I’ve had a villa in Sri Lanka near Galle for nearly 20 years, traveling to and from London , so I’ve rarely needed hotels here except for the stopovers in Colombo or the odd trips to the beach or Kandy. I was aware of Resplendent’s reputation as one of the best luxury hotel groups here, but had never stayed in one until the covid pandemic hit and 14 days quarantine was obligatory. Boy is their reputation deserved- they have just got it right. They obviously really understand what makes Sri Lanka such a special and uniquely beautiful country. We ( my wife Kristy and I) left Yala Tented lodge last week to stay in their sister hotel Cape Weligama. Although it’s a completely different experience from Yala it still has the same exceptional standards of service, food, design and accommodation. The views from anywhere in the hotel are literally breathtaking - the sunsets- out of this world. Even though it’s a large hotel , it’s serene and expansive gardens make it feel like a small luxurious village. The half moon pool is possibly the most beautiful in the world- certainly that i’ve ever seen. This hotel would be equally as suitable for a romantic break, a family holiday, business trip, or in our case - the best way to make the most out of being quarantined! Special mention must go to all the staff here- particularly Sheehan our designated butler who just did everything he could to help, to Nadeem and Suranga in the restaurant who attended every need, Udara the chef who we trusted to make us whatever he wished- which was always exceptionally tasty and creative, Roshan and Arul the hotel management who greeted us on arrival and were constantly attentive and helpful. So hats off to Resplendent- they obviously run a great ship- even in these very challenging, tough times. We’ve not stayed at their 3rd hotel Tea Trails, but definitely will next visit. They understand Sri Lanka better than anyone else- you don’t feel like you’re in chain like Four Seasons/ Hilton that’s generic... but you get the luxury treatment of those 5stars plus a real taste of Sri Lanka’s wonderful culture, food and people. It’s not cheap- but it’s worth every penny.

Thank you Michael for your wonderful review. I'm delighted that after 20 years visiting Sri Lanka you were finally able to experience our Resplendent hospitality. Thank you for the shout out to our passionate team. I hope to see you again for a meal when you are staying at your villa nearby. I also hope you might be able to experience Tea Trails which is quite different from Cape Weligama and Wild Coast - Tea Trails was Dilmah Tea’s first hospitality venture. Thanks again, sending you and Kristy my best wishes. warm wishes, Malik

Such a spectacular resort! We spent 4 days here in April and enjoyed every minute. The staff is amazing. Our butler Shehan was incredibly helpful - he gave me his contact on What's App, so I could get in touch with him at anytime for whatever I needed. They organized our required Covid PCR testing during our stay as well. We did sundowners on 2 evenings at the Lookout Blue. Nalin the bartender set up a small bar for us and made us craft cocktails and they brought canapés to enjoy during the sunset. I also recommend the mixology class at Cape Club which was fun. They have a nice gym. Currently, you must have an appointment to use, but you do get the gym to yourself. The food was over the top. The breakfast (the croissants!) is fabulous. We didn't even want to eat lunch, but the menu was so great, we were compelled to. The dinner under the stars every evening is magical - try the Sri Lankan curries at least once. The chef is really talented. Afternoon tea is also worth doing. The moon pool overlooking the cliffs and the beach is where we hung out every afternoon. Stunning location. We had an Ocean view villa. Huge and very comfortable. They do laundry for you every day. Very clean and a gorgeous bathroom complete with steam shower. Really loved this place and would definitely go back.

Thank you so much for your wonderful feedback. Shehan and his colleagues love to go the extra mile to pamper our guests. So happy that you throughly enjoyed the food, we pride ourselves on the best croissants this side of Paris! We have recently had many travellers enjoying an extended vacation at Cape Weligama and never getting bored with the food, which the chefs love curating for you. Hope to see you again before long. Warm wishes Malik.

This is one of the best resorts I stayed. Infinity pool beach view was unforgettable. Very clean resort. Restaurant overview of the ocean priceless. On top of all these staff no words to explain. Crew Nadeen, Suranga, Dinesh, Dimuthu and Tharaga was very accommodating and food is 7 stars. Venura was assigned to me as contact person was very attentive to details to make sure my stay was comfortable. Very beautiful location unique style of a resort. Highly recommended.
