Excellence Oyster Bay is often celebrated for its clean, well-maintained facilities and the friendly, attentive staff that enhance the guest experience. Nestled in a secluded location with private beaches, the scenery earns high marks, although the distance from the airport is noted.
Despite the praise for the hotel's ambiance and the diverse amenities offered, some travelers express concerns over the value, pointing out overpriced services and underwhelming food options. The rooms are generally appreciated for their space and views, yet inconsistency in upkeep is mentioned.

EXCELLENT! Detailed Review Below!
I will start by saying that this is by and far the best resort I have ever stayed at in my life! Me and my girlfriend at the time (now fiancé) stayed for a week in July and we are both raving about everything the resort had to offer. I had never heard of the Excellence Collection of hotels before finding them through some YouTube searches, but I would 10000% book with them again in a heartbeat.
I proposed to my now fiancé during our stay and I want to give a huge shoutout to Shantaul & Toni-Ann in the Excellence Club Concierge department for their persistence in helping make everything come together! Without them helping me months in advance, I would have never been able to pull it off. I also want to shout out Thimera in the Magna Restaurant for her excellent service, Winston the lifeguard, and Chef Biscuit the Hibachi chef in the Spice Restaurant.
EXCELLENCE CLUB:
If available and you can afford just the slight increase in price, I would definitely recommend going for the Excellence Club upgrade. With the Excellence Club you get unlimited top shelf liquor in your room, restocked minibar every single day (water, soda, beer, snacks, etc.), the room service staff brings by fresh small pastries and candies everyday. Upgraded Blvgari toiletries in your room. You get access to the Magna & Zenith Club restaurants, Zenith has the BEST view. Access to the Excellence Club Beach and Cielo bar. And of course you get to deal with the Excellence Club Concierge which is separate from the standard concierge in the main lobby. When checking in, the concierge asked our favorite color, favorite scent, and our pillow firmness! I have never been asked that before at a resort so I was pleasantly shocked.
ROOMS:
Our room was an Excellence Club Junior Suite with a Private Pool (Room 6056). I was worried that having a room on the ground level would mean our view of the ocean would be blocked by the Beach Houses, but the location of our room had a perfect view of the ocean right between Beach Houses 8 & 9, through the Excellence Club Beach. The room itself was HUGE! About 900 square feet which I believe includes the deck and pool. Everything inside was very modern, Jack and Jill sick, separate room for toilet, rain shower, two TV’s one facing the bed, one in the “living room” facing the couch, a full walk in closet, our own indoor tub (I believe all of the rooms have the tub), and of course our own private pool. I have never had a room with a private pool before and cannot reiterate how amazing it was. I highly recommend getting the same type of room if available. I was worried about the privacy of the pool being that there are rooms right above you looking down on you, but rarely were there ever people out on their balconies when we were out there. And there is enough vegetation around the pool where people walking by don’t have a clear view of you in the pool.
GROUNDS/ATMOSPHERE:
First impression when getting to the resort is pulling up to a beautiful gigantic gate that security must open to enter (almost feels like entering a castle), followed by a long drive to the actual main building of the resort. The resort is on its own peninsula, so it is the only one in the vicinity. You are greeted with champagne, cool cucumber scented towels and they will bring you to anywhere on the resort in a golf cart if you wish. The main building is not the most grand I have ever seen but by all means still beautiful. Everywhere is white, stone, marble, and tile. And the grass, trees, bushes, and flowers are all gorgeous and impeccably kept. Every single morning you will see no less than 10-15 workers tending to the grounds cutting bushes, grass, trimming trees, etc. And with that the property always looks fantastic during the day and at night. The overall atmosphere of the resort is more relaxed and elegant. Typically the outside areas are mostly quiet and you can easily hear the waves crashing on the beach. Speaking of the beach, there can be at times some seaweed but it is really not that bad at all. The water is crystal clear blue and the sand is beautifully white and there are plenty of umbrellas, free cabanas, and seating for everyone. There are 5 public pools on the resort, although non-Excellence Club guests can only access three. Two of the public pools would be considered the “main pools”, one side is more of the loud side where there is the swim up bar and music and pool games are played daily. And the other side is the quiet side, or what we were told the “hangover” side lol. There is another pool up top at the X-Lounge that has a great view of the ocean from above. The other two pools for Excellence Club members are by the Excellence Club Lounge by the Magna Restaurant, and by the Zenith Restaurant near the Beach Villas. I would say the Zenith pool is the nicest of them all because it has the BEST view of the ocean and palm trees surrounding. One complaint that we had about the grounds (which was not the resort's fault in any way) was the amount of mosquitos. They did their best to combat them as much as possible and we didn’t seem to have that many issues outdoors, but we actually had the most issues in our room. We would find a lot of mosquitos flying around the room and would often wake up with more bites on ourselves. This is definitely not a make or break for the resort in any way as this seems to be an issue for the whole island, not just the resort. We would just suggest packing one of those plug in devices that attracts mosquitoes for your room. That would have definitely been a big help.
