To start off with the pros, this is indeed a hidden gem. Lovely location and surroundings. Superb piece of architecture. The staff were helpful, polite and attentive. Basically that's it. The rooms were maintained very badly and I doubt whether they were maintained at all. There were cobwebs all around. The food menu's for all three meals had a very... More

We had a lovely and wonderful two days in such a unique hideaway. The hotel is constructed in an impressive site of large boulders. Rooms are therefore quite dark, but large and comfortable. The lovely Boulder Garden designed by a student of Geoffery Bawa. It is really impressive, built right into the mountain, set in the jungle however is superb.... More

Certainly the web site to the Boulder Garden Hotel, showing all the surrounding greenery and describing the "opulently appointed guestrooms," would make one excited about visiting this remote location with all its amenities. Our first warning that all was not as described was when we drove up to the entrance. There were irregularly cut stairs all the way up to... More

This hotel is near the Sinharaja Rain Forest. There were many stairs to climb to get to reception and the restaurant--about 100. We requested a room near the hotel and our request was honored. The room was on the small side and had a comfortable bed, a tub and a shower. There were two steps up to the bathroom, which... More

I wanted to love this hotel. The surroundings are beautiful, literally within the jungle and the architecture must have been stunning at some point. I can see if being 'found' in 100 years time, covered in jungle. It is certainly on its way there now. I have no idea who runs it or manages as after three nights (far too... More

This is one of the most UNIQUE HOTELS IN THE WORLD, no doubt. Built into the rocks, fascinating architecture, built by a student of Geoffrey Bawa, with absolutely stunning features. But the place is completely run down: Where is Jetting Hotels or the Minor Group from Bangkok to give new life to this stunning and unique place? The reflecting pool... More

We stayed 1 night at the end of our 2 week tour of Sri Lanka. The staff were welcoming and provided discrete but efficient service. The buildings, carefully designed to blend into the landscape, are simply furnished but clean and comfortable. Our meal was satisfying and tasty. We enjoyed our brief stay in this unique hotel, it's remote unspoilt location... More

Amazing setting in the forest amongst huge boulders - best avoided if you're not good with steps. The access could be difficult after rain (it's near the rain forest so quite likely). Room was huge but quite dark. No air con just a couple of fans. Incredible setting for the restaurant under a huge overhanging boulder, shame the food on... More

This is a most unusual hotel built among large rocks on the side of a steep hill in the forest. Any movement outside the room itself meant going up or down very steep, uneven steps. Everything about the place seemed rather rundown, timeworn and tatty. The swimming pool was full of leaves and looked most uninviting. The various stone ponds... More
