The Barcelo Isla Canela**** hotel has just been refurbished in 2016 in the style of a traditional Andalusian village. It is situated right on an extensive beach of fine, golden sand within the tourist complex of Isla Canela, in the historic town of Ayamonte, Huelva, just a few minutes from the exotic Portuguese Algarve. In addition, it is located 45 minutes from the international airport in Portugal and an hour and a half from Seville Airport.
The new rooms stand out for their brightness, comfort and facilities such as SAT-TV, air conditioning and heating, a safe deposit box and minibar. Many rooms have wonderful sea views, where you can enjoy the breeze and colours of the Costa de la Luz (Coast of Light). The hotel offers free Wi-Fi both in the rooms as well as throughout the hotel and facilities.
The hotel offers its guests some outstanding cuisine, which has been recognised by our customers and awarded as some of the best in the chain, in terms of satisfaction and guest care.
In addition to the breathtaking views, the hotel features stunning gardens, a fantastic swimming pool area and exciting sports and leisure programs designed by our hotel team each week.
Great hotel or short break, lovely grounds and pool. Comfortable beds, and good showers. The bar is large with a couple of pool tables and other games. The hotel can be noisy late at night if people are sitting outside, but I just wore ear plugs and it was fine, most hotels are the same so don’t let the one negative put you off.
Why do I do this to myself? Every few years I end up at one of these chain all inclusives. And they are all uniformly mediocre, culturally devoid wastelands of the most bland, insipid cuisine, utterly lacking in the local culture, and crowded with horrible rude tourists with absolutely no inkling of civilized manners. Barceló Isla Canela is the prototype of this kind of mass, industrialized tourism. The area nearby is all tourist developments, although there is a real Spanish town with actual local people who are wonderful to interact with about 5 km away. One could easily be in any part of the world as far as the resort area goes; there is nothing to distinguish the immediate area from the Yucatán or Miami. The guests are about 95% retirees and will disabuse you quickly of any idea that people develop character and respect for others as they get older. God help you if you get between them and the buffet, because they will run you over in a mad stampede for the food. You would think they were refugees that hadn’t eaten in weeks. Cutting the queue is standard operating procedure for these folks. These people are like animals. You’ll find better behavior in an elementary school cafeteria. And speaking of the food, it’s neither good nor is it bad. It’s just bland. And much of it is from a can. The hot dishes are cold and the cold dishes are warm. Every. Single. Time. I will say that the positives are in the room interiors. The beds are nice and the pillows exquisite. The housekeeping is well done. Do yourself a favor and go to almost any real city or town in Spain and enjoy the culture and the cuisine. Or be like me and suffer your poor judgement, because you know how the experience will be.…
We spent our last holidays in this beautiful hotel in Andalucia, Spain. Was perfect to relax, enjoy the pools and the rich buffet. All the staff are polite and friendly. The rooms confortable. A good choise for our holidays
The rooms aren't soundproof. Too close to the Entertainement center, and even with our balcony doors closed, we could hear the noise. Also, all of a sudden, we found ourselves "packed" in our rooms, with neighbours above, below, and on the sides. No good night sleep granted, at all. According to rules, the hotel was supposed to be until 75% booked. The reception told us it was "only" 70% booked. This whole noisy rooms situation made our vacation very stressful, with uncertainty about sleeping well, especially because we had sport trainings to do next day, and could not totally recover. We heard all toilets flush, foot steps, slamming doors, voices. The cleaners are cleaning from early in the morning, also not allowing us to sleep a bit later that 08h30. We heard the wheels of the cleaning cars and voices outside of our room :-( For us, vacation also means a relaxing and a healthy good night sleep, not only "relaxing" in front of a swimming pool, which was also not "relaxing" at all due to such crowd, not understandable or sensible in corona times. No distance rules respected. People are allowed to smoke in the swimming pool area, even in front of our children. The hotel doesn't have vegetarian products to the buffet such as lactose free yoghurt, lactose free cheese, white meat slices for bread, tofu, bulgur, quinoa, beans, or brown bread. The gym room is far from good. It is too tiny and basic. Moreover, the reception needs to know more about local information. Every time we asked for information, they didn't know and sent us to "Google" it. If we are asking it is because we have already "Googled" it and because we believe local knowledge is greater than ours, otherwise we wouldn't ask. The laundry service is theft. 3 EUR for washing a t-shirt. Honestly, we think they would earn more by installing a couple of washing machines and allowing their clients to use them for a decent prize, especially for clients with children, like us. Furthermore, we have stayed in other opportunities and in other locations at Barceló, and the Entertainment wasn't the best this year. We think it might be because of the corona situation and the lack of artist. Internet was slow and not consistent. Finally, a compliment to the Barcy club for being so nice and dedicated to the children! In short, our stay in this Barceló was frustrating and not relaxing at all. We were actually happy to leave, thinking about what could have gone better... This is such a pity.…
Reception was very efficient and knowledgeable. Breakfast and dinner were very good. You could pick your own meat/fish and it would be freshly cooked for you. A really good variety for both breakfast and dinner. The best food was the sushi for dinner one evening. The day time and evening entertainment was very professional. The staff very friendly and efficient. The gardens with flowing fountains are beautiful. Our room had everything in it that we needed and was very clean. The pool is huge and there are plenty of sun loungers. The hotel is across from the beach where there are chiringuito's on the beach. One of them served up fresh barbequed fish. We would definitely stay there again and highly recommend this hotel.