STAFF:
I have not a single thing bad to say about the staff. Everyone we encountered was extremely friendly and were always willing to help. One funny detail is that mostly all the staff when asked how they are will always say “excellent”, or have an “excellent day”. A play on the resort name which I thought was a very funny and cool touch. Almost everyone you check in with, whether it be at the clubs or lounges, restaurants, or concierge will always ask you where you ate that day or the previous day. They will ask what you had, how the service was, and was there anything they could look into for you or do to make your stay better. Which was very nice to know that they are always seeking feedback. Every single staff member at every restaurant will always ask if there are any allergies or dietary restrictions, which was another nice touch. And like mentioned previously, they are always cleaning and tending to the property and there are always staff around to assist with anything. From the concierge, to the bartenders, to the maids, to the waiters, to the bellmen, I have nothing bad to say about any of them.
FOOD:
Oh my goodness. The food at this resort is incredible. The biggest highlight for us was all the pastries and bread. They were always fresh, fluffy and absolutely delicious and made us always ask for seconds. There are 10 restaurants on the property with 2 being exclusive for Excellence Club members (Magna & Zenith). We were able to try each one and pretty much every food item we had was fresh, delicious and beautifully presented. “The Kitchen Table” which is the breakfast buffet restaurant had tons of options for breakfast for international travelers (European, asian, etc.), of course the standard American breakfast options, as well as traditional Jamaican breakfast options. We would say that our favorites were Zenith (Excellence Club only) and Spice the Hibachi restaurant. They have Hibachi and non-Hibachi in the restaurant, but that is the only restaurant on the property that requires a reservation 24 hours in advance. All other restaurants we walked up to and were seated immediately. All restaurants have a dress code for each meal of the day, which they enforce very strictly. Some restaurants require long pants for men, and dresses for women, while others men are allowed to wear shorts. But in all restaurants no matter what meal, men are not allowed to wear tank tops, a minimum of a short sleeve shirt. This was annoying the first time as I didn’t know and had to go back to the room to change. But it does elevate the resort to another level and shows they really care about their appearance and image overall.
ENTERTAINMENT:
Like stated before, this resort is more classy and elegant. So if you are looking for parties all day and night across the whole resort, this is probably not the place for you. But that does not mean there were no parties and entertainment at the resort at all. Everyday there was live music, or games, or dance parties by the main pool. And every night there are live shows in the theater (we saw Michael Jackson shows, Bob Marley, Reggae, Rock and Roll). The talent at the theater shows is very good and we were thoroughly impressed. And typically before the main show they always have a smaller show outside of the theater. We saw acrobatics, saxophone soloists, singers, dancers. A few nights they had silent disco which was very fun. And most nights they keep the party going in the Sports Bar after the Theater show is over. During the day there are plenty of other activities to do such as kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, sailing, snorkeling, archery, ping pong, blackjack, bike tours, beach yoga, arts and crafts, etc. which are all included. All of the activities are clearly outlined each day in the Excellence Collection App. Which by the way, is wonderful! The app is used for everything from all restaurant menus, activities schedule, speaking with concierge through chat, room service, excursions, etc. There is WiFi EVERYWHERE on the resort for the app to work. And for everything else requiring WiFi on your phone. We were even on the beach and in the ocean and we still had a good WiFi signal!
BONUS TIPS:
- Schedule the private candlelight dinner on the beach, it is fantastic and worth the money. If you say you are staying at the resort to celebrate your anniversary or honeymoon, they even upgrade you more and provide the dinner, extra spa services, and other discounts all complimentary.
- Schedule the by ocean couples massage and the Hydrotherapy session at the Mile Spa. The massage is at a beautiful location right on the beach, and having a 1 hour and 15 minute massage hearing the waves crashing is surreal. And the Hydrotherapy session is awesome going through multiple different pools, showers, saunas, body scrubs, etc.
- Bring bug spray or something to combat mosquitos! As I mentioned before…
- If there is no golf cart around, be prepared to walk about 5 minutes from one end of the resort to the other. The resort is pretty big.
- You can probably find excursions for going outside of the resort cheaper online, the excursions through the resort seemed to be more expensive.
- Enjoy and RELAX! It’s EXCELLENT!!

