Have just returned from another weeks holiday here. Again we had a lovely, relaxing week but did find a few niggles that made this holiday not as good as our first visit last year. Firstly, I must impress what a lovely location and hotel this is. The food and drinks are excellent, the standard of food and choice is wonderful. The pool and outside grounds are well maintained and very pleasant. Reception and entertainment areas in the hotel are all of a high standard and very comfortable. Bedrooms are of a good size and beds super king size and very comfortable. The hotel staff without exception work very hard and are very welcoming and seldom without a smile and greeting. It was my husband's birthday during our stay and they left a half bottle of white port and cakes in the bedroom which was a lovely gesture and surprise, thank you again. The animation team work really hard entertaining both children and adults all day and then during the evening as well. So, why did I not enjoy this holiday as much ? Well, a few negatives and only my opinion and how it made me feel.... Our room was a lot smaller than the one during our first visit, had two broken floor tiles next to the side of the bed with sharp edges that you could have cut your feet on. The bed linen was not changed at all during our weeks stay but then on the last night I did find in quite small print on a little card that if you wanted your linen changed you were to leave the card on your bed. A great idea to save water and energy but pity it wasn't explained on arrival. Last year we stayed a week earlier and the hotel, although full, was a lot quieter with less children and mainly adults. Last week the hotel seemed very full and crowded with children and young families as it was apparently the start of the Spanish holidays. Fair enough after all it is a Spanish hotel but resulted in rush for sunbeds and a scrum in the restaurant to first find a table then to get your food during busy times. The noise level in the restaurant at times was also almost unbearable between children, mobiles ringing and people being rude enough to have lengthy conversations on their phones. All of this didn't really equate to a relaxing atmosphere in which to enjoy the lovely food. My main gripe however and this may sound very childish and petty is with the animation team whom I found to be downright rude. I must say that I would not probably join in any of the activities but was never asked, in fact our presence was never acknowledged by any of the animation team during the whole week apart from twice one of the young girls said 'ola' as she passed our sunbeds with lots of children. Last year all of the team members took the time to speak to you, say hello, invite you to join activities and were very pleasant. This year I felt humiliated on several occasions when male team members stopped and talked to everyone around us but not a word to us, not even 'ola', one time one of the men invited everyone around us to join in making sangria but then he looked down at us then turned his head away. The same team member during the evening entertainment of a singing duo literally went round every table speaking to people and again completely ignored us walking right past us a few times, we were gobsmacked. I actually found it very hard to not go and say something to him but I was too hurt and far to angry. I must add to this that as far as I could work out everyone they spoke to were Spanish. Maybe they don't speak any English, maybe they don't think we are worth even a hello in the passing or a smile, maybe English tourists are not welcome at this hotel anymore because this is how it made us feel and I will never return because of this. We are paying guests the same as everyone else and a smile or ola at least is not too much to expect rather than being completely excluded, ignored and left feeling very unwelcome. I'm sorry but I found them to just be rude and ignorant. Our departure was early the next day which is a pity because I would really have liked the opportunity to have discussed this with the hotel manager. So constructive criticism / ideas on how to improve your service : Maintenance of bedrooms especially when it involves sharp broken tiles that could injure visitors Would have been nice to have a small separate area within the dining room for adults only. Perhaps a polite notice requesting people to refrain from using mobile phones in the dining room, if your call can't wait take it outside. Find animation team members with some manners, social skills and interest in interacting with all of your guests not just your Spanish visitors. We had planned on probably coming back here for a good few years as we love the area and had found everything so perfect last year but after our experience this year of how your animation team made us feel if we do return to the area I expect we would stay elsewhere which is a shame as the hotel is lovely as are the rest of the staff.

