butlers got my family reservations at no additional cost on the day we wanted. We had no liquor in our room though online it says it comes stocked in the room, we didnt have it. Not until we asked Levardo for rum did we get a full bottle. My sister was having such an awful time we requested a second bottle for her to have so she didn’t have to keep going around asking “are you sure alcohol is in here?” or say “this is juice” On day 3 we finally saw food service come around with the little nip bottles of rum. WOW how nice….it seems without our butlers a lot of basic stuff we should of had we wouldn’t have gotten without them which sucks for those who didn’t pay for diamond club. We didn't see our butlers much - in fact I didnt even see Julio but to his defense the man was busy. The butlers do a lot, they had a lot of families to take care of. The Mr met Julio a few times and said he was really awesome. Levardo was wonderful too! I really appreciate their assistance this entire time. In fact the resort should thank them cause that’s what got that second star. I felt like I had to beg for everything that was standard - like ice. ONE ice machine for the resort that’s somewhere at the front of the resort is disrespectful. By the way the ice machine broke day 3…. I paid almost $4,000 to be there for my group of 3 alone. I wont even count what the 8 paid in addition to that. I requested soda and they bought up exactly 3. I had to beg for that then waited over two hours for it. oh the kicker is being held prisoner to the room praying they show up because they do not come in the room unless you are there. In theory that’s wonderful if service is prompt. But its not. Speaking of prompt food service was painfully slow everywhere, including at the jerk hut. Everything was a wait. Because staff had attitudes they obviously took their tine doing basic things. The night we got there 8 out the group went to the Italian restaurant and waited over an hour for food, nobody came over to acknowledge their wait. I was to meet them but couldn’t decided what to wear, finally decided a whole hour and a half later and went down and still they had no food. We came up with the idea to run to the Tex mex place to get food hoping we can have dinner. Nope! Another hour wait with just water, no ice, even after practically begging for ice once more. When asked about food we were looked at as if we shouldn’t be asking and was told “we are waiting on the kitchen” I really don’t understand the hold up at this point when the serving size of food is the size of a hockey puck and taste very microwaved. I ordered an enchilada and it tasted overly toasted and most importantly nasty. I left the food and walked out. Our group went to bed without dinner day 1 on the resort. I even tried room service. The chicken tenders from room service was salty, fries oily. It all went in the trash. Room service - that’s the biggest joke of all. 4 items on the menu for lunch and dinner. Royalton burger, chicken fingers and fries, salad wrap and some sort of spaghetti with meat sauce (come on what am I 5!?) all day evert day that’s all they want to bring you and insult to injury the food always take 40 to 60 minutes to come upstairs. Then when asked why can’t I get food from the restaurant we were told “they don’t allow take away” - WHAT! I SPENT ALMOST 4 THOUSAND DOLLARS AND I CANT GET FOOD FROM THE PLACE I PAID TO EAT AT? I HAVE TO GO SIT THERE TO BEG FOR FOOD AND ICE? In-flipping-sulting… Let me add that if you do sit down at a restaurant and accept the abuse you’re gonna be waiting in sweltering heat because AC seem to be non existent outside your room. The sports bar was a furnace. No cooling while we sat and waiting 45 minutes for sub par food. We eventually started to order double the food because an order of wings is 4 wings…45 to 60 min for 4 wings…so we order by the 2s and 3s. The juice drinks they make took so long we asked for a bottle of rum there as well just to get to the point. Again we were told no and instead given a dozen cups of little swishes of liquor. Also for some reason all drinks is served with no ice and the juice was always warm. That made no sense. The zen hibachi restaurant was closed except for one night, so was jade the Japanese place. A lot of places was always closed which was a pain in the butt especially when the 5p to 9p window to eat dinner is small as it is. You got 4 hours to decide if you’re gonna starve because the one thing they do promptly is close restaurants at quitting time Pool - The water was warm which I liked but the pool had a lot of sand in there. It appears none of the guest rinse off sand before getting in. I started calling it the pool-beach. Chlorine in there is very strong. I assume due to COVID possibly..idk any other guesses as to why so much. Goggles would be a strong suggestion if you visit for some reason and cherish your eye sight. The pool day 2 had a lot of litter in it. I don’t see how when places to eat don’t let you bring out food…only place that did let us take something to go was the breakfast buffet. They were kind there. Mostly the women were miserable and catty (and I’m a woman and it was a tad much for me) The grounds - the grounds is beautiful, even the lazy river was cute. The greenery was well trimmed and cared for. The water slides were off until the 3rd day. Also be mindful if you’re bringing children, folks smoke weed everywhere. They were on the beach, by the bar, in the pool, in the sitting area, practically any place you can think of at any given time. You can thank a dude name Captains Sticky that like to solicit hotel guests for that. My hubby is a tad nosy and went over when captains sticky called him and to his surprise got an offer for a ziplock bag of weed our first day there waiting on line for the jerk hut. Smh… By the 3rd day the birthday girl exploded at her birthday dinner at the steakhouse after asking dozens of times if they really put any liquor in any of the drinks. They served her steak with no steak knife and then when she bit it, it was salty. I think that sent her over the most. She just up and left after cake was served. She went to her room to pack her luggage. I went up and did the same. At this point I feel like I want my money back or to be comped somehow because there is no way this level of service is appropriate. What I paid did not match the experience and my 8 guests that came with me agree. There need to be upgrades to the one bedroom rooms (what was shown online wasn’t what I got put in. I believe that what they showed as reorientation of the 1br was really the 2BR suite), some repairs are definitely needed, changes to how and what they serve in the restaurants and room service. The bar need to change the quality of their drinks. I understand it’s a COVID era but if you’re not able to accommodate guest they shouldn’t open vs charge full price and then skimp on things in every way possible - on food portions, food variety, drinks, towels for the pool (I wont get into that this review is long enough), and available butlers…it’s not fair. And let me end this review by saying if the resort isn’t interested in making this situation right then there’s no need to ask me to reach out. I am terribly disappointed in this experience with all the hoops I had to jump through with COVID testing, declarations and travel authorizations to enter Jamaica I should’ve came back happy and not one of us out of 11 is happy. ** IMPORTANT - there is no bellhop to take your luggage downstairs if you intend to leave for an early flight home. Our flight was 9:30 am. Our shuttle to MBJ came at 5:45Am. We had to struggle downstairs with 5 pieces of luggage to the lobby. No carts, no help, just huffing across the grounds all the way to the front all alone.
