I recently returned from a birding trip arranged by Cheepers, Birding on a Budget. We had a group of 10 total people which included Cindy and Jim Beckman, the owners of the company. Cindy and Jim have known Janet and Glenn Lee for a number of years. The Lees own and operate Cielito Sur Bed and Breakfast Inn located in Bambito, Panama. Our group was small so Cindy and Jim could book the whole lodge for us. Each room has different decorations. Each is decorated with items from the various native tribes of Panama. Our room had 3 single beds plus a kitchenette and was decorated with clothing from the Ngobe-Bugle people. Other rooms had baskets or artwork from their various tribes. Our room was spacious with a wardrobe, small table and chairs and easy chair. The shower was adequate with plenty of hot water. Cielito Sur uses reverse osmosis to purify the water so it is safe to drink. The property is a bird refuge with many colors of hibiscus and bird friendly plants. There are hummingbird feeders and fruit platform feeders throughout. A female scintillant hummingbird has a nest in the ficus plant located in the patio common are. There is a large common area with wi-fi, board games, books and maps for guests to use. Each day we had the choice of a continental style breakfast or a delicious dish cooked up per order. The food and coffee are a great start for the day. If you enjoy a small family run business with all the comforts of home the Cielito Sur should be your place to stay.

We enjoyed a most pleasant stay at Cielito Sur. This idyllic 6-acre family enterprise is some magical combination of B&B, glorious garden, bird sanctuary and hopping market-sized small horticulture business. The property is located on the main roadway, close to Cerro Punta and maybe a 10 minute drive to Volcan. Once you drive through the security gate, you enter a different world. The B&B has been wonderfully designed with an engineer’s eye for detail and function. Rooms are large, clean and have sitting space, along with a desk for writing or devices. A couple have fridges. Breakfast is healthy, hot and yummy. The rest of it is just a treat to check out. Coffee harvest was underway during our visit - all stages done by hand. Hot pepper sauces were being sold. Blackberries were ready for picking. Fruit trees were laden. Sustainability is a theme here, and the passion of this 2-generation family to protect their environment, work their land and share it with us all is a bonus you can’t help but enjoy while here.

We enjoyed our stay at Cielito Sur. The room was clean with a comfortable bed and considerate touches such as a bathtub, kichenette, easy chair, and hooks to hang gear. The grounds reflects many years of cultivation with 50 types of hibiscus, a working garden, coffee plants, and chickens which contribute to tasty breakfasts which varied each day. Trails go up the forested hillside along a small stream. Busy birdfeeders provided entertainment with our morning coffee. Glen, Janet, Sean and Amanda are charming hosts knowledgeable about local attractions, wildlife, culture and history.

We recently stayed at this wonderful bed and breakfast. Glenn and his family made us feel right at home. The room was lovely and the common areas added to the charm. There were so many brilliant flowers and colorful birds all around us; we lounged in the outside chairs to watch them whenever we had the chance. We also appreciated the delicious breakfast and advice about local hikes. If we return to the area, we will definitely stay here again.

Glenn and Janet both provided a welcome and comfortable setting that was filled with wonderful birds and gardens.  Each room is decorated with its own theme based on different tribal groups that included arts, crafts and costumes based on the tribal group.  Rooms were very clean, comfortable and well appointed.  There are trails on the property that takes you by the beautiful gardens and streams.   The property attract many types of beautiful birds include various types of hummingbirds that visit the many feeders and flowers on the property.   There are many places to sit and enjoy the surroundings close to the rooms and out on the trails.  Breakfast was delicious and they worked around my many food allergies.  We enjoyed bird watching and bird talks during breakfast.  They set up a wonderful birding tour with Charlie that we enjoyed very much.