Our first time at an excellence resort and will not be our last. We signed up for Mobay Club and we were greeted right off the airplane with a very nice lady who got us through customs promptly and connected us to our driver. We used Top Choice Tours and I would highly recommend using them. The drivers were very informative and friendly.
The service was beyond incredible at this resort. It’s quite small so you see the same faces every day. The entertainment crew were all lovely people who did a fantastic job with all the activities, especially aqua aerobics! Jovan, crazy Kenny, Kyash, Shereia, zoey, Nick, Daniella, Kimron, are only some of them but they all took the time to get to know us and make sure we were included and entertained. I wanted to play beach volleyball and Jovan made sure that I got a game so he worked hard and got so many fun people to come play. I am very thankful for him. He remembered our names after we first met.
We ate at Magna almost every morning. We were greeted by Shelaine at the host desk each morning and after a couple of days she knew our room number the second she saw us. Shevanise was our waitress. She was such a kind and friendly lady. The staff goes the extra mile to make everyone feel like they belong.
The resort was stunning, perfect size and always something to do. We upgraded to excellence club (definitely worth the money) and had a room with a pool. We honestly didn’t use the pool once as it was too much fun everywhere else. The private pools are quite cold and don’t get a ton of sun but I loved laying out on our sunbed in the afternoon.
The rooms are big with lots of counter space. I wish we had a table to play cards with. Apparently some rooms have them (we asked for one but they were not able to accommodate). The maids do a phenomenal job cleaning the rooms and I enjoyed turn down service at night as well (they take all the dirty towels away and close the curtains).
We were never bored at this resort and I don’t think we ever had a bad meal. By far the best activities and food I’ve had at an all inclusive. just remember some restaurants will take a long time for dinner. Not that you are waiting a long time for food just that the whole experience can take a very long time. *tip* get your drink at the bar downstairs before you go up to eat. It will save at least 20 minutes. Also the food portions aren’t super big so order everything that looks appealing.

We got our usual welcome of "Welcome home!" when we arrived at the resort, along with a cocktail before we even entered the building. And we definitely felt at home right away. Our room was ready way before 3pm and was spotless. The resort was doing construction on several of the rooms in our building, so I would ask ahead of time to be in a building not under construction if you plan on spending lots of time in the room. There were loud bangs and bumps throughout the day when we ran back to the room to change. We did not spend much time in the room so it didn't bother us, but I can see it being an annoyance if you were in the room trying to relax.
The entertainment staff at Oyster Bay are friendly, fun and always willing to give out great info about the island. Daniella, Reeree, Jaselle, Kamrin, Kenny and Kash made our stay memorable for sure! Take the bike ride with Kash in the morning. He's full of fun facts about the fishing, farming and general lifestyle of the island.
The food was similar to other Excellence resorts but there is a bit more of a wait for service than we have had at other locations. We just brought a drink with us to make sure we had something right when we sat down.
The bars are spread out over the property and the staff at all were friendly and attentive. Sabrina at the Cielo bar was fabulous!!!! Everyone knew what we were drinking by the end of the day, and would have one ready for us when they saw us coming.
The mini bar staff that fill up your refrigerator are great and will get whatever you like if you leave a note or let them know how to stock your fridge every day, if you have preferences.
The pool was a fun atmosphere with activities and music throughout the day if you want to participate. There is a quieter side of the pool and the ocean is RIGHT there if you wanted a calmer atmosphere.
On another note....
We used a local taxi company for less than half the cost of the agency provided by the Resort. The taxi driver was pleasant and professional and stopped on the way for us to pick up ANYTHING we needed from local shops. Bargaining is expected and we negotiated for most souvenir type items.

