Third eye Weligama is a very romantic place for a couple to spend a night. Its a cottage with in house swimming pool and a scenic view of polathu ganga. Caretaker Lahiru is very friendly. food was tasty.

I have just returned from a splendid week long stay at Third Eye, and possible the best holiday I have ever enjoyed. What a place!. Myself, my wife, daughter and her partner had the sole use of the resort to ourselves. That accommodation was beautiful, like a perfect jungle retreat. Spacious rooms with very comfortable beds and aircomditioning. Fantastic evening grounds with wildlife; including monkeys, giant lizards, parakeets and pheasants and even domestic ducks. The food was amazing and so plentiful that we could never complete a meal. We had friends join us on 2 occasions for breakfast who were fed gratis and treated like honoured guest, even been transported back to their accommodation by the owner, again free of charge. Tuk Tuks were arranged for us at a moments notice and were great value and fun to use to get to the local beaches and town. Nothing was to much trouble for the staff and owner. Our thanks to all for a marvellous stay. The perfect place for a completely chilled stay.

When we got there, my partner and I were both excited. On first glance, Third Eye seems fantastic. The room was spacious, it was very quiet and beautiful. Nice wood floors, lovely bathroom, AC, fridge with reasonably priced food and drinks. The setting was serene and secluded and my partner and I thought we had just arrived to a wonderful boutique inn. However, 24 hours later, our opinion had changed. Actually, our opinions started changing 20 minutes in, when we were told we had been brought to the wrong room and had to change rooms (there's only two in the entire place). Pros: Sri Lanka is amazing and this is a beautiful, backcountry location with nature and wildlife. The host was kind as was his staff (although they did not speak English and couldn't help with many of our requests). We got to see a cool monkey and there are lovely ducks on the property. And as I mentioned, the rooms are large and unique. The personal pool, while lovely, is still water and appears not to be changed in between tenants (although I did not confirm this... which is Con). Cons: ants in the bed; squirrel in the room; isolated, nothing to do (the "River Cruise" offered on premises is on a flimsy raft (two floaties attached by sticks) and though we tried to book one, when we showed up a the agreed upon time, the staff had no idea what we were talking about so we cancelled; no coffee (or juice or water) with complimentary breakfast; host couldn't (or wouldn't) arrange for a taxi for us to get to Colombo, the major city near by, so he told us to call ourselves an UBER and then disappeared as we waited and driver after driver canelled due to remote location. Ultimately, I think Third Eye has lots of potential. The rooms really are great (minus the insects / wildlife) and the host is kind and well-meaning. But certain... amenities need to be fixed if he is going to charge 40000 SLR / ($80 USD) a night. The place we had stayed at for the previous two nights was in the same price range and was a MUCH better experience.
