I arrived quite late and the owner, Raja, was very nice, informative, and helpful. I stayed in two-bed room with a bathroom inside and a creaking ceiling fan. It's basic and affordable. The bed was clean, the bathroom had cobwebs, but other than that, it was a fine stay. It's located nearby the bus station and the beach, so I...

Awesome guesthouse 1 minute away from the beach and located on a quiet little street away still close to centre but just far enough to avoid the crazy noise. Raja is extremely kind, welcoming and helpful!! we've only seen him smile, he is pleasant to talk to and he let me borrow his volleyball ;) His son is just as...

This guesthouse is not safe especially for women travellers. It is situated in a laneway off the main road. Coming back from dinner one night I was attacked and mugged by 2 men who were lying in wait literally right next to the guesthouse. The attack happened less than 10m from the front entrance. It is the only guesthouse in...

Hello! Thank you for your review. What happened to you was very unfortunate. And I'm very sorry.. I can't speak for Raja, but he was not that rude to be honest. You are clearly saying things out of frustration since he couldn't help you. But I agree that he didn't handled it the right way. As for me I can...

I booked to stay here only for one night and ended up staying all my holidays (2 weeks). I came to Weligama to surf and dive and Raja's was a great place to stay. He is such a great host and cooks wonderful dinners. I definitely recommend to stay here and will give him a couple of Michelin stars for...

I went to Weligama to be at Raja's Guest Home. I wanted to rest at a quiet place, where I could feel like family and meet others on vacation. I wanted to swim, snorkel, eat GREAT seafood - all at a reasonable price. And maybe not in that order. And I couldn't be more pleased. Raja was great - everything...

I stopped here, intending to stay just two or three nights and ended up staying for two weeks. A great quiet location, just off the busy main road. Raja is a great man, full of smiles and so very helpful and informative. He can arrange a whale watching trip (the cheapest we found) with whale watching results. He can make...

We stayed here for 1 week in January and loved it! Raja and his son were very nice and helpful, it really felt like coming home to someone instead of just being another visitor. The price was very good, the room comfortable and the food great! Raja took us to the local market so we could buy spices, his friend...

I stayed at Raja's Guest Home for 10 days during January 2016. The guest house is conviniently located in Welligama and the food is, indeed, amazing and not expensive. For the price you pay, it is okay overall. You get towels and sheets; every room has a private bathroom and a mosquito net. I stayed at a single room. But...

Landed at Raja's on our first night in Sri Lanka. Perfect place to get grounded. Raja is very knowledgeable, helpful and gracious with advice about the area and beyond. Raja's food is cooked fresh, with love. He creates a welcoming family like atmosphere and offers lovely Sri Lankan recipes served family style, providing a great way to meet other travelers...

From the moment we arrived at Raja's we really felt at home. Raja is always in a good mood and offers you the best food and coffee. He even showed us how to prepare one of his traditional dishes in the kitchen and turned out to be a great singer. We had so much fun while playing card games and...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
My name is Raja, I was born in Weligama and I have been working in tourism for 32 years. My Guest House was recommended by Lonely Planet, Rough Guide, Footprint and other guidebooks, but the Tsunami destroyed the buildings in 2004. I started to rebuild everything and opened again in 2010. I offer a laid-back atmosphere home for my guests. My place is ideal for budget travellers who are looking for cheap rooms in a friendly and quiet place close to the beach. Facilites: - free wifi - computer use - 24 hours electricity - free bicycle use - laundry service - restaurant We are happy to help you organizing tours (like whale/dolphin watching or a trip to the countryside) and provide you with all the necessary information about Weligama and Sri Lanka. ... more   less