On another note....
We used a local taxi company for less than half the cost of the agency provided by the Resort. The taxi driver was pleasant and professional and stopped on the way for us to pick up ANYTHING we needed from local shops. Bargaining is expected and we negotiated for most souvenir type items.

To be fair, if this is your first experience with an All-Inclusive Adult Resort, the property is nice enough to distract you from recognizing that it’s struggling to be a 5 Star Resort.
Unfortunately for me because I’ve stayed in other silimiarly advertised resorts on Jamaica, Excellence fell short of what I would expect for what I paid for. The staff is unorganized and seemingly untrained, to do even the simplest things like escort you to your room or bring your luggage up in a timely fashion. (I called twice and eventually had to walk downstairs a get someone to bring it up).
Service is beyond island time. I waited over ten minutes for a drink, (the ice was melted by the time it arrived), and thirty for my meal which was adequate. There isn’t much beach front to this property and the little that there is, there are just a few beach lounges available. The only way to guarantee a lounge or get a pool raft, is if you opted to pay more and become an Excellence Club Member. (As a matter of fact I noticed by the end of my trip, unless you were part of this exclusive membership, you were not given the attention to detail as these folks were.) So if your not lucky enough to get a lounge in the small beach area in front of the main restaurant and bar, you need to walk a distance to an area that is not very well maintained hoping there is a lounge chair you can drag along the sand so your not sitting in the water. Naturally there is no drink service to speak of at the this far end of the beach. Unless someone happens to notice you and then regardless if you tip them might come back. Despite this minimal service be ready to wait a long time for your drink. I was so tired of waiting that I eventually opted to take the 10 minute truck back to the bar since, it was “faster”.
The food is “ok” and the buffet is nothing out of the ordinary. Avoid the “Flavor Market” if your hungry. I do recommend making reservations at pricesly 4:00 that same day at the “Spice” restaurant for the hibachi grill. It was the best meal and entertainment the whole trip! Whenever I went to grab jerk chicken at the “Jerk Hut”, I needed to wait. To only eat on my lap as there are no tables nearby to sit at or leave your empty plates. Two times during my five day stay the “X-Lounge” was closed to the public for a private function. With a sign that reads- “sorry for any inconvenience”. The evening entertainment is amateur and not worth staying up for.
Overall while the property is pretty and they make an effort so everything around you glitters, for the price you are paying you’re definitely not getting gold. In the end it served its purpose to be a good get away from the cold northeast temperatures, but I suggest if you plan on a longer vacation paying probably similar price with transfers included, you might want to consider other all inclusive resorts on this beautiful island.

We visited EOB in January for NYE and felt it was simply amazing. The resort is beautiful and modern; because of this we loved the feel of it slightly more compared to the other Excellence resorts. We’ve been to ERC and EPM and we both voted EOB as our favorite. We loved the warm and welcoming people, the relaxed vibe and great service, food, and drinks.
First, the staff and service was so amazing start to finish. The staff always went out of their way to hello or ask if there was anything we needed. The servers at the restaurants are attentive and super sweet. We also regularly received poolside service as we hung around the main pool and the Magna pool. Plenty of comfortable chairs all over the resort.
Special thanks to Rickie at the Zenith bar who helped me very quickly locate and get ahold of my purse that I left halfway across the resort at xLounge one night. I had the purse back within 15 minutes, with everything completely intact, and lots of laughs and friendly teasing from the staff who helped. Also thanks to Oswald and Romaro at the Martini bar for the great drinks and more laughs.
Oregano (jerk pizza and lasagna) and The Grill were our favorite meals. Although we had great service and food the whole time. We never waited too long and always either really liked or loved our food.
Housekeeping was also great. Our room was cleaned right on time and we never came back to the room wondering why it hadn’t been serviced. We loved the modern feature of being able to signal for housekeeping or do not disturb with the touch of a button on the panel beside the door.
I loved that the main pool was heated as it was wonderfully warm for this time of year while the others had a chill you could get used to. Magna infinity pool was our favorite. No bug bites during the whole trip.
Last, if your looking to come to EOB for NYE we would highly recommend it. The New Year festivities were great. Fire dancers, DJ, fireworks, and acrobats to name a few. It was definitely one of the best New Years we’ve had.
We are very sad to leave and will most definitely return as soon as we can!