Hotel's Favorite
Myself and my husband stayed at this hotel last week and we had an amazing time. The hotel and grounds are immaculately clean as are the rooms. The beds were comfortable and the rooms large. There was so much food we never went hungry. Steak night was amazing, the chef cooking them that night was lovely and working so hard to cope with demand. There were plenty of fruits cheese ,bread, pasta etc etc every night so always choice. The staff were amazing and so friendly apart from one younger girl on the Saturday morning she was very grouchy and never smiled. Everyone else worked so hard to ensure we had a nice time, the entertainment team are amazing! The meet and greet, reception staff and dining staff, bar staff are all so nice and work so hard, even dealing with noisy unpleasant rude guests in a nice manner which I wouldnt be able to do. The pool was too cold for me, but my husband swam a bit, it was very clean though and plenty of sun loungers. We walked to the beach a few times a nice short walk and lovely clean beach. Not a lot to do nearby but we came to relax and we definitely did! Upgraded to a suite for my husbands birthday and it was amazing. Stunning views and loads of room. The air con smelled which was the only negative thing. I would definitely return and pay for a suite next time as the double room was great but the suite was amazing. Thank you to all the staff who work soo hard.

Just arrived home after a wonderful week at the Iberostar Isla Canela. The hotel is looking over a beautiful beach, with a long promenade down to the Marina. We were upgraded to a priority location room, its view was fabulous! All the staff were friendly, helpful and hardworking. The food was superb! So much variety it was always difficult to choose. Fresh fish every day, wonderful meat dishes and fresh vegetables and salads. Iberostar you excelled yourself. Thank you for a wonderful relaxing time.

I initially had a mix up at check in however the amazing team of Antonio and Juan helped to clear everything up and make my stay amazing! It is important to make sure you have everything clear when you book so you get the room you have requested. The hotel is beautiful. There is a walkway along the ocean that reminds me of Newport Beach but smaller. Everything is new in the area and it feels really clean. If you want a quiet beautiful getaway this is the place. The people are so nice and you feel at home from the first day. Antonio has come to me every day to make sure my stay is perfect. That is customer service! The food and entertainment is also first class! I can’t wait to come back and possibly move here for part of the year.

We are most fortunate to have enjoyed our third stay at this wonderful hotel in the last 20 months. For us, it is unbeatable. They have got things just right! Over the years, we have enjoyed many Iberostar Hotels and, for us, this is the jewel in their crown. This hotel is bright, roomy and adjacent to a huge, long and quiet beach. The hotel is located in a relatively quiet area with a marina, some small shops and bars located within a 5 minutes walk. The nearest small town is Ayamonte, (5km), which itself is located on the Spain / Portuguese border. There is a good hourly bus service to and from Ayamonte. Organised trips from the hotel include a day in Seville and other more local, cultural excursions. The staff at this hotel are just incredible. They are all friendly and work so hard; many work split-shifts to ensure that your needs are catered for. The Head Chef, Emilio, takes great care to ensure that his guests are happy and well-fed. The food is always fresh, varied and plentiful. Iberostar are most fortunate to have Emilio as he is incredibly dedicated and a true asset to the hotel. Special thanks also to Jonathan, our dedicated waiter, who is extremely professional, pleasant and loyal. The management team can always be seen around the hotel ensuring the happiness and satisfaction of their guests. Each and every member of staff are very hard-working and make sure that your needs are catered for and that you enjoy your stay. Rooms are delightful and spotlessly cleaned by the special team of wonderful ladies. The hotel is well maintained and the garden areas are well manicured. Another lovely bonus for this hotel is that it is also used, mainly at weekends, by very pleasant Spanish people who are very family oriented and polite. This gives the hotel a nice atmosphere and, unlike some other major resorts, makes you feel that you are actually in Spain!! The hotel enjoys two main aspects; one over the pool to the beach and sea and the other across the salt marshes and lagoons which are a haven for wildlife. These tidal lagoons are full of fish and crabs and provide a massive protected environment for birds. We have seen Flamingos, Spoonbills, Ospreys and other unusual birds in our walks in that area. You can find more details at islacanela.es (Salinas del Duque Trail). So, once again, another fantastic time at this exceptional hotel. A really huge 'thank you' to each and everyone at the Iberostar Isla Canela. We are hoping to be back again next year. Mucho gracias y hasta la vista !
