We stayed in U Capu Biancu for two nights of our honeymoon, a week of which that was spent touring Corsica and staying at a variety of hotels at different price points. Our overwhelming feeling after immediately leaving U Capu Biancu and reflecting on our stay afterwards in comparison to other hotels is that, despite the beautiful setting, views, grounds and pool, it is a disappointing experience for the prices charged, both for the accommodation and in the restaurant. First, it is worth mentioning that the hotel is positioned in a beautiful spot, surrounded by equally beautiful gardens. There are lots of good activities on offer: we enjoyed the boulodrome, the fitness suite, the pool and football tables. I’m sure the boat ride too would also have been enjoyable. However, these one might expect given the cost of the room at €750 per night. The restaurant: The major detraction from the hotel is the restaurant. As commented by many other guests on the U Capu Biancu Restaurant’s TripAdvisor, the food is fine, but heavily overpriced and there are limited options each night. The pricing (including for the wine) is opaque and the quality of the food does not match the cost. Our first night was “Corsican Night” which had very limited options (2 per course). I had a charcuterie board as a starter, goat and polenta stew as a main and with the dessert, this came to €85. The cocktails were similarly average in quality for the €16/18 price tags. This is such a shame as the setting is wonderful and most of the staff were very helpful. With a bit of more variety and more reasonable pricing, this could be improved. We did raise the above complaints with the hotel while we were there and we were surprised by the rather patronising response, which was, to the effect, that we may not understand that prices were high and the quality of their ingredients was very good. They emphasised that this was to be expected throughout Corsica, a fact we discovered to be completely not the case. (For example, on our penultimate night, we stayed at Les Bergeries de Palombaggia (5 stars rather than 4 and €200 a night less per room) and the standards were significantly higher across the board. The restaurant prices there were similar, but the quality of the food was infinitely higher.) On our departure from U Capu Biancu, the senior manager did speak to us and she was extremely polite and professional, but the overall arguments were the same: “Corsican prices”. The room: The room was comfortable, but as also mentioned by a previous reviewer, the shower attachment (which is within the bath) is impractical and rather annoying, and the shampoo and conditioner dispensers attached to the wall cheapen the experience. Whilst the room was spacious and comfortable, it did not live up to the expectations of a €750 per night room. Overall, this hotel has the potential to be the most amazing experience, but sadly it just falls short. Our complaints do mirror others that have been made in the past, and it’s a shame that they have not been heeded.…