This was our first trip to Jamaica.looking at previous reviews i thought this might be the place to enjoy a relaxing vacation.
When i booked it said private pool, however private here means yours only, but actually very exposed to the rest of the resort.
The kind bed was ok
Food was way below average. So i am pescaterian and i have to say almost all of their food was super SALTY to the point you cant eat it. The lobester hide has great pumpkin soup, and lobester.everything else was just a stomach filler. The pizza from Oregano was not edible and could work if you want high blood pressure. The French resturant is by far one of the worset sea food i ate in my life. The red snaper was nothing but a bundle of salt i had to return it.
The deserts were also horrible, besdie the creme burlee from the French resturant.
There was mold in our room, and the cleaning crew were told about it but never cleaned it.
I asked for an iron and iron board, they don't have it.what kind of 5 star doesn't have that? They have a steamer which takes forever to work!
I asked for the alcohol to be removed from the room, they said they can't! Seriously!!!
The one thing that stood out, was the people working there. They are extent respectful, but not easily accommodating. Thats why i give 2 stars. I have been in 3, 4, and 5 star hotels. This is definitely not a 5 star. Just because you have all you can eat/drink doesn't mean 5 star.
Definitely will not be returning there.

Review Time! 💚🖤💛🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲
So my husband and I stayed 6 nights in the Excelence Club Honeymoon Ocean Front Suite (not the one with the rooftop plunge pool). It was absolutely stunning with breathtaking uninterrupted views. Upon arrival, we used Club Mobay which I HIGHLY RECOMMEND. We passed extremely long lines quickly only to be brought into the club mobay lounge and greeted with cold towels and rum punch! It was such a pleasant experience. Our stay at the resort was AMAZING. The staff really made everything that much better! They are all so nice and accommodating, constantly asking if we needed anything. 2 of the nights that we stayed, the front desk called up to our room asking how our stay was and if there was anything we needed. We also ordered room service twice and each time it was at our door no later than 45 minutes and very delicious I might add! Kudos to the entertainment staff as well, Kash, Crazy Kenny, and Daniela particularly for always keeping things alive. Our favorite dinners were at Zenith and Magna. We ate at The Grill, Spice, Chez Isabelle, Lobster House, Oregano, and Kitchen Table. Never once did we experience a long wait or bad service. The food was always good and just enough! (They don’t feed you huge portions like we are used to in America which me and my husband really appreciated). Our waiter at Zenith (his name was Dane) was the most professional gentleman. He by far elevated our experience and took it above and beyond. He also even took pictures of us on my phone when our desert was served (we didn’t even ask for pictures so it took us pleasantly by surprise) and after our amazing meal he walked us out downstairs and we said our goodbyes.
On our last night, we had our private beach dinner (came with the excellence honeymoon package). Our server was Carlton and WOW did he deliver! Me and my husband were so impressed by his professionalism and knowledge of the excellence brand. You can tell he truly loves what he does and is genuine about it. He made great conversation and always made sure our glasses were not even close to empty. Absolutley amazing customer service on his part. If anyone is having a beach dinner for any type of occasion, I highly recommend having Carlton as your server. What an amazing person and awesome experience he gave us! Coming here, my husband and I had an open mind (along reading many mixed reviews about this place). We are also not picky people when it comes to certain things. But I must say, the service, the staff, the nightly entertainment, everything was by far the best experience we have ever. It is so easy to tell just how hard working and happy the staff is here. Excellence Oyster Bay Jamaica, we will be back soon 🇯🇲💚🖤💛

+1
Stayed at the resort in February 2020. The resort will be 2 yrs old in June 2020. We purchased an excellence club ocean front room which was located on the 3rd floor of the main building. The room was extremely large and modern with a walk-in closet walk-in shower double sinks separate toilet black out curtains with a balcony a daybed on it with 2 Muskoka chairs. It had a very large Jacuzzi tub that overlooked the ocean. There was also a second daybed beside the Jacuzzi.
The food was outstanding at Every restaurant we went to. No matter if it was the two excellence club restaurants magna and zenith or any of the regular à la cart restaurants. the friendly staff and service everywhere exceeded my expectations!
There were more than enough lounges by the beach and the pool for everyone no need to get up early to save loungers. No bracelets were required for the resort and you can take as many towels by the beach and pool area as you wish. No beach vendors!!!
The evening entertainment was good. Almost every night they had entertainers that actually could sing and not lip-sync
This is definitely a resort that I would be going back to!

After spending a considerable amount of money (enough for 2 trips had we chosen different locations for our 5star vacation), we were left feeling quite disappointed in our trip to Jamaica.
The hotel was built 18 months ago, however when you look closely at the small details it looks much older, lots of maintenance needed and apparently not being done.
We paid for an upgraded room which included our own plunge pool. Room was nice on arrival, however of the 6 blocks of rooms, it quickly became apparent that only the first block (2 block) actually had sun after 10am in the morning, therefore the private pool (which was freezing!) and private deck area was pointless and unusable. we were located in block 4.
During the first night we were kept awake all night by the motor running the pool filter, which sounded like a bath being drained all night.
The next day I asked to move rooms and they were able to accommodate and we ended up in the second block so the sun issue was no longer an issue which was nice.
Strange “quirk” about the bedroom in our room however is that there is a full ceiling to floor window right next to the bed, with a full wall mirror opposite, and a transparent blind that is the only coverage. So anyone walking up the path looks directly into your room, so at night if you have a tv or any light on, people can see EVERYTHING!
The beach at the resort was almost non existent. For the majority it is no more than 6ft from the garden area to the sea, some areas even less. This was very disappointing. There are loungers and beds along the water front however there were a noticeable qty of the beds that looked moldy and dirty and were not usable!
Food; there are a bunch of A la Carte restaurants at the resort, however over all they were disappointing. The Grill took well over an hour to get our main meal and we ended up getting a steak Very undercooked and a fish dish we hadn’t ordered. We ate at the Lobster house most days after the first two disappointing A la carte meals as this was the best of the restaurants.
There was no evening buffet available which meant with the exception of one night there was virtually no “Jamaican” food available.
Compared to Cuba which is renowned for poor food, I think this was not much better!
The lack of Jamaican culture for the week long trip meant that you honestly could have been anywhere, it was quite disappointing.
The bar staff and kitchen staff were great and for the most part made the trip.
The vast majority of the guests at the hotel were much older.
Over all I would not recommend this hotel, we could have gone 5 star in the Dominican to a resort such as Secrets for 2 weeks for the same price we paid here for 1 week and had a similarly good experience but with nicer beaches and a sun drenched swim up room and better food.
We left feeling cheated and disappointed

Very disappointing experience at the Excellence in Oyster Bay and I would not recommend. If you've stayed at either facility in Mexico then you would be extremely disappointed with Oyster Bay! Very slow to no service, bartenders rude and at times obnoxious and little to no service pool side. We paid for the upgrade and received nothing like we experienced in the other facilities. At checkout no one ever showed up and we had to walk our bags down to front lobby. Several carts passed us and no one even stopped! Housekeeping didn't show up until 4pm one day and didn't show up at all in another couple's room we were with until they called. They need to take staff from Mexico Excellence resorts and train the Oyster Bay staff properly! Do not pay for the upgrade as it was a complete waste of money!
Entertainment crew was the only upside to Oyster Bay.
